I am a Nebraska Huskers Football Fan and we have had a couple really touching things happen at games. 1st one in recent memory was there was a kid 7 years old that was battling Brain Cancer and he liked a certain Husker player and it got back to that player and the boy and the player became friends. For the Spring Football game the team put together an Idea and okayed it with the Parents and the boys doctors. The Idea was to have this kid get into a Football uniform and he got to go out and be a running back in the spring game for one down. The starting QB handed him the ball and guided him where to run and the team opened a hole for him to run and the offense and defense ran with the kid 75 yds to a touch down and then swarmed him and picked him up. It was a GREAT moment. I know there is a video. I believe this kids dad ended up dying of cancer. The kids name is Jack Hoffman. Here is the Video kzitem.info/news/bejne/laB4uaVqa6WZa5g Then a few years later one of our kickers died in a car accident and this is what happened in the 1st game of the next season as this happened in the summer. Sam Foltz was his name and here is the video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1I-clqqPpIelrHY kzitem.info/news/bejne/0I-AnJOIqqeTbHY

2:46 Welcome to Minnesota. You can tell it's not that bad *because* it's snowing - when it gets really, bone-chillingly cold, the air can't hold enough water for serious snowfall. 6:29 The player pretended to faint as a distraction while the fake punt was going on. Didn't work. 7:35 There's an entire collection of "false start, everyone but the center" clips (in both college and the NFL). Funny thing is, in those cases, it's usually because the center forgot the snap count and didn't snap it when everyone else was expecting him to, so it's actually his fault anyway. 9:43 Some coaches tell offensive linemen to "freeze" if the defense jumps offside - if they false-start in reaction, the play is blown dead and it's a 5-yard penalty on the defense, but if they do not, it's still a penalty on the defense but the ball is live (making it essentially a free play, since the offense has the choice of taking the penalty yards instead if the play doesn't work out). I've never much liked it because it seems like a great way to get your QB killed. But it's especially bad when one of the OL thinks the defense jumped offside but they apparently didn't, as was probably the case here. 12:26 Offensive linemen can't move in a way that would simulate the start of the play (false start, 5-yard penalty) once they're set. So he couldn't try to shift to regain his balance, or it would be a false start. So he hoped he'd stay up long enough for the snap to happen first. Nope. 13:20 The clock sometimes runs between plays and sometimes stops, depending on how the play ended. An incomplete pass stops the clock, so teams trailing late and out of timeouts will sometimes spike the ball (throw it into the ground immediately after the snap) to try to save time. But it's an incomplete pass, so it counts as a down. Not a good idea to do that on 4th down, since it will mean you failed to gain the needed yards and thus turn the ball over. (Same thing at 14:20, but there the problem wasn't the down - they had just gotten a first down - but that they fumbled the snap and were down before they could spike it, so the clock kept running.) 16:17 Fumbled snap, and the QB panicked and decided to just take the safety (giving up 2 points and the ball) before anything worse happened. He might have been able to recover, roll out, and throw the ball away for an incomplete pass if he had tried, though.

12:20 I remember the pub I was in when I watched that. The offensive players are required to completely freeze prior to the snap of the ball. That situation where Dalvin Cook dropped the ball just short of the end zone could have resulted in a touchback. Had Cook fumbled the ball forward into the end zone, and the ball went out of bounds without being recovered, the defense would get the ball on their own 20 yard line. Those pylons count as being both in the end zone & out of bounds. Because the ball went out in the field of play (not in the end zone) it goes back to the last team in possession of the ball either at the spot of the fumble, or the spot it went out of bounds, whichever is worse for the team in possession of the ball (usually the offense).

@@kabirconsiders Glad I could help. Another rule on fumbles that you need to know. An offensive fumble in the last 2 minutes of either half, last 2 min of OT, or on 4th Down, cannot be advanced by the offense unless it's recovered by the same player that fumbled. If another player recovers it's a dead ball either at the spot of the fumble, or the spot of the recovery, whichever is worse for the offense.

