Loved F1 in this era , my brother was a Stu Smith fan . I hated him , was a Willie Harrison fan myself .

I must admit I loved Northampton as tarmac. Some fantastic old names there some of who's descendants are still around now.

Just look how skinny the tyres are here compared to a modern F1.

IMO 391 ruined a very attainable working class poor man's sport by throwing money at it, those who could afford followed.

Agreed. And don’t forget the races back then were rubbish. Most of the white/ yellow roofs pulled off onto the centre Green. Only a few well funded red tops could win races. The social scene around the sport however was superb back then. The best racing was early 2000’s. Wain jr, Lund, falding , etc all building thier own cars, which were fast and looked good. No one was spending obscene money and they didn’t stop the racing every 30 seconds

It's funny, in later years we used to say the same about 515 Junior Wainman as he always seemed to turn up with the latest big engines.
