What’s your quote in this video, “you know you are using your equipment when you break it. That’s just part of it.” Looks like you got your adventure! I’d rather get to where I am going without breaking things, though - more enjoyable and to unplug and enjoy the scenery, peace and quiet.

Glad you were able to make it back to civilization with the help of friends. Many ways that could have turned out disastrous, very inconvenient, but no body got hurt, I would be quite thankful. With as much off roading as there is in Arizona you should be able to get the appropriately sized and constructed leaf springs there. Again great photography. Looking forward to your solutions.

Yep, same thing happened to me back in 1972 just north of Jemez Springs, New Mexico. I was driving my 1947 Ford panel truck and one leaf came apart and fell out, then my rear end nearly fell out, not a pretty sight. After Sharing a bag of weed with an old man we were able to put it all back together, but that flathead V-8 was never meant to go 1000’s of miles off road. So we parted ways and I got a one year old ford van where for the next 5 years I was constantly working on it.

with all that weight in that truck, get yourself a set of Deaver leaf springs set up for your total load, you'll thank yourself for spending the $$$ - coming from a fellow Raptor owner. It'll also get rid of the rear end squat and get your handling back to better than it ever has been. Thx for all the great vids!

Just get some Deaver HD +4 springs. Or have them build them out a little more HD for the extra weight. Custom springs was always going to be risky.

Not sure if this may help ya...but my 2010 raptor...crappy rear fox shock blew out at 24,000 miles....i went to buy another one...and got sticker shok.....so i bought a set of rancho 9000 shocks....for a reg f150....fit right in....and it took away the 3 or 4 bounces i would get after hitting a substantial bump....aka topes here in mexico . good luck

Oh, interesting. I haven't had issues with the shocks-- YET-- but, I'm sure eventually the way I drive this beast. I'm thinking I'll have to deal with front suspension/control arms, etc before to long as well.

Wonder if an add a leaf would have helped prevent this....less flexing...a bit stiffer

That was an add a leaf. It needs to be a “leaf pack” designed to flex under off road extremes. More on that, next week :)

The key is to weigh your truck fully loaded- fuel, water, gear. The Raptor is a 1/2 ton truck. The back of mine is 4000lbs- literally 2 tons. :)

This video is so cringe for the Raptor. Shafer isn’t even technical. People tend to brag about taking their Porsches and minivans (and other stupid vehicles) up and down that part of White Rim. I would have expected to see something break further along the trail… as far as people telling you to beef up your suspension that is totally absurd. That truck with one dude and a fairly light load of gear should not need any enhancement unless it is worn out and maybe your suspension components were worn out or aged.
@SocialPants
Жыл бұрын
The leaf springs were broken for days actually. The noise got worse and the piece "fell out" on the White Rim. So, not really the trail that caused the issue. The weight did in fact cause the issue. It was also a custom "add-a-leaf" that broke. The factory springs were sagging a year before this trip as the Raptor is NOT built to haul weight.
