Fun fact: this is the only scene between Bronn (Jerome Flynn) and Cersei (Lena Headey) in the entire series, at her request. The two were romantically involved before they suffered what both acknowledge was an awful breakup. The two were never on set at the same time and never shared table reads. Headey apparently hated Flynn so much so that despite this scene's direction for Cersei to walk between the kingsguards, Headey deliberating walks behind and around the taller of the two guards and makes no eye contact on her exit.

He had a lordship and was already sitting pretty ... why f*** that up fighting an insanely dangerous opponent for someone who couldn't really even meaningfully pay him for it? To the people saying they hated each other: "Flynn was in a relationship with Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey; rumors spread about the relationship ending on bad terms some time before March 2014, resulting in the couple being kept apart on-set. However, Flynn rebuffed the claims, stating he and Headey had worked in a scene together, adding "And the last time I saw Lena we were speaking, so I wouldn’t believe everything you read, and like I said, [the media] can get pretty desperate for stories." He continued by calling Headey "…a wonderful person and a wonderful actress."" It's probably not true.

***** "Bronn is a sell sword, not a knight." My point precisely. Knights fight pretty. The best among them are the Killers. Sellswords have no choice but to be killers. And Bronn was at the top of his profession. "who proved himself as a capable fighter against syrio forel " Being better than a few common foot-soldiers and a fool armed with a wooden stick while you are armed and armoured in cold steel (the best kind by the way ie castle forged) is no vindication of your capabilities as a fighter. As for Syrio being first sword of Braavos ... Me bringing 50% grade and being the valedictorian just because the rest of the class brought below 30% is no vindication of my scholarly prowess. Now this may not be true of the Braavosi but it also may. As far as Braavos is concerned, it is primarily a city of traders, banking guilds and merchant princes who primarily purchase all their muscle from the sellsword companies and unsullied. "one of the seven royal kings guard" Thats no guarantee either. In the words of Jaime Lannister "he had opened the door and then had allowed the vermin to creep in". Else how does a Craven like Boros Blount get into the Kingsguard?
@tiffles3890
9 жыл бұрын
***** I refuse to believe that you lack even the bare minimum logical capacity, so I must conclude that now you're just trolling. For the last time I will say this: "Trant was in the top 0.01% or something" The king of Westeros and indeed the hand of the king are supposed to be ... what 0.00001% of the nobility. Then how is it that so many inept kings and hands have occupied those positions. You didn't answer my question as to how a craven like Boros Blount got in if the selection process hadn't succumbed to corrupt practices (eg cronyism, nepotism)? As for Jaime Lannister talking shit, for all his crimes, he was deemed worthy of knighthood at age 15 and even after months of being chained, underfed and being unwashed (infections) and having his hand bound in chains, he fought a humongous cow, that too a well trained one like Brienne of Tarth to a bloody draw (at least in the books). That too Brienne was in armour and he was in rags. I'd like to see you even run for half a mile after that, leave alone fight someone. So if Jaime Lannister speaks in his own mind (POV character) that Meryn Trant is shit, I think its safe to say he isn't talking shit. Besides that, if the Hound himself, the man who could take a sword to even the mountain and hold his own, says that Teryn Mant is a Joke, then there is good reason to assume he is. "You don't make kings guard without some serious talent." Same old lack of logic. Wont repeat myself. Maybe Trant is a good enough fighter, but thats about it. "He was trusted enough as a protector to accompany MACE TYRELL" Mace Tyrell is one of the characters people in Westeros give the least fucks about. Proves nothing. "He's jealous of Trant for becoming the head of the kings guard" Ehm. Jaime is Lord Commander. "Sell swords are foot soldiers" Last I checked, Trant spent the majority of his day on foot and that in a duel, Knights had to dismount and fight like anyone else. SellswordS. Plural. We are talking about one single sell-sword here. One who has faced knights on multiple occasions and has never failed to kill them. No point in arguing. Bronn whips Ser Meryn Cunt like a dog.

