I know a lot of these statistics are true. They might not make a state appealing to me as a place I'd like to move to. But the statistics don't make me "hate" any of them. If you live in any state, and you hate it, MOVE! There are 49 more states you can choose from. Many people live in and love these 10 states. Hating a place based on statistics is wrong in so many ways. This way of thinking is divisive. We don't need that attitude in the US.

Another thing to consider is that these statistics cover an entire state. If you have a city with extremely high crime rates, it's going to jump you up in the stats. But 20 other towns might have hardly any crime at all. You might have a lot of poverty in rural areas, but also have booming cities with lots of opportunities. Stats are more complicated than most people think. For example, he talked a lot about Detroit when speaking about all of Michigan. Detroit has little to do with the UP, you know? It's like using London as an example for what all of England is like or using NYC as all of New York. It's silly.

I'm a New Jersian who now lives in California. The overwhelming amount of passive-aggressive people I encounter on a daily basis, not the extremely high cost of living, is genuinely the thing I hate most about living in California. New Jersians are straight to the point in the way we communicate, we don't beat around the bush. We tend to be brutally honest, which causes us to be rather thick skinned by the time we reach adulthood. We dish it out because we can take it. A lot of Americans, especially people west of the Mississippi, are just the opposite. They take a long time getting to the heart of what it is they truly want to get across, and, by then, they're usually looking at our backs walking away from them. "How rude," is the taunt that usually follows. We also tend to be pretty educated as well, so people can't just outright dismiss what we say. We use short and sweet logical arguments and keep it moving, we don't do long protracted arguments. This is what infuriates people the most, they get caught in a "hit and run." We're not about the give an idiot any of our time. I think It just boils down to the fact that we'll say what most people want to say but feel that you won't like them if they do. For some reason, New Jersians just don't care so much whether others, especially strangers, will like us or not! It really comes down to time. New Jersians just seem to possess an overly acute awareness of time. Anyone who shows me any glimpse that they're about to waste my time is immediately zapped from my awareness, and I keep it moving!

As someone who grew up in New Jersey, most people judge the State by flying into Newark Airport or the TV shows The Sopranos and Jersey Shore (only one person was from New Jersey, most were New Yorkers.) As soon as you drive 20 minutes away from New York City or Philadelphia, the State is beautiful, hence the Garden State moniker. I never knew anyone who got too close or moved their hands a lot while talking to you either. As someone who hates those things, I would definitely have noticed. I grew up across the street from protected woodlands where I could see the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers down the hill my house was on everyday on the way to school. Food was incredible. Alabama- 1. The education system does need help but the politicians are the ones at fault here. We had a 2B dollar surplus in that budget and they spent it on building a for profit water park. Yep. Aside from that, we do have to follow the national stuff just like every other state. But in the poorer regions they dont get enough money. Same as any other state. 2. Health care- we have some major medical places here. The hearing aid was invented at UAB. Tuscaloosa has a good trauma center. Again, though, the rural areas suffer. Just like every other state and why there are programs all over to knock down student loans if you work in a rural area for X amount of time. This happens in every single state. Rural areas dont get as much help because drs dont make as much money and so they leave for the big cities where they can pay off their extraordinary student loans. 3. Racial tensions- Ive lived in the south my whole life. Never had an issue with anyone based on race. Not saying it doesnt happen but people act like all the white ppl are walking around in sheets while the black ppl are putting fists up and yelling black power at the grocery store. Meanwhile, they think the Mexicans and Asians are sneaking through the night to hide from everyone. Its no more prevalent here than it is in most other places. Except maybe Utah where they have 3 black people in the whole state. 4. Giving up on life- NASA is here. Mercedes is here. UAB is here. The ocean is right along the coast. There are plenty of big colleges. Lots of stuff to do and see. I feel like people think Alabama is all woods and log cabins with old people sitting on the porch while a mangey dog wanders around an overgrown lawn. Its not. 5. Poverty- yes. The central area of the state and the central southeastern portions is poverty stricken. That comes from a lot of different factors. But there are things being done. And generally speaking, most large areas of farm land deals with poverty. And a lot of religious areas deal with poverty, regrdless of the region. While I dont agree with everything that happens in AL, its not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Its just an easy target to deflect commentary away from the problems(usually the same ones) that are thriving in their own communities. He left the stuttering in to make Floridians sound stupid even though he only repeated a perfectly legible sentence.

