Thank you for a great cab-ride video on one of my favourite routes

At 1:30, literally just atop the bank there is a crescent, tis where Mr D Bowie lived and grew up and the pub on the corner was where he did his first gigs too :)

2:51 - Kings Meadows park to the left, oh we had a run in with Bromley old bill so many times, one time I had bought a Mini and my mate in his MK2 Escort and me in my Mini were using it as a racetrack being a perfect square oval and we were having a laugh when we spotted a third set of headlights that of a police Metro trying to overtake to nick us and we were ragging that poor copper for ages til we nipped off at a right angle down Milk St parking the cars up by the garages and walking nonchalantly away. We used to ride our Vespa's round it as well and could get quite a merry following of police cars before nipping out the top gates which the police cars couldn't get thru :P We often gave the evening commuter trains a 2 cheek salute from atop the climbing frame there, someone recognised us and me dad got told and was given such a shellacking, oh we were some pretty naughty lads and lasses :P Won't mention names but one of our "Mooning" crew is now very very senior at the RMT, bet he would rather forget that...

Ian Watson concerning if you were recognised by your “two cheek salute” 🤣

Brilliant footage, thanks for uploading. So many things I find astonishing about this tiny branch line, from the well oversized station platforms to the extremely short distance between bromley north and sundridge park station, makes me wonder about the necessity of both stations. I also wonder how often through trains operate, if there are even any in the first place! The whole line certainly looks worth checking out someday...

The regular through services to London were culled back in 1988, I seem to recall. Nowadays, it is just a 4 car service that shuttles backwards and forwards. If there is engineering work at, say, Chislehurst, they will still run trains from London to Bromley North at weekends. But you need to keep up to date with forthcoming engineering works for that one!

Oh what did they do to Bromley North? I remember the little goods yard, the Royal Mail stabling sidings, the strange incidence of the London Bridge signal number on a buffer stop light, some strange trains over the years ranging from the Hornby special to business and conference trains that would sometimes appear and the old "privilege ticket" opening doors closed to lesser punters hehe I used to do the market just behind the bus depot and I could tell a story from every street in the days before it became Bromley by Glades.

Just a single unit now popping backwards and forwards all day (except Sunday). It is 2 man operated in the peaks to facilitate 2 minute turnaround times. Amazing it’s stayed double track really!

@@emmo999 It is surprising its stayed open at all, I had heard the property lot were after the Grove Park substation land and also the Bromley triangle part of Chinbrook meadows, fierce defence by the Milk St allotments owners too from the house builders who took the old dairy land which had become a nature reserve and built on that (on the left before the footbridge just before S Park station) It won't be long before they start shaving out the land at Bromley North or pushing again to close it down so they can build on it. Henry Cooper's brother lived next door to Grove Park station, used to deliver his newspapers back in the day, we all knew Henry as he came round all the youth clubs, sometimes with Frank Bruno doing mentoring stuff, wasn't the worst part of London to grow up in.

What a 'challenging' route !! How does the driver deal with all of the stress !!! LOL. Aarre Peltomaa p.s. He doesn't have to worry about being held up by other trains.

This might be a silly question but does the Class 376 ever run on this branch?

southwest455 They did. But don’t now. 466s are the norm, with occasional 465s

465s now because 466s can't run alone because of not complying with some regulations about disabled toilets

Hiya, great cab ride videos very interesting. I was wondering if Train Simulator inspired you to become a train driver and if you play it as much now you drive trains in real life. Many thanks.

I do occasionally play Train Simulator, but I have always had an interest in the railway. I wouldn’t say I play it much now. When you drive for work, it becomes less of a novelty and fun?
@Bartteztheman

@@emmo999 thank you for your reply and yes I understand that being a train driver would take the novelty from playing Train Sim, also I think that people like you and i who have an interest in the railways have it in our blood, as in our ancestors who were a part of the railway and it's a part of us. All the best to you.

@@emmo999 I know what you mean. I was super enthusiastic about trains, then I became a fitter. I'm not doing that anymore, so my enthusiasm has gone back up again.
