Speaking of oil, the US didn't get any from Iraq at the time of this war. Other nations in the region, yes. However, Iraq claimed that Kuwait (where the US was getting some oil) was 'stealing' oil from Iraq. Iraq had been making claims that Kuwait was rightfully theirs and just used the oil as an excuse to invade. Bad decision on their part.

Kuwait had been backing Iraq in their war with Iran, and once it was over, they wanted their money back. Saddam figured that if he kicked down the door and took over the place, he wouldn't have to pay. His plan actually worked... UNTIL he decided to slow down oil production in order to raise prices, which is the one thing you just don't freaking do in modern times. Before that, the world didn't give a damn about Kuwait. Hell, most Western people probably didn't even know Kuwait existed.

As a retired United States Air Force B52 Crew Chief that took part in this. I can assure you that no B52 Bomber was lost during the first day or any other day of this war. None of our bombers were touched by their weapons nor are own. We had one aircraft take minor damage at an air. Field in England when the wing tip ran into a fence on taxi back from a mission. Other than that there was never any damage done to a B52. The war did eliminate the need for the crew position of tail gunners on the B52. Soon after the war all tail gun’s were removed and all tail gunners retrained to new jobs.

In the days prior, we'd been broadcasting over the radio and sending leaflets into Iraq telling them to keep their aircraft grounded. Funnily, we used the wrong Arabic word for grounded, (or it's an English idiom which they didn't understand) and many of them buried their planes in the sand.

I think I started watching your channel about a month after you originally posted this one, so I never saw it before today. But man, does it bring back memories. I was on one of the aircraft carriers during Desert Shield/Storm, extremely busy (as you can imagine) planning many of those airstrikes that were referenced in the video. I was working 19 hours per day, every day, at that time. We had SO MANY aircraft available for us to plan strikes for, it was crazy. So many countries had volunteered up their planes, that we (the U.S. and the coalition) ended up turning a lot of them away, just because there wasn't enough apron space at the airfields in Saudi Arabia to accommodate all of them. We (intel strike planners) had the luxury of being able to pick and choose whatever platform we wanted to use to destroy our designated targets. It really was incredible... to spend several hours planning strikes and distributing those plans to the squadrons (U.S. and ally alike), then to get imagery later that showed the results of the strikes and start working on any follow-up strikes needed to destroy the target, or just moving to new targets if those ones were destroyed effectively. Six weeks of long hours, but VERY rewarding, as it softened up the enemy for an overwhelmingly successful ground campaign (one for the record books), as I'm sure the ground war video shows. Proud to have been a part of it all, for sure. -- Keep up the good videos, man.

That F-15 and Iraqi plane dogfight was intense. I saw another video where the F-15 pilot explained what happened. They got into a turning contest to out turn one another and set up for a kill shot, and the F-15 pilot saw the ground coming up and pulled up last second, and the Iraqi pilot hit the ground. The F-15 pilot never fired a shot, no guns, no missiles just a tight turning match. When the F-15 pilot got back to base, they figured out he had done up a 10+ G turn, which is crazy.

It has mostly to do with Iraq invading another country to steal their oil. It has nothing to do with the US wanting or needing the oil. Iraq had no idea what was about to hit them. In this case the coalition forces' mission was to protect kuwait from iraqs illegitimate invasion

America, that is the United States and thirty-something other allied countries, including the UK, went to war against Iraq for invading a neighbor independent country Kuwait (because Iraq was in debt and Kuwait a much smaller country had oil). When Iraqi President Sadam Hussain was captured, he told American interrogators that he never thought the USA would actually invade, as he had the fifth largest military in the world at the time. The war was about oil but would never have happened if Iraq hadn’t invaded Kuwait. Other neighboring Arab oil producers bordering Iraq like Saudi Arabia thought if Sadam got away with invading Kuwait, they would be next. Iraq and Iran, another major oil producer had been at war with each other for eight years and was also anticipating an attack by Iraq.

