Reel 5. c 1924
Industries of British Guiana. Coconut palms. A young boy climbs up the trunk of a tree. He climbs up just using his hands and feet (no ropes or ladders). Once he is at the top he knocks down coconuts. The coconuts are then collected from the ground and put into sacks. Husks are taken off the coconuts. C/U of the coconut being bashed down upon a sharp instrument. They are loaded onto a cart pulled by oxen. Some of the coconuts are shelled and broken up. We see seated women breaking up the coconuts. View from the front of the train as it travels to Georgetown. The train arrives at Georgetown station. The town of Bartica - prospectors arrive and board boats to travel up the Mazaruni River to the diamond fields. Men "wash for diamonds" in the same way as for gold. C/Us of a man sifting for diamonds. A collection of diamonds is displayed for the camera. The word "Diamonds" is laid out in the precious stones.