Idk if you already knew this, but when you're watching a game or compilations like this take note of the small number next to the team name on the scoreboard graphics. The top tier of college football has a national top 25 ranking system, and obviously the higher the number the better the team. So if there's a team without a number, they aren't in the top 25. Gives you a bit of context when it comes to potential upsets.

Heat exhaustion can cause a player to freeze. The guy that stood up & fell backwards either knew the play wasn't coming his way & was playing around. Or he might have been trying to draw the attention of the defense. Fumbling the snap happens. Not often, but it does happen. South Carolina was snapping the ball & it got away from the quarterback. A live ball like that going out of bounds in the end zone is a touchback. Which is 2 points for the defensive team. I'm not sure why the quarterback seemed to assist the ball out of bounds. There are some strategies where you take a knee in the end zone to be able to punt the ball away. This didn't seem to be one of those times. The fat little girlfriends is probably a reference to his team needs to keep their heads in the game. Or . . . Maybe couch just doesn't like fat girls. LOL!!

13:22 in late game situations, its common for the QB to "spike the ball" as we call it, which is basically just intentionally throwing a forward pass straight into the ground, because an incomplete forward pass causes the clock to stop. It's pure nerves. NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MSL, NASCAR, etc. Those athletes are all paid by contract and sponsors up front. Collegiate sports are very much so for pride, building a profile for future prospecting teams and leagues, and for potentially getting sponsorships as well. But the if an professional athlete or team loses a game, they still get paid all the same due to the contracts they're signed onto. If a college team loses, national interest wains which takes publicity from the school as a whole away, local pride away, and ambitions of possible out of state students and scholarships populating the school populace. So when you know you're basically representing either half or all of your state in a game. "University of [Insert State name here]"s, "[Insert State name here] State University"s, "[Insert State name here] Technical University"s, and "[Insert cardinal direction here] [Insert State name here] University/University of [Insert cardinal direction here] [Insert State name here]"s are never found in the same city as each other. So when they play each other, there's usually already an in state rivalry going on between which households support which univeristies/colleges. But when it ends up being a university/college from 1 state vs a university/college from another state, depending on how die-hard of a rivalry there is in the fans, you either have support for the team from your state playing or support for the team playing against your state's team. Either way that's a lot of pressure for someone to "play correctly" while the eyes of the nation are on them, while they're representing their entire state, their peers, their predecessors, their friends, and their families all for little to no actual pay check and for all the glory that really is more superfluous in the entire scheme of life. It's easy to choke when you put it in that perspective. It's amazing they don't choke more when you think about it. That's just how disciplined and trained they are to begin with.

I played Center through college and we do practice the exchange with our QB hundreds of times a week if not thousands during training camp before the season. The snap goes on without any problems 99.99 percent of the time, but complacency after having done something so many times can set in pretty easily. It's a horrible feeling if you mess it up and thankfully I didn't experience it often and never in a critical moment like in this vid. When it goes wrong it's usually the timing being just a fraction of a second off, or when you're playing in heavy rain. That's why centers almost always have a towel tucked into their pants. Even excessive sweat on a hot day can be a problem so it's nice to keep you and your QB's hands dry.

A safety is when an offense gets stopped inside of the goal line that they are working out of. In other words, the goal line at their back. Meaning the offense had no where to retreat as in no more room and they were stopped inside of their own goal. That is worth 2 points for the defense that is added to the team total for the game. Exampla: score is tied 24 - 24. The defense pushes the offense into their own goal line and stops them there in. The defense now scores 2 points and the game lead is taken by their team 24 - 26. If the time expires, they win. Ice cream in a cold day, it keeps you warm. Try it. Then a shot of Schnopps. So dam warm. 😎👍

16:02 The QB loses the ball near the end zone. To prevent the other team from recovering the ball and scoring 6 points, he throws it out of play through the end zone, resulting in a 2-point safety for the opponents. The commentators take exception to the play, because they think the QB could have thrown the ball away for an incomplete pass instead.