It's not the same now, bro. Asymmetrical warfare is an impossibly difficult task and we haven't figured out how to do it effectively. We would neuter any traditional military of any one country or any coalition of countries within days by sheer force of might. Especially considering the fact that unless Mexico or Canada turned against us, it's virtually impossible (traditionally) to invade contiguous US soil. But the days of a military slugfest are over, and I think that the west has proven pretty definitively that we don't know what the hell we're doing unless we can square off against our opponents.

The thing is the USA gave Iraq money and weapons to fight Iran and the war debt was owed to us in America but they went into Kuwait 10 years after the war was over. Because OPEC and these other countries had lowered the cost of oil because of the way they were producing so much and the supply and demand a rock wasn't making enough money to pay us back so they just took their Army and went into Kuwait and took over there a little bitty country and their oil wells. Kuwait is a tiny little country but very very rich.. they did this August 1st or so of 1990 and they had plenty of time to get the heck out of there and they didn't and the Americans were deploying to Saudi Arabia from October through December.. most of the time the guys on the ground just played football and trained and hung out in tents. They were waiting for months and then they were always on guard as well just to make sure nobody snuck up on them but they weren't fighting and it was the board on that killed them and the heat. 😂😂 What does one American soldier did was absolutely freaking hilarious!!! He was on guard duty and the next day he wanted sleep and his friend asked him if he would take his guard duty because his friend was wanting to go to a party that they were having at camp. Well the guy really didn't want to but he just went ahead and did it over anyway so his comrade would pull his two days of duty next week. So this guy was on his second day of 24 hour duty and he freaking falls asleep inside the camp.. there was a cigarette he was smoking in there and the tent where he was on guard duty was right beside a shitload of fireworks.. Omg.. the guy falls asleep and the cigarette starts a little bit of a fire and it got near the fireworks and all of a sudden everything just started blowing up but they were fireworks..😂😂 scared the hell out of everybody and it was beautiful sight to be seen but it was very dangerous and it's a miracle he didn't die or kill anybody. Here they are out in the middle of the desert and just think if the enemy would have been anywhere nearby and saw all these flipping fireworks going off because they would have just been sitting ducks By the time the Americans started the are campaign January 1st or so of 1991 they had given a rock 5 months to get the hell out of there and they didn't. The Americans blew them to hell and they were running away from the American military and they were crossing the bridge and even though they were running away the Americans were still bombing the s*** out of them because it was a way of beating your ass and then saying "get the hell out of here and get the heck out of this little country!" Boom boom boom and bomb some more. "and stay out!" .

The coalition went in to protect the people of one country , Kuwait. It had been taken hostage by a more powerful country, Iraq. Iraq was warned repeatedly by the UN to return to their own country and leave Kuwait alone because Iraq had basically declared war on Kuwait and invaded the country harming innocent people. So first they were sanctioned to try to motivate them to get out of Kuwait AND leave Kuwait the heck alone. But Iraq refused to leave Kuwait. So after many many many times warning them to leave the little country of Kuwait, alone And Kuwait begging for the UN to help them we the US, the UK and 35 other countries went in to help Kuwait. The US didn’t run over there to grab oil that was misinformation spread by liberal leaning media in our country and in yours. We were not going in to take Kuwait’s oil we were trying to protect a small country. If it was about us taking oil we wouldn’t have been able to have 35 countries sending their own troops to help. It really is different to allow people to land planes etc.. in your country or allow use of your tanks etc. it’s another to send people into a possible war…. so the world had tried many ways to convince Iraq to leave Kuwait before But not just the military but innocent civilians Iraq was in the wrong, and we went to Help and tried repeatedly to not have to go in because we didn’t want to hurt civilians . We didn’t want there to be a fight …they had been sanctioned repeatedly, and for quite a long time …someone had to help the innocent people of Kuwait and we did. It cost the USA a lot of money and oil and we fixed a lot of the damage before we left.