He chastised Trant here for beating Sansa because he’s a full grown man while she’s a defenseless teenager, showing he actually does have morals unlike most other knights. The moment he was within distance to reach out and touch them, they were already at a disadvantage against his dagger. Both were standing too close together and wearing swords facing each other, and so not only would Bronn be able to stop them from drawing swords by simply moving 1 step closer, they also wouldn't be able to draw blades unless they moved further apart. Meaning that Bronn could probably grab the guy on his left with his free hand and pull him close, stab the guy on the right in the neck, and then proceed to stab the guy on the left as he tried to wrestle free. Even from a non-medieval standpoint, that's just shoddy security. I worked with a guy who did professional security and one of the first things he explained was "You never stand shoulder to shoulder with another guard, and you always position yourselves spaced out enough that at least one of you has time to circle the guy trying to start the fight. Cause the moment you both stand next to each other his odds of even hitting 1 of you by accident increases. Nope, look at the positioning again. The whosit guard on the right can block the incoming slash attack, while simultaneously drawing his sword. And at the same time, Trant delivers a nose-hit with his sword's pommel, again while drawing it. Bad news bears for Bronn all around. On top of the fact that those guys had some neck protection from slicing: that leather/metal bit dangling from their helmets. Meaning, Bronn would have had to stab, not slice. And while he stabs one, ther other stabs him in return. All in all, Bronn maybe would have won, but probably would have lost.

@@VG-fk6nk They are fully armored in fairly shit armor. There's metal but no real protection/gambeson under the armor to protect all the joints and other open spots. The helmets look like they are designed to direct weapon strikes into the head. The open bottom of the helm looks like it's designed to funnel any edge blade into the bottom/side of the head. The "knights" would be drawing their longswords from the same spot allow easy blockage of the draw as Bronn had moved himself up close. Multiple ways to stop the draw and kill the guy on the right in a couple seconds with a flick of the knife into the helm/neck area while maintaining control on the left. Even if the first stab on the right isn't fatal the next stab on the left side should be fatal. Getting stabbed in the face/neck/head is painful and bloody so the guy on the right would be dazed for a good bit allowing time for the finishing. The knights were not in a stance to deal with a physical impact as they were standing improperly while Bronn was already leaning in. That could just be the crappy way they portrayed fighting in the show though. The actors being bad at sword fighting is pretty par for the course in that tv show. One thing that is clear though is that Bronn is NOT the type to get into a fight unless he knows he will win. Consistently the character has shown that he is careful about picking his battles. Even though he thought he would likely take the mountain he declined because the odds and payment weren't good enough. THe fighting and 'strategies' really bothered in this show well before the writing itself.

As Oberyn Martell once said: 'Longsword is a bad option in close quarters.' Bronn has a longsword on his hip, but he doesn't reach for that. He goes for the dagger on his back. The Kingsguard both go for their longswords and although we don't see the fight take place, we know how easily Oberyn handled the Kingsguard in the brothel when he reached for a longsword and Oberyn managed to stab him in the wrist before the sword had even cleared its scabbard. He knows how to use which weapon at which time. And so does Bronn. Bronn has seen and been in enough fights to know when to pick them and which weapons are more effective in the given situation. If Cersei had left that room 1 min later, she would have found 2 dead Kingsguard in the hallway and Bronn covered in their blood. How he would've explained that situation, I don't know, but Meryn Trant and Ser Whatsit of Whocares would have been too dead to give a witness statement, lol.

john doe Mhe Jamie is captain of the Kingsguard and any farmers son with a pitch fork could take him down as he is now. And Meryn was seen struggling with Syrio forello who was armed with nothing but a toy sword. I'm not familiar with the accomplishments of Ser Boros, but Bronn seemed to have little difficulty with the Champion of the vale, and in the books he seriously considered fighting the Mountain, the ff-ing mountain. If he has a chance against the Mountain (and Bronn wouldn't consider fighting if he had no chance ) than two measly Kings guards who most likely were appointed by favor, not merit are no problem. Besides Ser Barriston claimed he "could cut the 5 of them like carving a cake". While Barriston is certainly a badass, if he could easily defeat the 5 of them, Bronn should be able to take 2 of them.
@Johnnythefirst
10 жыл бұрын
john doe 1. Syrio was unarmed, Bronn is not. 2. Trant's face is exposed. 3. Their swords are hung in a position (on the inside) where they would actually hinder each other trying to draw them quickly. 4. Bronn is too close to make a swing or jab. 5. His dagger is already unsheathed. He could stab one of them i the face and shoulderbump the second one out of balance while he's drawing. 6. Nowhere in the book these two are mentioned as exceptional fighters. After Jaime and Selmy, most men in the kingsguard were there for political reasons.