If the ball goes through the end zone when you’re trying to score, it’s a touchback. The defending team then gets the ball at the 20. On the the other hand if the ball goes through your own end zone it’s a safety, the defense scores 2 points and you have to kick the ball off to them. If he didn’t knock the ball out the end zone the defense would have recovered the ball for a TD. That way you do give up the two points but then the other team has to earn the TD the normal way from regular kickoff distance.

False start is called when you move your feet from their planted position. So the OL was trying to keep his feet planted until the ball is snapped even though he was off balance. So they just end up tumbling over 😄. I never tumbled over, but certainly have been in that situation trying to hold on praying they snap the ball before I false start.

12:30 the reason these guys fall is because they're not supposed to move until the center snaps the ball to the QB. Sometimes they start tilting their weight back in anticipation of the play starting but then the snap doesn't happen so they find themselves off balance and they basically try stay as still as possible because it's a penalty if they move before the play starts and if they make any movement to regain their balance it counts as movement before the play, aka "false start" so really their only option is to fall back slowly and hope that the ball is snapped lol

The lineman that fell backwards was cheating his weight pre snap. SO his center of gravity went beyond the fulcrum point while he tried to stay still and not get the false start flag. It happens more than you think. Normally players will move their feet to catch themselves.

Just to add: once a lineman is set, they aren't allowed to move, so he couldn't simply reset.

Stuff like 12:15 happens for a number of reasons. Communication is vital for a play to work correctly, and when a crowd is loud or the other team is trying to trick you, it can cause false starts and bad timing and stuff because you’re trying to focus on your QB’s call but you either can’t hear it or you’re expecting it at the wrong time or something like that. In that guys case, he probably got mixed up with what the other team was doing and wanted to start the play, but he knew the play hadn’t started. Instead of trying to fix himself back, which would’ve been a false start anyway, he just decided to not move at all and fell back😂

6:15 I don't know if it's the case in this clip, but a lot of times players will fake injuries, in order to get a time out, if their team has already used all of their time outs, or wants to save them for a critical point in the game. They usually wait until they at least make contact with another player, but sometimes they just fall down if they think no one is looking.

14:25 There's actually a lot of college offenses that hardly, if ever run plays from "under center", so fumbling a snap like that when tasked with doing it isn't too surprising. There's some QB's that have legitimately never handled a snap from under center in college. These are called spread offenses and are pretty common in college. This is why there's also "pro-style" offenses which resemble more traditional formations that you see in the NFL.

If you watch an NFL bloopers video you will see that messing up the snap is not limited to college football. Tony Romo, former Dallas Cowboys QB, has 2 famous messed up snaps that resulted in his team not wining playoff games

16:02 - allowing the ball to go out of the back of the end zone behind him would result in a safety. Throwing it there would be a completely normal turn of events, however between the bad initial snap and his attempt at throwing the ball away inadvertently hitting the goalpost rather than just landing out of play is what makes this an amusing error. Also fun fact, that's the same quarterback who was tackled by the official during the play at 7:42 in your video. Stephen Garcia became just as famous for some absurd in-game mistakes and bad off-the-field behavior during his time as South Carolina's leading man as he was for seemingly improbable historic victories.

So the fumbled snap at the end of the game was from Kansas, I actually worked for their team for a couple years and one of my main jobs was to take snaps in practice for the offensive line when the quarterbacks weren’t available. It’s much harder to do than it appears and when trying to be fast if you don’t have perfect hand placement it’s very easy to drop the ball

The Nebraska lineman falling back stems from the nature of pass blocking. Rather than knocking the defenders down the field, when you pass block you are creating a pocket for the QB and want to maintain the ability to move laterally. So he had a standing blocking stance and had unfortunately unbalanced himself in a situation where he can't legally move his feet before the ball is snapped. I'm guessing he wrong anticipated the timing of the snap and shifted his weight to try to get an advantage in moving earlier than the defense but overdid it.
@EchoesofaDistantTime

When you play offensive line, your already top heavy. Your stance requires you to get really low. If you squat all the way down you realize you bring your heels off the ground to stabilize. In that low stance your on the edge of balance, and any small flinch backwards results in falling. They just don’t have good balance in their starting stances, and they are top heavy.
