I believe she’s just using the purity theme as another way to “morally” post photos of her old content. It takes the attention away from her seeming to be another woman who uses sex to sell and it also makes people forget about her scam. Even if it’s just for few minutes. It’s a way to roll out and reuse what got her to the top without being overt.

Serious advice for people scammed in situations like Brittany Dawn's customers: try calling your credit card company to see if you can get a chargeback. My credit card company helped me get refunds for a book lost in the mail, Broadway show tickets cancelled due to covid with no refunds, and a pulse oximeter from a scam company that didn't actually exist. Just make sure to contact the bookstore owner/ticket seller/non-existent health company first. But if they won't budge, credit card companies can be a great resource.

I did this to be modest, to not show my legs, to not "tempt" DISGUSTING OLD PERVERTS. Well, those pink tights were a distraction. Sitting there in a church lesson and they actually called me out. Saying that my tights were too distracting and it would make men look at me. I felt so much shame and self hate and I felt just so horrible inside. I was 14. I was 14!! I had never even kissed a boy and I was trying so hard and instead of saying hey you gross ass old man looking at children you should stop, they told ME not to be a distraction. So backwards. @KR-ue1gd
3 жыл бұрын
Modesty is more about not flaunting yourself, not putting yourself forward or trying to make others feel bad/less-than. A lot of the New Testament verses about modesty (the ones many Christians use to concoct rules about skirt length) are actually admonishing people not to be argumentative in church meetings (putting selves forward) and not to wear super expensive stuff and show off their wealth, or not to rely on appearance as a source of value. People can be beauty or hot or sexy or whatever, just because they are, without being immodest. Even the idea of "hot" is in the observer's perspective, not the person's control. Immodest is if they flaunt or put those attributes forward as their source of value, or use those attributes to make other people feel bad. Brittany Dawn is just as immodest now as she was before, because her attitude is "look at me" regardless of what she wears.

I remember growing up in the church, we would be encouraged to dress up when going to church. It was like a pageant, for the women. I remember I used to get up to go to the toilet during the service, someone pulled me up and told me to stop going to the toilet, because it looked like I was parading myself down the aisle when I got out of my seat and walked to the foyer to go to the bathroom, because I 'looked too pretty' I would have been 14 at the time. We were also taught that our 'purity' was like a pie, and anytime we even kissed a boy we gave slice of ourselves away that we could never get back. I wore a purity ring, I made out with my boyfriend (I was 16) and broke down crying because I thought I betrayed 'God'. When one of the stones fell out of it I was convinced that it was God condemning me. The grip that the church has on its women is a chokehold. It's deadly.

Not surprising. I got pregnant in 1992, age 16, Darlington, SC. At that time, I was the only one pregnant in my high school. I made a stupid decision one day to have sex with a male friend. I was ashamed, I dropped out, got my GED, then graduated from Job Corps to provide for my son (his dad died when my baby was 5 months old). Had I understood contraceptives, I may have done it differently. Not that I regret my child. He's 29 and married now and I have no regrets. But I've taught all my kids how damn HARD teen parenthood is! And I also made it clear if they impregnate anyone, they'll be taking responsibility for that. Kids deserve to know how to be safe. Teens get curious and no child deserves to die for natural curiosity.

@akiluckyakilucky7524

@@godmakesallthingsnew2626 purity culture was literally invented in the 20th century. It is harmful. In no where in the bible did it say teach young folks nothing about safe sex, make them sign agreements they dont understand, shame young girls for not being modest enough, give kids punishment for refusing to adhere, adjust their outfits to "protect men and boys from temptation", make public spectacles of people who, according to them, dont practice the culture well enough, to ask details about minors' sex life, discredit contraception, teach kids that those who dont dress modestly dont love the lord and are walking on the path of the devil, etc, etc, etc. Purity culture exists, and it was never in the bible. It was literally invented for conservative fathers to "protect their daughters from sin" and aids in the famous victim blaming of SA victims because the outfits they wore were "tempting". People just use quotes from the bible to support it and say "see, the bible says so!" When in reality they added many of the details themselves. There is a difference between someone who made the concious, fully aware decision to wait until marriage by their own choice, and purity culture.

After being dm'd by 4-5 different women trying to recruit me, I did a deep dive into these programs, and realized it was an MLM scam, using Jesus as a marketing tool. I was infuriated!!! Omg! Girl, you are seriously such a talented filmmaker! So professional and thorough, I would literally pay to watch anything you make 🔥🔥🔥 Also, I’m in Texas and f purity culture! I thought the whole teaching abstinence thing was over (because ya know, science says it’s not effective) but no, my 16 year old son brought home a permission slip to attend an abstinence only sex ed assembly. Obvi, I didn’t let him attend. I’m also a nurse, and I can promise all the other parents out there that awkwardly fumbling through the facts with your kid is a million times more helpful than ignoring their sexuality and leaving it up to a traveling “pastor” with zero science knowledge.

Wow. I can't even imagine my child coming home with that permission slip. You are handling it amazingly!! We have to keep giving our children facts!

I know I’m late but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a full length piece on the “True Love Waits” and “purity movement” of the 90’s!!!! I was made to sign the TLW pledge at 13. Yes made. For real- peer pressure from my Baptist youth group. I wasn’t taught anything really about protection, self respect, any of that. I was taught to “Keep em closed for Christ!” It did so much more harm than good. I’m new to you but you’re amazing and insanely talented.

Only the Bible says you have to confess your sins . Meaning admit you messed up , so people can’t even use that as an excuse

16:30 purity culture disproportionately harms women in so many ways, but I have a question to men: are you okay that this guy with his silly beliefs portrays you as some mindless creatures without any self control? He basically says "everything guys want is sex", if I was a religious man I'd probably get offended that he takes away my agency like this. I'm glad he at least denounced his beliefs, though it's sad that there are so many other people that perpetuate these same ideas.

Actually he said “ you have no idea how difficult it is for a guy to look at a girl with purity in his heart when she is dressed immodestly “. I’m a Christian and I’m not offended-he was right.he’s not saying “every guy wants sex”, but men are generally sexually stimulated through what they see, so if a woman dresses immodestly (I.e. scantily clad) a man will generally be drawn to those areas revealed.He’s not taking away my agency (I don’t think agency can be taken away through what someone says), rather I think he’s telling the truth.

@@TomPlantagenet bible is also very clear that if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. Basically take yourself out of that situation if that's where your mind goes
