Welcome to another National Geographic special. Tonight, truck fishing in Minnesota. In late winter and early spring, schools of pickup trucks swim upstream to spawn in Minnesota's crystal clear waters. Here we see local fishermen, who've hooked one such pickup truck after it has mated and laid its eggs.

Minnesota state law says a driver has 30 days to have the vehicle removed from the water. If a government agency has to get the vehicle out, it’s a misdemeanor.

Insurance companies consider a vehicle as "Salvage" if water has risen higher than the rocker panels (on a bevel vehicle). Since this truck was completely swimming with the fishes, it is salvage or junk. The title would say salvage and the truck would be parted out or scraped.

I have watched a few of these types of vehicle retrievals from falling through the ice, but I’ve always wondered what prevents the large boom or towing rig from plummeting through the very same ice, I understand it’s got an expanded footprint, but it has to support the weight of the rigging & machinery, as well as the weight of the water filled vehicle as it exits the water.
@guardrail2897

They wait until the ice is thick enough to support their weight. They will drill the ice every few days until it's at a safe thickness. Then cut the hole for the truck to come back through.

Brandon Freeman i think your should think before you speak as, many insurance company's will often not write off a car if its been in fresh water as for salt water its very corrosive and it rust most things like the wiring(even tinned or copper coated wire will corrode) as for the interior shit who the fuck cares so long as its looks good and smells good for the owner (as if it was not submerged in water) that how insurance company's go by/for i brought a car that had been submerged in fresh water it has a note on the registration saying that this car has been in fresh water and that it was been repaired and that it could still have water damage(car looks new as if it had not even seen the rain) think before you open your mouth mate or try not to have any beersies before you youtube lol

+Brandon Freeman You're wrong man buddy of mine works at a salvage company here in Canada but many trucks go under and they can be saved. Drain the tanks, oil, take the spark plugs out and turn it over a couple times clears the engine. Take the seats out and let it sit in a heated shop for about a month and its usually good. Ive personally seen it done.
