Yep, sadly, the 747 will soon be gone cos of ditching four engine jets within a few years.

You can put the divider screen up as soon as the safety demo is completed. The sign under the screen says it just has to be down for the safety demo itself.

Regards to seat selection charge ... Swiss also charges for advance seat selection in Business Class. No charge if you want to take a chance and wait until 24 hours prior to departure. For the price of Business Class, I think it’s unjustified but it’s a cash flow for airlines
@ShanghaiFlyer

SWISS does indeed charge for seats but only select ones. If I recall correctly BA charges for every single seats on the Upper Deck as well as all window/aisle seats on the lower deck (can’t remember if they also charge for center seats). I’m fine with reserving nice seats for elites but not releasing any seat at all in advance is quite outrageous.

Shanghai Flyer ... I totally agree with you. I usually fly Swiss First Class so not a problem. When I fly Swiss Business, I want the throne seat 4A so I swallow and pay the price because the chance of it being available 24 hours before departure is slim to none.

Why don’t people get that with a charge for seat selection it gives those that book later on a better chance of a decent seat. It also gives those that aren’t bothered about a specific seat a saving on their ticket price of the amount it costs to pre choose!!! Id say bravo BA!

Great video! Thanks for sharing your trip. I love the 747! So sad to see them slowing going away. Looks like BA is try to improve their soft product. I agree that the seat selection charges on BA are ridiculous. Glad your flight was good overall. I'm looking forward to your next video. Happy New Year!

BAs seat policy is to discourage people paying for seats keeping the good seats available for their status passengers eVen if they book late which are available to them free of charge.

No, I think you'll find that the seat selection price is set to maximise revenue. There will be a certain number of passengers without status that will pay to reserve a seat. What they are prepared to pay sets the price and BA will happily take it. Passengers (with status or without) who book late will generally accept what's left. If I was OWE or even BA GGLFL, then I couldn't expect to book a next day flight and grab 64K (not that it's possible since the demise of the BA 747).
@realman6ft6

It’s fairly well documented that he high price is to discourage non status passengers from booking a popular seat and if they REALLY do want a particular seat they will pay for it with some more popular seats attracting a premium. If it was just revenue generation he seats wouldn’t have different prices attached to them. Back in the day a status passengers could book or swap onto a flight last minute and get a key seat on the upper deck on he 747. Further evidence of his is based on he fact that some seats are only open to One World Emerald and not even one world Sapphire could select them or pay for them. If the seat selection fee was to generate revenue then all seats would be available to purchase despite key seats being kept for highest tier passengers. Contrary to what you believe seat choice is very emotive and if status passengers book late and find the ‘best’ seat in the cabin is taken by someone spending a bit at Sainsburys and poking with nectar points and hey are stuck by the galley or toilets they wouldn’t be best pleased.
@realman6ft6

You’ve also got ‘theoretical’ seating which blocks a seat next to a status passenger as long as possible depending on their CIV. Again if Revenue. Generation was key hey wouldn’t offer this silent perk but would ‘sell’ the seat next to their valued status passenger.to anybody for ext4a ££££.
@peterhastings703

@Lon _donJohn69 I've often benefited by an adjacent blocked seat because of the theoretical seating algorithm but, if a flight was full, then it wouldn't happen. A non status passenger could sit next to me if there were no other seats available. And you said: "It’s fairly well documented that he high price is to discourage non status passengers from booking a popular seat and if they REALLY do want a particular seat they will pay for it with some more popular seats attracting a premium. If it was just revenue generation he seats wouldn’t have different prices attached to them" Isn't this exactly revenue maximisation? To discourage the passengers who want to book a popular seat, but won't pay for it?

As much as I love the Queen of the skies, I am assuming you uploaded this video yesterday when you flew. I would think that BA would be fading the Queen out (sad as that may be) and replace with new Airbus a350 or B787

@@user-hi4kz4jd2c The A350 is the only aircraft with the new Business cabin at the moment, they will retro fit to the 777 fleet when they get their big service. The 787's were all bought with the old and as relatively new planes that cabin will be around for some time.
