Yes from QLD and and now in WA. I was driving today and noticed on the road a small car park for 6 cars. I thought that's weird nothing around. As I approached I saw it was a memorial. And in fact it was Peter Brocks. They got a plaque with 6 cars on top. And a Rock behind again with a car on top and car beside. I'm glad with great respect no vandalism and their is a bin where people put their rubbish.

Shelby and Toyota screwed Pete Brock out of a deal to race Toyotas. If it wasn't for that, the legendary relationship between Datsun and Brock Racing Enterprises during the late 60s and early 70s never would have happened. Karma had the BRE Datsun 2000 Sports decimate Shelby's Toyota 2000GTs and continue on successfully with Brocks legendary 240Z and P510 Datsuns. Maybe it's more than coincidence those Datsun S30 chassis bear the subtle hint of Daytona Coupe.

I paid a grand to do it at 'Bathurst Goldfields' which is a place just off to the right as you come onto Conrod. I really couldn't believe it. I got the second last autograph on a MASSIVE poster I'd bought and carried around all day. Some prick got in behind me. It was about midnight and he was uncharacteristically KNACKERED. It'd been a looooong day for him though. Met him lots. Just an amazing man in so many arenas. Car racing was just one piece of his amazing jigsaw. Onya Brock. Gees I miss you.... Agreed. Watching the Great Man see-sawing at the wheel to 'wischen' the front to counteract the lightweight rear as it came out in the wet (more obvious from the outside footage than in the car) plus a typical narrow, bumpy Australian road that looked as smooth as glass, plus the distracting absolutely-pathetic gearleaver that he fumbled for on more than one occasion (made the UC Torana's golf club look sophisticated, lol) topped off with the sh*tty fibreglass body meant there was absolutely no room for error. I've driven muscle cars in the wet with the same weight distribution on hot-mix bitumen and you get no warning in a tight corner at the limit when she starts to let go at the rear - in this respect steel-belted radials were no better than cross-plies, except that cross-plies let you know earlier when you were really pushing it.

The car design has a fundamental flaw in its design. We see a warning that there's this bad design flaw right at the end of his last successful completion of a rally event. He looses the backend of the car at the end of that section of the race. A $1 hot wheels scaled down version of this car would have informed Peter that this model car has this design flaw in it. Peter lost his life cause he didn't do any scaled down adult testing of the car's design. A hot wheels car for the price of $1 will tell you, once you've lost the backend of that car, you're never going to recover it back into driving condition. Not only that, but the drivers seating location informs you the back of the car has lost traction many seconds later than other drivers seating positions do. By the time the driver realises the back wheels have lost traction, the car is unsaveable, the body design created with pencil and paper takes over and the backend of the car swings around 180 degrees. Sorry but the only car worth its price is the Ford GT40 2015 era. Too cheap to spend $1. Obviously didn't go to university where you're taught to do scaled down testing. It's not child's play, driving the full sized machine without doing scaled down testing IS child's play. I know the car is a piece of CRAP cause I've got the $1 version of the car. University is where you're taught to be an adult.

This car had a very well known problem for the rear wanting to come around when the car was Designed in the mid 1960s. There's a reason Shelby didn't build more than a handfull of them. The aero research was already again, well documented so he shouldn't have needed to do the scale down tests.

It's never going to be shown public. I wouldn't mind seing it myself just to get an idea of what happened. But can you imagine if it was shown to the public. I know the guy who designs and builds these cars. They are certainly no kit car and are indeed very well built chassis. The space frame chassis are fabricated by Michael Borland and are very nicely welded. They are strong. A quote from the owner of the car "They made a bigger mess of the car trying to get Peter out than what the crash had caused" The coroner also stated something like 'anybody who hits that part of their head even with a helmet at those G forces would have died'. Car B pillar impacted the tree and his head impacted the B pillar. The owner is such a nice guy and even restored the car completely as a tribute to Peter. I also believe Mick Hone purchased one of these cars, so that is testament to the quality of the car. Peter was more experienced and driving fast on circuits where there are no trees to hit. A boot full of power and a very confident driver in these conditions is dangerous.

Did his co-driver die too? Or did he get out for the next leg of the race?

I wonder who has the in car footage, after all it should be public record and its a official race and any investigation would see the in car footage to work out just what happened? I wonder if there was any moss or worse oil on that corner?

I know it's a bit wet, but that thing handled like a piece of shit. Maybe due to the tyre selection, okay. And Brocky's hands are all over the shop, sometimes too close together. Maybe this type of racing wasn't for Peter, especially with sleep deprivation.

PS. As the son of a father who raced hill-climbs (owned a beautiful Healey 3000, which I'm guessing you'd love, judging from your user name?!) for years & was a senior marshall at both Sandown & all of the Adelaide GP's, my Dad knew Brocky well for years, & I was fortunate enough to both know & idolise the guy from a very young age...honestly, although it's all too obvious that the moron is nothing but a sad troll, it feels like he's joking about the death of an uncle or close family friend...
