Having been from Northern California and growing up in Las Vegas since the 70s. This shooting was something never to have happened ever. Yes, we had crime but never this. Little did I know, a boy I went to middle school with back home in Santa Rosa was there. It hurt me. He was on my bus route home from Willowside. He was Kurt Von Tillow. He was just a cool guy growing up. Very laid back, athletic, just a very nice guy and a year ahead of me. It was an annual event he and his family went to. I hadn't thought of Kurt since the 70s. Kurt being Kurt dove over to protect his sister and niece, who made it with minor injuries. Kurt sacrificed his life, unselfishly to do what he would have done, protect those he loved. If anyone knew or met Kurt, they were the better for it. A very special guy remembered back home with his photo and athletic awards on the gym wall at El Molino High School in Forestville, California.

At around 9:50 he was using something much faster than what a bump stock can provide. He had actual illegal machine guns. The one in the time stamp I'm talking about sounds like a light machine gun like a SAW or M60. A bump stock can't do all that, especially not accurately. He apparently had a little bit of everything, some legal and some crazy illegal to own (unless you're crazy rich and pay off the government), but even then they're so hard to even find to purchase. This shooting was something different than the already horrible shooting we're used to.

As I understand it, Paddock was a retiree who did some gambling on the side with limited success. I don't care what the state of your depression is (apparently that may have been a factor), if you want to go out in a blaze of glory there are better ways than this. It's beyond shameful that we have so many of these events. Honestly, there are events I haven't attended because of a bad feeling. I was never like that before, but no event or place is safe. Concerts, churches, synagogues, groceries, movies, nightclubs, parades, hospitals, stores and schools. Politicians (not all) don't care about the lives lost, but maybe when it starts hurting the economy they will. Maybe, but I doubt it. I was picking up my niece from kindergarten & the school went into an active shooter drill. I'm a grown woman & it freaked me out, I can't imagine 5 & 6 year old children. I took my Dad for physical therapy a few months later....active shooter drill at the hospital. It's insane & certainly doesn't make anybody feel very "free".

I was scrolling through facebook on my phone, and saw a friend of mine was live streaming. I clicked on it to see what concert she was at. Then the screen went black, you could hear this loud popping noise, then people screaming. Then the screen was just flashing and I could hear her breathing really loud, so I assumed she was running. Then that whole thing repeated. Black screen, popping, screams. My flatmates wer in the room and asked what that was… kinda sucks that series of noises is so obvious to us Americans. I knew it was a shooting immediately. When my friends feed cut out, I started looking for news on a shooting, cause I didn’t know where she was. A few of the girls I worked with did go. Thankfully, none of them were hurt. Another model I met there actually lived in Vegas. Her and her boyfriend were in the area when the shooting started. They actually end up loading up the boyfriends truck with injuries people and took them to the hospital. It's sad that this is what our country has become. So many people battling depression, mental illness. Overworked and underpaid. Then we have things like the media and the government trying to divide us based on sex, religion, race.. People just snap. Of course, that's not an excuse.

@tomfox9083

The more likely explanation is that Las Vegas was an FBI sting operation that went pear shaped. The BATFE was never allowed to examine the evidence. The FBI showed the guns to the BATFE from across a hotel room. So, no one traced where the crime scene guns came from. Since the alleged perpetrator was dead, the FBI handed the guns to state authorities who, as required by state law, sold the guns. The guns were purchased by a “collector” who immediately had the guns shredded. The bump stock story was crafted by Big Gun Control. One thing that everyone is studiously ignoring. The rate of fire is inversely proportional to the weight of the weapon plus ammunition. An AR-15 plus a 100 round double should fire very slowly at first and increase as ammunition is used up. The rate fire recorded in cell phone videos that day was steady and sustained. I've present when M-16s were fired full auto and I've been present when bump stock AR-15s were fired. That did not sound like a bump stock being used at Las Vegas. It sounded like a machine gun. The more conspiracy minded might claim that the Las Vegas massacre was a false flag operation designed to stampede Congress into passing more gun control legislation. I have no knowledge regarding this but I have seen the FBI in operation. While the FBI has become politicized, I don't believe that they could intentionally shoot almost 500 people for political gain. Actually my experience with the FBI was that they were a bunch of vainglorius martinets eager to strut in front of TV cameras. When the cameras go away, so does the FBI. No, I suspect that Las Vegas was an amateurish FBI sting that went horribly wrong. The FBI covered up their ineptitude by blaming their own now deceased agent and using Big Gun Control to deflect pointed questions. I don't know this for a fact but enough of the details fit.

