I live on a river and have limping goose coming by and getting fed some corn and wildlife bird mix but the other geese are attacking it. The Vet rehabber l contacted said that volunteers are just not that concerned about geese bc we have an abundance of them in our area

I made the mistake of taking the goose with a broken leg to the International Bird Rescue in San Francisco :( I thought - it is just a broken leg, they will help her. They put her down and didn't want to pick up the phones when I called back (6 times) to get updates. They picked up immediately when my friend called and said "it was an old fracture and that she wouldn't survive back in the wild". I am furious and heart-broken. They didn't even try. She was full of life.

@@cxsmiicbear7197call a rehabber. Just type “injured wildlife (state name)” and they will help you find volunteers to help rehab the animal

I so sad to hear that. I noticed they often get defensive and act like people who help are Karens or something, like we should be minding our own business, but staying focused on the mission is important. I’m so sorry to hear about your feathered friend.

Daija Williams yeah, very unfortunate. the family i feed has only 2 now, the momma goose disappeared one day, and one of the goslings got a broken wing and we brought it to a bird rehab center but it was not fixable.

If you have any wildlife organizations in your region who specialize in animal rescue, I would bring it to their attention first. If it's a situation where you're definitely going to need to deal with it yourself, then you'll basically have to catch the goose, find the break, set and splint the bone as best you can and be prepared to host a healing goose for a month or more

Are you leaving the goose in your backyard, no cage? It can fly. How come are you doing that, man?

I volunteer at a wildlife conservancy. I rescue & release wildlife. Last night I went to bring in an osprey with a broken leg. He is young but large. Had just started flying. Anyway, the conservancy put him down. I’m very upset right now. He was very alert & im sure he could have been trained to fly to me for daily fish...do you have any advice for me so this doesn’t happen again? Thank you

I would learn the protocols for which animals they will put down, under which circumstances... and then do not give them those animals under those circumstances, if you feel they can survive it and lead happy lives (whether re-wilded, in zoos, or semi-domesticated). Every state (down south) and province (up here) has different rules around this. And each also has an underground network of life-loving people who will find routes to survival and rehabilitation for those animals that will not be adequately attended in the system

Ryan Heavy Head TY so much Ryan for your intelligent advice. You are right. And I will find that network of loving people & care for some of these creatures myself. Oh how I wish that osprey was in your care right now. Ty for quick response as well~ I will be doing my research. God bless you for all that you do & again thank you for the advice🙏🏼 I’M ON IT!!!!

@@betsymonroe4530 Here is just one like that, in one leg, just seatting and eating by himself. I tried to catch him but still can fly. I spoke with one lady from the wildlife animal rescue, and she told if I catch him, to take to the clinic where they see wildlife cases, and they will evaluate if is worth rehab or put him down, and now I'm debating my self if is better to leave him alone, and continue his life with whatever time he has left, or catch him up ant take it to the wildlife hospital. I really don't know what to do, I know it will make me feel miserable if I take it and they put him down.
