@@malthus101I only hike the Peak District, that’s NOTHING on this. All I can say is, your legs burn, your mouth gets dry and you breathe heavy. Sounds easy but after five minutes walking up an incline, 50% of men will need a rest. Imagine doing it for a couple of hours.

@@simonpggardiner4844depends on the topic. They probably make the best infantry in the world. They slightly edge out the Americans. The Brits don’t necessarily have better infantry skills, but their infantryman know how to do more non combat tasks due than the Americans because the US Army is so specialized. They have a slightly wider range of skills. So first place goes to the Brits, then the Americans, the Germans used to be up here but the Bundswehr is such a shitshow right now. The French are great as well but have horrible officers. The Canadians and Aussies also deserve a shout.

I'm an ex sapper and it's known the world over that British Army training is among or probably the best on this planet! My instructors were awesome, even now after being out 26 years I can still remember it and be deployed instantly! Hopefully the Falklands again as I just missed the first conflict, well training exercise more like to be bluntly honest! Come on Argentina what are you thinking? Its like putting Mr Bean in the ring with Tyson fury! No other country would dare step in either coz our friends from across the pond will have our back! Ain't that right my US bro's! Not in glencourse in the early 90s the training team had their Bergen's weighed same time as the platoon and it was weighed at the end of the run to make sure it was the regulated 45lb after you had your water

Not vicious at all, just professional and obviously respected. I had PE teachers at my school in England in the 1980s that were vicious, pin us against the wall, press ups in icy puddles, humiliate some poor kids in front of everyone. It probably made me tougher but also made me lack respect for authority. The Army PTI here is the opposite

I actually had 2 British sergeants on my QL2 course staff way way back when I first joined the Canadian Forces in the reserve at 16 years old... Hilarious. Terrifying. Absolutely savage. And by far some of the best leaders I came across during my 11 year stint as a proud crayon eating infantard 🇬🇧 🇨🇦

Reminds me of our DI in Slovenia back in 2015. Clear and simple and allways for a giggle and shit. He was shorter than me im around 5.9 and I couldnt keep with his looong step 😂. I literally had to jog beside him when we werent marching.

WARNING! During training during WWII, my father who was in 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, convinced his platoon to return across the finish line of a run up The Hill at Shilo in a line so that "no one wil lbe last" sparing that poor unfortunate trooper another run up The Hill. Yeah, right! You may have guessed that the Sergeant sent the entire platoon up The Hill for their insolence. Don't try to out think your sergeant! 😊

He probably is a Corporal posted into the training regiment to do the physical training for the recruits. Usually after two years he will be posted back to his unit to continue with his trade, but the good ones move back to the Gym in the unit to carry out Regiment physical training for everyone. The rare ones then attempt the Army Physical Training Corps, after completion they get promoted to Sergeant, then can post to any Army unit to organise and run physical training for the unit.

Grew up in northern Germany. In our little town we had up to 40.000 British troops. We saw them train all the time. Nothing but deep respect for these extremely tough folks. Plus, they were so friendly and polite especially with us children or when they could give a helping hand to anyone.

Allowing them to take off their kit gave them a little motivation. It's a small thing, but it meant the world to them. Most people who have never done anything like this would never understand.
