Man, I felt so bad for this guy, because of how many times he just did not make it. Then I saw a video of him playing with Kenny G, and Kenny giving Julian his own brand of a saxophone as a present, and it just made me so happy that his dreams were finally fulfilled. He smiled so much more after that.

guys when u say that he doesn't need much skill, sure, he didn't need to play a lot of fast notes, but thats not important when playing the saxophone. I play the saxophone, and I've played it for 7 years and attended many different concerts, competitions, etc., and the most important thing is the feeling and emotion of the piece, and julian captured it perfectly. bravo julian

The comments here, 50% people who probably play saxophone pointing out the simplicity of the song he played and the other 50% calling the first 50% jealous and hateful. Though if a Saxophonist can weight in here (though I'm sure people will be patronizing about it) the song he played was simple, don't get me wrong he performed beautifully but is was not a complex or even long piece, I feel the only reason he got the crowd standing was because he played up the crowd with his final note, which any saxophonist would be able to see was just a long note, the only problem he would've had with it was breath control, which he did do perfectly his tone throughout the song was very nice and crisp. But unless he secretly struggled with the note all his life and this was the first time that it was just perfect, it was just a note. In short what he did right, good air control, and good tone the notes sounded very rich what he could've improved on, song choice to improve both the length and the complexity of what he's playing to really show his skill with his machine. I no doubt that he can probably play something higher leveled, but I feel he was playing it safe here.

So you're saying just because these people don't want to go to a talent show (which many people believe ruins people's artistic integrity and individuality) that means that they can't express their frustration when seeing someone play their instrument mediocrely and get tons of praise for that. If you go onto a similar video like this but for a singer or something I bet that half the people wouldn't be defending someone with an alright voice and calling them amazing. Yes, he went out and performed but it doesn't invalidate other's opinions just because they haven't done the same...

People nowadays are used to this electronic, autotuned shit, so I guess seeing someone who can actually play an instrument must be amazing? The piece was not that difficult of a piece, there was no improv, no flashy tricks, nothing that made him stand it. A+ for tone I guess, go watch some Stevie Wonder play the harmonica and everything from Louis Armstrong, etc. for some talented playing.

Everyone is saying that this guy is not good but being good is not about how hard your song is, or how loud you can play. It's about knowing how to express the message of the song and giving the listeners a good experience. What he played from a pure musicians perspective, VERY simple, the note sheet for his part would only contain very few notes.. Very long single notes... he had decent embrasure, his notes came out clean, this is the bare minimum to be expected from a musician... Normal people who have never played an instrument in their life are way too easily swayed by some playback background music and 1 guy blowing simple shit into an instrument... Look at the note sheets for some of Bach's or Beethoven's pieces for the piano.. where the bass have 3 different notes that are constantly modulating, and the upper hand is doing 5 notes in complex patterns, 10 notes is played at once quite often. Having to blow single notes in that slow pace on a Saxophone .. i ain't even impressed in the slightest.

ok fuck you, play the soprano then, bet you don't know how to. bet if I gave you one you wouldn't be able to play a f-concert scale or a b(flat)-concert scale
@Lasse3

Luke The Walrus nope i would'n be able to play an instrument like a flute trumpet or sax, since i never held one. I only played the piano guitar and bass :) but what i said was still completely true regarding Note sheets. very few notes played in a slow tempo. Are you really going to disagree with me on this one ?
@lukethewalrus7555
9 жыл бұрын
Hitashi son Well fuck now I can't disagree. You make a point, but for woodwinds it's harder to focus on those things when you have to worry about your fingers and breathing.
@Lasse3

Luke The Walrus that's why there is a word like Embrasure, for flutes, since you have to form your mouth in the perfect way, and blow air into the gap in a very fine precise way. But as a guy playing bach on a guitar, you have to very precisely with both hands pick notes, and hold chords' and again, the note sheet contains 1000% increase of notes since you play 5 notes at once on a guitar and modulations is both happening in the bass and upper at the same time.., on a piano you can end up playing 10 notes at once. i'm just not impressed with those single note instruments, that was my only point.

Such a great performance, passionate actually reminds me a bit of the absolutely beautiful sax of Greg Vail doing Europa you can see how he feels every note down to his guts. Not just playing notes but feelings. I think he will go far. Simon registered just boredom at first but finally saw great talent, like we need him to affirm the obvious. Go go Justin

So according to Simon, me and my peers all have HUGE TALENT. It was stunning? They were........ BLOWN AWAY? Oh my god. I'm a saxophone player, and even if I wasn't, BIG FUCKING DEAL MAN! I wanted simon to just be like... "Yeah. You played 6 notes with some vibrato. Good job. Get the fuck off my stage, this is called Britain's Got ---- oh wait hold on... TALENT."

Haha you made my day. Maybe some brass player needs to come on and play carnival of venice. I mean, as an all state tuba player, I have good enough tone quality to get that kind of reaction, and im just an okay high school freshman.

you know, in terms of saxophone, this isn't too spectacular. The average student going to school for saxophone performance could do this for a warm-up. There's no real technicality here. No improvisational skill, no complexity, just some nice intonation.

You know, even Kenny G has to do more than just this, and he's considered mediocre in the JAZZ community. I'm not saying what this guy is doing isn't any good, because obviously a lot of people like what he's doing, but it isn't anything that will make another musician go "Wow, that's just plain awesome". As a Saxophone player and as someone that knows people that go to school for music, I'm actually pretty confident with my statement

+Red Al Eartt (Drama Mean) guys when u say that he doesn't need much skill, sure, he didn't need to play a lot of fast notes, but thats not important when playing the saxophone. I play the saxophone, and I've played it for 7 years and attended many different concerts, competitions, etc., and the most important thing is the feeling and emotion of the piece, and julian captured it perfectly. bravo julian
