I've known Karl on and off for several years and I can honestly say he's one of the most genuine people I've ever met. He's had so many exciting experiences but never brags about anything, he just tells you the story how it really is. I thought jumping off the Pattaya Tower from the 52nd floor on a zip wire with him back in 1997 was exciting but Karl has gone way beyond that. His KZitem videos are captivating as well as informative and so very much more interesting than so many KZitemrs who constantly walk up and down the same streets in Bangkok. I really enjoyed this interview, thank you Pete and Karl.

Khao Yai trail number 5 is the one he got lost with me. Deep in the rain season leaches jumping all over us and he's like 'you know what I'm lost' the next thing we're trying to get through a swamp heavily sinking in the mud. Amazing interview. Really took me down memory lane when Carl mentioned Freddy"s guest house where I often stayed. I remember Mrs.Freddy like it was yesterday. I have been coming to Thailand over 40 years now. Also Carl I am sure remembers the Boston Inn ( no longer exists). It was the first hotel I ever stayed in Thailand. It was build by US (along with the Malaysia hotel) for American servicemen on R&,R during the Vietnam war. After the war these hotel were apparently sold to Thais. I have stayed in both these hotels 40 years ago. I also stayed at the Privacy hotel near Freddy's. Another hotel across the street from the Malaysia hotel was and still is the L.A. motel a short time hotels for Thais. The owners are my close friends for 40 years. They rented a few rooms to foreigners but stopped renting to them many years ago as the police were constantly called for disturbing the peace. The neighborhood I am sure Carl knows was infested with drugs and raids by immigration police. A low budget backpack area, colorful to say the least

I'd get along with this guy. I've solo hiked in all the big mountain chains in the world, dived all the best dive sights including the big 3 Galapagos, Cocos and Socorro. I've also done a couple of solo canoe trips in the Ecuadorian Amazon and Brazilian Pantanal. I camped 3 nights wild in the Pantanal and had a similar experience seeing a Jaguar. I was alone in it's presence for a good 10 minutes too. Also skied in Europe and Japan

It's really funny how people thought about their race and be racist. I'm Thai and I really felt shame and idiot about their family at the same time. Lol And it's so sad that there are a lot of people still racist to another race, I always heard the similar story from my Thai friend in the usa, he told me there are always people shout at him to go back to his own country. And sometimes people split at him. He told me it's really normal there if someone split to asian people and tell them to go back to their country, and they punch even a girl or old lady, you couldn't really walk alone there if you want no risk . So sad and really shame for racist people.

@@karlsthailand it’s well worth a visit, just for the food alone. It’s just living there for so long that gets to people. There’s a reason I’ve been in thailand almost twice as long :)

Like your channel ,Pete, have no real interest in actually going to Thailand as I'm a very Eurocentric and Western orientated person .But that doesn't mean I don't want to know something about the East. Like your videos, you're a good listener.Good luck to you ,you're on a good path it looks like.