Politics matter to people. Or rather what happens to a state due to its political history and current political climate has a huge impact on quality of life. I'm a lifelong resident of Alabama, 67 yrs. I hate the politics of this state. Its poverty, extreme conservatism, and general backwardness is a direct material result of its political history and culture. For me Its not a big deal because of my relative wealth, educational level, and racial demographic. I have a darn good life here and enjoy the positives, like great natural beauty & resources ,mild climate, low cost of living, and generally friendly people... as long as you fit in. I know a lot of people hate on CA or Oregon, typically for political reasons, just like people hate on Texas or Georgia. Bottom line is all states have some amazing scenery, attractions, food and culture, and people. And every one has problems of one kind or another. I'm not a fan of Texas but I'm not jealous of it. My visits there have been okay. They weren't amazing but they weren't awful. My gripe with the state comes from the way the residents deal with anyone not absolutely loving it. If anyone brings legitimate criticism or reasons why they didn't enjoy Texas, it's met with hostility. "Oh that's because you're woke" or "You hate freedom" or "You're just wrong so don't come back". There's no alterative. I think it's great to have pride in your state and want to make it a better place but the extreme narcissism is off-putting. It's that type of attitude that makes me not want to go back. I'd rather visit West Virginia where the people are humble and more friendly. That type of behavior is more palatable. I'll just say, if you have to tell people you're better than them, you probably aren't. I get that that feeling about Texas.

I saw the original of this yesterday and I absolutely knew all the British "reactors" would grab onto it like crabs on the toe of a wader. I don't hate Illinois but I do feel sorry for the residents thereof in spite of the fact that I greatly enjoy visiting Chicago. But it's a fact both the city and the state of Illinois are very badly run. Something similar is true to a lesser degree about New York (visiting the city is even more fun and the state is not quite as badly run). It's never popular on the internet to say you hate Texas but I do, both because the residents thereof are so egotistical about it but because I could never live there due to climate, geography, a lot of (though not all) the politics (I have a libertarian bent and conservatives these days want to run people lives concerning things like abortion just as much as liberals do). I live in California which proves I can overlook the politics if the rest is really attractive and in California, it is for me. Not Texas.

I don't pay attention to politics so I can't speak on that but outside of that I have found Texas to be annoying. I don't even mind the obsessive pride they have with their state. The issue I have is the way they react to anything Texan being criticized. I've been there a couple of times and I'm personally not a huge fan of their BBQ style. I also found Whataburger to be very mediocre. The problem is when I'm honest about my experience, Texans say I'm the issue, I'm wrong, and that I should never come back because I'm "too woke" even though I have no interest in politics. It's like they can't come to terms with someone not emphatically loving their state to the same obsession they do. I would never describe my visits to Texas as bad but it wouldn't be my first choice to go back

The worst places in America are the big cities. It doesn't matter what the state is. In terms of states, you can look at which ones are increasing their population and which ones are seeing a decrease. For example, California and New York had a net loss of residents, and Texas and Florida gained. That is one measure of how good a state is to live in.

People are moving from California to Texas for one reason only: Money. If they are wealthy, it's to pay less taxes. If they aren't, it's to buy a McMansion they never could afford in California. I actually feel sorry for them. They are letting one factor dominate their lives and some of them regret it. California is so expensive for a reason: Because it's so attractive to so many people (if you don't get supply/demand go review economics 101). As for big cities being "worst", I couldn't live anywhere else. People who hate cities mostly don't and have never lived in one. They are so much more interesting, exciting, fun, and convenient than bland suburbs. The real country--where your neighbors are a few miles down the road--have attractions too but not as you get older and need more health care and more convenience.

@@lugi25 San Francisco has some of the cleanest air you'll find anywhere because the prevailing west wind blows all our pollution to the Central Valley But even LA is cleaner than it once was. CA smog is largely a thing of the past. I'm not sure what you mean by "trash". The homeless in cities do make something of a mess and I think those cities could focus more of their street cleaning on the areas where this is true. I've seen street cleaners operating in totally pristine areas of western SF while the trash accumulated in Tenderloin alleys. As for the homeless, I think that's a nearly unsolvable problem. Many of California's homeless come from other places because the climate is so benign and the state offers benefits, even to single men, that other places mostly don't. Also, the tolerance of drug use is high. Again, my reference point is San Francisco and it already offers housing to most of the people on the street but they decline it because illegal drug use and intoxication aren't allowed in city-provided housing. Until the Supreme Court decided just 2 months or so ago that western cities could prohibit camping on public streets and sidewalks, and now both the governor and city officials have promised a clean-up. But it's an election year. We'll see if whatever they plan lasts beyond the election (though a candidate for Mayor in SF who has promised to clean up the sidewalks may win).

I only ask because, along with Arizona and Nevada, I think those are the three states that will change the most over the next 10 years. Well, some of those states are having people leave, others are showing growth, and all on the hated list. Yep, the lefist run cities are migrating to TX, FL, and other parts of the south. Have no idea why Kentucky or Florida are even on the list, as you can move to the outskirts and avoid the dense urban center. NY is a ponzi scheme with their real estate and taxes, Cali.... we people focus too much on the giant cities and not the major portions of the state where the farm, ranch, etc. Illinois will be gobbled back up for pennies on the dollar soon, the corrupt politicians removed, and it will become great again I hope. Too bad the people that live there will be forced out due to rising costs of living, but that's what we allow corps to do to cities.
