If you've ever had to put down a good dog, then you know the feelings you go through and how difficult it can be. The reality for us was that we needed a new member of the family and through mutual friends we were introduced to Josh and Whitney of River Stone Kennels. We reached out to several breeders and these two really stood apart on they way they run their business, how well they communicated and the passion they both share for these British Labs. It's going to be a lot of work, but we're excited to start the training process ourselves with the help of the Retriever Roadmap program. I've always loved upland hunting with my dad and had a lot of respect for passionate waterfowl hunters. Time will tell where we end up on the roadmap of training, but I know it's going to be blast along with way. Hopefully this leads to some waterfowl hunts with Josh, Strike and Brock later this fall....never seen dogs of this caliber in person before. So impressive! Happy Sunday ya'll.

We understand. We had to put down both of our dogs (one was a lab mix, and the other was a Duck Trolling Retriever..aka "trollers") within 1 month of each other. They both were old, and when we had to put the first one down, the second one deteriorated quickly. It was VERY sad. Like you....i tear up from time to time when I get to thinking about them and missing them....like right now. I teared up when you did towards the end of the video....knowing what ya been thru bud...been there and its VERY DIFFICULT. Fast forward...our similar story is that we picked up a chocolate lab pup 1 month ago, and hes about 10 weeks old now. We have had 2 labs in the past, and I hope to train this one better and more versatile so I can take him on some bird hunts possible, and shed hunt. I may be interested in this online training course.....interesting concept. We miss our Scout and Harley...>RIP. They were members of our family and we miss them both VERY much. We have had our ups and downs with our AKC chocolate Lab pup "gunner" so far, but I hope we can turn him into an obedient dog that listens well. Not sure if he will get thru all the advanced bird dog training or not....BUT i would like a dog that could at least hunt and retrieve some. Thinking seriously about using that hush code discount. Please continue to post videos on him. Training how tos, progress, etc.

Congrats B-Mack! He's a handsome guy. I'm glad you decided to get another, and hope you have a bunch of awesome adventures together! I just drove 1000 miles a couple weeks ago to pick up our 3rd GSP pup. We now have 2 females and a male.....nothing better than a good bird dog that is a family member!

Congrats on the new puppy! May he have a long life. I've had two male Yellow English Labs, Buddy Nr 1 and Buddy Nr 2. Each passed from health issues after age twelve. It took about two years after each passing before I could bring myself to look for another one. Buddy Nr 3 is a male Black American Lab. He is just past two years old now, and is the best Frisbee partner. Unfortunately, he has EIC, so Frisbee sessions are limited to 5 to 6 minutes 3 times a day. Nr 1 came from a trusted breeder. Nr 2 was a rescue. The wife saw someone toss him out of a truck down the road close to the house. The vet said he was about 6 months. Their loss, our gain. Buddy Nr 3 came from a local breeder who specializes in American Labs. Fair winds and following seas to all.

I had my dog tabby for 16 years. I lost her 10 years ago. I still can't bring myself to love a lab like I did her. She has wrecked all black labs for me lol. Someday I will find another dog. But it's not anytime soon

I am so sorry. I completely understand. Probably cried every single day for about 3-4 weeks. Especially being in a quiet house. It was terrible. But, I’m a lab guy and I missed having a companion. I’ll never forget Deuce or the adventures we had. He made us a family and we loved him so much. This little guy has helped the process of grieving for us. Take your time…you’ll know when you are ready.