jenyanc: How was it swept under the rug? Not arguing. Just asking because in Los Angeles, it was talked about for a very long time. Also, as sad as it is, the killer's identity can't be scratched away without not talking about the story because the killer and victims are intertwined. Again, it's sad but it's a fact. You'll never hear about any crime without the killer(s) being mentioned. So, we must choose: Never discuss the horrible crime again, or Discuss it and understand the story must be told in full. Yes, we can refuse to show the killer's face/picture and never talk about Why the person did it, but unless we give random numbers to the killer(s), it'll happen. And all people have to do is a simple internet search and they'll know everything. So, it won't solve it. This video did a great job, I think. It was a great balance. So, I'm very much in favor of talking about what happened without showing his picture or talking about him. And not mentioning the victims after a certain amount of time so the families can heal. Again, I promise I'm not arguing. I'm just curious how this was swept under the rug?

That’s how we do it stateside. Making zero adjustments. It’s wild. I manage a department at a grocery store - I often hope some jackass doesn’t randomly kill me some day. Grocery store shootings aren’t as rare as you’d think.

He was probably reflecting and comparing his son to Charles Whitman, the UT Clock Tower Shooter. Whitman did have a brain tumor. A rush to judgement, more than likely. Not wanting to see his son as an evil monster, more than likely too.

I am sure that his father was referencing the University of Texas Clock Tower Shooting in 1966. It is generally considered one of the first "modern" mass shootings. That shooter did have a brain tumor and the general public at that time pretty much decided that was the "cause" of that mass shooting.

And there are so many US citizens who fight for the rights of people like this man to own as many high powered, military grade, automatic weapons as he wants. Disgusting. No checks and balances, some states have even done away with the need to have a license for concealment. They fight against database creation for gun ownership and don’t want background checks, etc. Then have the nerve to act surprised and upset. As an American, it is something I detest. Take your ‘Thoughts and Prayers’ and stick it. Put your vote in the right place. No civilian needs to own military grade, automatic weaponry. An 18 year old can stockpile weapons and ammo, but will get arrested for having a beer before they’re 21.

We don't get it here in the UK why its not made more differcult for guns yo get into the hands of mentally ill , criminals etc our checks here are very strict you have to go through so many hoops first police interviews , doctors are notified to see your history , home checks . Lives are more important than some right to own a gun .

Automatic weapons are banned in the US the only way you can get them is with a special dealer license or if you are ritch , the weapons he was using had an attachment that made them automatically that attachment has been banned

@@dner75-xh9leWhat an asinine comparison! Do people in the UK have automatic knives that nobody elsewhere has ever heard of before? Also, how much are you willing to pay in taxes towards this "fixing" of the mental health crisis in America? Or maybe they could use a few billion of the estimated $916 billion to $1.5 Trillion that your country alloted to it's military last year. Oh, but your taxes would still go up, because they'll want to top up the military's coffers asap. Please explain to me why you think that anyone, other than the police and the military, needs such a weapon in their possession.

1) This will happen again. The US laws on guns is so lax that it’s criminal. 2) This guy couldn’t shoot. He was not even mediocre, he was bad. 3) No “good guy with a gun” could’ve stopped this. Anyone who thinks I’m wrong can feel free to explain how or why. I have crocodile tears for everyone who sends thoughts and prayers, everyone who even says “good guy with a gun” (they’re never that guy). America is ok with innocent people dying, that’s what it is. Children, women, the elderly… it doesn’t matter.

@sam It’s insanely lax. I could literally buy a gun, all the ammo I want, and I’d just need to drive two hours. Everything would be legal and I actually know how to shoot and plan. Me, with no empathy, is a nightmare. I’m not Superman, Jason Bourne, or any of that fantasy nonsense, but this is a problem because I’m thousands. Someone is broken inside and someone will break outside. They will break on someone like you, or your family. Congrats, you’re the next family of thoughts and prayers.