The problem is where will he strike? Their throats are bloody well protected. Kingsguard plate is not the same as Ser Vardis' plate. Less weak spots, more coverage. Bronn can only beat an armoured knight when he can exploit the gaps in their armour. If there are no gaps then his blade cannot possibly pierce thick plate, no matter how good of a swordsman he is.

yeah the real life knights ought their armomr was impenetrable and then came the arabians with light clothing and fast striking and masacred them. bron would do the same the guards are arrogant, and so full of themselves they think nobody can touch them, thats the weakness bronn knows
@alexanderv5698
10 жыл бұрын
marebbpc actually, the arabians were the ones who got massacred, they eventually won by using heavily mailed shock cavalry combined with horse archers and bested them by numbers and knowledge of terrain. Bron stood no chance whatsoever. The bullshit of this kukri lightning striking is odd, mostly considering the fact that a longsword when wielded by a trained swordsman can be just as quick as a knife draw+closing the distance. and even if he succeeds...there is the other knight ready for him. The real knight's true terror was a massed continuous volley from range combined with polearm equipped infantry.

Alexander V He definitely had a chance. You saw how he closed with them before they could draw their swords? That was intentional. Now, if they had drawn daggers instead (Jaime had one, used it to stab Jory Cassel in the eye, so I assume some Kingsguards have one) it would have been a much different story.

You can tell how Bronn is more skilled than the kingsguard from the fact that while they started drowing their swords, he proceeds drowing his kukuri instead, as prince Oberin said 'long swords are a bad option in close quarters', it takes more time to draw and they're harder to use at that distance. If it would have came to the fight, Bronn would have slayed the two of them while they were still drawing. Love this show and this kind of details

It started going downhill after season 4. I guess 5 wasn't terrible, but remember the bad pussy? Imagine how sorely that level of dialogue would've fit in the first seasons. That'd be like if Horatio Cane showed up in the middle of The Wire to crack shitty puns and endlessy fiddle with his sunglasses. I don't remember what season it was that Ramsay took over the Boltons but all it took was a stab and that's it. No succession crisis, no political upheaval in the North, no civil war or purges of Roose loyalists. Which would be fine in an episode of gothic Xena, but the first seasons very firmly built a world where actions have consequences and you just can't fucking stab a dude and take over his shit! Not unless you have a big ol' army. Not necessarily even then.

+Aerrowflex totally understand where you're coming from and the point you're trying to make. But understand that these are Kingsguard... they didn't get this position by being some kind of ordinary rookie fighter like that Vale knight. These are the best warriors in Westeros. They know what they are doing and would anticipate Bronn's move. Ser Meryn and Ser Boros would be ready for it in this scene and would likely be able to disarm him and run him through.
@stargate12345678

Arun R. I know what you're saying, but the Kingsguard are in no way as Elite as you believe. If you take on what Barristan the Bold said in I think season 2 or 3 (Not sure) when he is retired by the throne. He could carve through the five of them like carving a cake. He was older and yet still able to go toe to toe with 5 other Kingsguard. He is a Knight, a noble warrior, fought in many wars. Bronn is a knight, possibly fought in wars (He's been in sieges so I assume he fought for sides in the war). He's fought soldiers, knights, wildings, cut throats, he knows how to fight and he knows what kind of fight different people put up. I'd place my entire fortune and everything I have on Bronn killing these 2 Kingsguard before they could mortally wound him. Realistically all it would take is a quick swipe with the Kukri to the neck, one is down - the other would be drawing his sword at that stage but wouldn't be able to bring it back to either cut or thrust into Bronn in time before Bronn would grab onto him and use his Kukri again. Say he got his sword drawn, Bronn would retreat a few steps and get his sword out. Okay. No look at the surroundings. Pillars, close walls, with a roof above them. This cannot benefit an armoured longswordsman in any fashion. So there would be hesitant blows and thrusts, if Bronn took our Ser Teryn Mant first, that leaves the less skilled and unnoteworthy KG on his own, and I would argue Bronn could deliver a stronger blow to disarm him and revert to a smaller weapon to finish him off if need be.

Usually i like game of thrones for being realistic, but i thought this scene was a bit cheesy.. Usually bronn is the cool and collected type and certainly not the one to START a fight.. But this scene started off with bronn taunting the guards and even showing him reaching behind his back for his daggers. This was the one time the show portrayed bronn as being cocky and overconfident which just didn't seem to fit the bronn character very well. The guards were just following orders and bronn seemed to be the one looking for trouble. I just find it extremely hard to believe bronn would risk his neck over a simple hallway refusal to visit tyrion.

If bronn honestly thought something bad was happening to tyrion he would have looked concerned. Not insult the guards in such a lax/casual manner. And the relationship between bronn and tyrion is more gold bound than anything else. They just happened to begin liking eachother as friends. And in one of the later episodes when tyrion asks bronn to fight the mountain bronn says "i like you a lot, but i just like myself more" which was my favorite line. And that one line is something tyrion would probably say as well.
