South Bank Parklands, located on the southern banks of the Brisbane River in Queensland's capital city of Brisbane, Australia, was the site of the 1988 World Expo. Today, it has been transformed into a large public park and is the southernmost part of the city center.
To the north, South Bank Parklands is bordered by the Brisbane River and is connected via two medium-sized bridges to Brisbane Square (where the Brisbane City Hall is located) and the Queensland University of Technology. The southern end neighbors the Queensland Conservatorium and the Queensland College of Art, both part of Griffith University.
South Bank Parklands features a combination of rainforests, waterways, lawns, plazas, water playgrounds, the Nepalese Peace Pagoda, restaurants, shops, fountains, and other attractions. It is Brisbane's most important cultural precinct, regularly hosting various large-scale cultural celebrations, performances, and exhibitions. Statistics show that South Bank Parklands attracts 11 million visitors annually.
