My interpretation of this video would be about the different social status in the world; The brokens live in suffering due to their kindness, because the "smiley"s are taking advantage of it in order to reach this state bliss they seem to be in. However, since selfishness is what brought them to this point, the smileys aren't hesitant in bringing down those weaker than them, even those of their own. As they say: "The bigger they are, the harder they fall" The other way I'd interpret the ending is it's showing how the rich and selfish will never be remembered in a good light. In any case, this is some very good wordless writing. It reminds me of the dilemma where you choose to either live in an immortal world of constant agony where every day, one random person gets to forever leave for a world of bliss, or live in an immortal world of constant bliss where every day, one person is sent into eternal suffering.

A strange detail is how the corrupted feel… robotic. From the lifeless grins, to the mechanical ticking when said grins contort, it just makes the unbroken seem soulless. Also, I noticed that one unbroken being held together by tape, presumably avoiding the gluttony of their peers.

@@PatrickSmithAnimation I noticed it. I thought it meant that unbroken had been broken before. but it also makes since that they are simply trying to not break. So what do they need to eat to stay unbroken? or perhaps them needing to eat is like a metaphor for them trying to stay full? like even though they are unbroken they are actualy hollow in their hearts? iN SOMEWAYS YOU COULD ARGUE they actualy are Broken because they behave broken while the others merely look broken. In truth maye they are just a differant kind of broken. Because they look insane, they look more like they could go crazy and break at any moment. No one with such deluted smiles could ever truely not be broken somewhere. But being corrupt, isn't that a form of broken in it's own right?

"No good deed goes unpunished." Is how it feels at times. Some people give and help out of the goodness of their hearts, but they must be wary of those who take advantage of their kindness. The state of their souls also are symbolic: The one that died broken and miserable, but was kind, had a clean, unbroken looking spirit, but the selfish one that was whole again, had a dirty, patchwork looking spirit that was then devoured by the other "happy" looking ones. There is no escape when you cross "the line" to be happy by betraying others.

Why are so many in the comment section hating on disabled/crazy people?? Do these people think everyone with a mental disability is evil? This has been used by authoritarean governents to great effect before as a tool to silence those who have other opinions. So you are terribly wrong in your assumptions. We have no right to categorize other people based on what another person thinks. There are state laws that differentiate whether someone is acting against the state or not. One thing I really love about Patrick's work is that there's never really a "right" interpretation. He just makes these weird little artist animations that make you stop and think, and maybe consider things about yourself and others that you hadn't acknowledged before. With regards to this one, I personally see this as a warning about shallowness and conformity. It's better to stay true to your own identity, even if you are what others consider to be a "broken" or "failed" individual, rather than turn into a twisted parody of yourself trying to fit in with what's "accepted". Because in the end, all those who blindly conform develop the same self-centered mindset, and will not hesitate to tear your right back down again for their own gratification.

The physiology of the glass people(because i'm bored): The glass people are bipedal humanoids with a body completely made out of glass, which their blood is visibly seen inside of. Because their bodys are made of glass, this makes them very fragile. A simple trip or fall could kill them. Oddly enough, those with a complete structure seem to be under some kind of trance with their eyes rapidly flashing color and constantly in a smiling state. As if in a state of transcendence. Those whose bodies are fractured seem to be more mentally stable, but they are doomed to eventually shatter away... However, its not too late for them to save themselves from certain death at the cost of state of mind. As in a odd bit of biological discovery: they easily cab repair themselves by re-attaching glass shards to their missing areas, which their bodies absorb and reform as their own. Some may fix themselves by either scavenging for glass parts from those recently departed, or in the case of a desperate few: they will smash others of their own to achieve their goal of fixing themselves. At the end of their lives, when one is too fractured to continue. Their soul leaves their body permanently forever flying on the horizon.

I've just binge-watched the entire Pour series and I absolutely adore it. It perfectly encapsulates the views of Humanity. Religion, sexuality, politics. You're allowed to be one thing or another. You're allowed to have one view or another. You beat down those you fight with to be accepted by everybody else, and you force those weaker than you to suffer more. Lots are indoctrinated into a single way of life, and those who don't fit that mould are ostracised and ridiculed by everybody else. I'm gay and autistic; never fit in to that perfect mould that schools teach you to be and was alienated by everyone. These animations have resonated with me on a personal level because of this. The story reminded me of how some people were helped by their communities but forgot where they came from, like how many successful people not only take advantage of their former partners. And many celebrities are like this, politicians, writers, artists, even scientists and inventors are guilty of taking advantage of others. The ingrates kept taking advantage of others in order to reach the high Society they all so desired, but eventually their sins weigh them down. And when they finally fall the the life they deemed better chewed up their soul, consumed their very essences like a piece of gum. This is not unlike how many great rappers, comedians, actors getting chewed by their respective industries and became deranged drug huffing maniacs, or how famous people like Elon Musk and Neil deGrasse Tyson allowed their celebrity status to get way over the head revealing some serious issues behind the façade, ultimately ruining the very image they are trying to cultivate. They forgot their roots and allow the monsters they worship to destroy them. Also I am pretty certain that the one dude covered in tape is someone on the verge of breaking, like how some people is slowly losing their wealth and status but still desperately trying to keep up the appearances with whatever means that are still available for them.

Silently smiling. At your house. And no one is around. Just you. And them. And someone you trust like a pet, friend, family member, whoever it is, is the only one with you. And you can't do anything about it. Because if you step out your house, some will slowly walk to you and try to eat you (like how some of the Happy Smiles ate the darkish grey/gray ghost aka the ghost of Saddened Upside-down Smile) and the said someone you trust is either getting eaten also or just watching you die fearfully. Worse if it's night. Imagine seeing glowing eyes at night. And they have colors. Ok why did I make such simple characters become so creepy.

the way i see this... the unbroken/intact are preceived as those that seem perfect on the outside, but is filled with evil on the inside with little to no room for a soul to live, maknig the body soulless, further recongized when the unbroken are robotic in movement, and have nothing to express, other than a grin and crazy eyes. and the broken are preceived as ones that are less than others on the outside, but is empty of evil, with space to allow something beautiful to live, the soul. a broken saw that he could have pieces put together, helped by one of his own, he took advantage of this, taking a piece to fill in the broke hole, take what his friend had, and become intact with the last piece. but the spirit of his friend came back, and made sure his friend did not get away scot free, but sadly he was gobbled up by the unbroken, preceived as him being gobbled up and killed by real evil.

@@PatrickSmithAnimation Eh, fair point...I'm just going to headcanon this is a much, MUCH later period of time where the wine glass guys evolved to be more human-ish after looking like Cuphead's reject family members amirite? Basically leaving the Cup Dude legacy on Blue...which is nice. Wonder how the story's are gonna play out with the main "pouring" and "cup" gimmicks removed though.
