"Broadsword calling Danny boy" - probably the coolest movie quote ever. It encapsulates the triumph of the righteous hero, who resists everything evil puts his way. The idea of using the main enemy transmitter to contact your operation boss, is in part hilarious and part brings a tear to your face. I assume that everyone here know you can't shoot two machine guns at the same time :)

I have seen this movie at least a dozen times, it is one of my favorites. I just realized that they are calling to home base back in England for the plane to come pick them up. I don't know how long it takes a plane to fly from England to the Austrian Alps, but seems like it would have taken longer than the amount of time it takes here in the movie. From this point the action is fairly non stop: escaping from the castle, getting to the bus, driving to the airfield, only to get there just as the plane arrives. Was a plane of this type capable of flying from England to Austria and back without refueling? Who cares! It is a great movie. I especially like the double and triple cross in the story. It is interesting right through to the end.
@dash1141
6 жыл бұрын
Does it specifically fly from England? I agree with your point that there were few - Hell, any aircraft capable of making the journey you specified... Don't think it matters in the grand scheme; if we were the characters in the movie we wouldn't care if it came from England, Scotland, or Timbuktu!

Hi yes, but like just the weapons in film have a never ending supply of ammunition (no Magazine changes/reloads needed, especially for Clint), perhaps their captured Junkers JU52 Transport had a full-tank that never runs out, and time frame wise for the flight; in film they can use time compression...

Where Eagles Dare will forever be a classic. I always loved how nonchalantly and cheerfully Clint is hosing Germans with that MP40 like a 1940'S Harry Callahan offset by the urgent impatience of the broody and more serious Richard Burton. This film was one of the first films I remember for not portraying the German army as thick, bungling cannon-fodder but actually showing the flanking, suppression and hand-grenade stormtrooper tactics they pioneered from WW1 onwards.

Hugo Weaving- Lieutenant Schaefer. Ray Winstone- Colonel Turner. Heidi- Erika Christensen! OMG HOT! Mary- if we dye her hair blonde Rachel Weisz.I have the movie on DVD, VHS and am about to get the actual movie poster. I think I qualify as a fan.
