Shelli Deckert I loved this shoe and ran my first and only marathon in it and qualified for Boston. If Boston hadn’t been cancelled, however, I would have run it one of the more cushioned new super shoes. Could be the Hyperion Tempo or even the Saucony Speed which I just got. I didn’t like the Launch 7 as much when I tried it on, partly just because it felt about 1/2 size larger. Instead I bought the Revel 3 and you might want to check out the Revel 4 coming out in August. It’s supposed to be more like the Launch but improved.

QOD: Adrenaline 20! I like the 12mm drop, especially as a runner with a history of achilles issues and mild over-pronation, and the guiderail stability system keeps the shoe stable without the extra weight of a dual density stability post. I use it for everything! An 18 miler at sub 7 pace, or 20 quarters at 75-80 sec I love the Adrenaline.

I’m commenting to all the Launch 6 lovers that I too loved that shoe. V. 7 ran about 1/2 size larger and when I tried it on in the store I also tried the Revel 3 and preferred it. Revel 4 may be even better than Launch 6-it will have a more responsive sole than v.3 (which was a “cushion” midsole) and it’s a really fun, light, versatile do-everything shoe. It comes out in Aug.

My favorite Brooks shoe is the Caldera 4. More aggressive luggs on a Trailtack outsole. 4mm offset with tons of cushion, very comfortable and a roomy toe box. Great training shoe and even good for ultra trail racing. I've ran in 100 mile races in this shoe never taking it off. Not a lightweight shoe, but the comfort of it doesn't feel heavy and I can get 400+ miles out of it. I've ran in the Calderas since their inception in 2016 and this is the best version they've created so far. Also at 140.00 it won't break the bank.

You would love the Caldera 4's! They went from the bio mogo DNA midsole to the DNA loft, the same midsole of the glycerins. More aggressive lug depth better traction with the trailtack outsole. 3mm lugs = non-aggressive trails. Rock plate = aggressive trails. Confusing but still look more useful than the Cascade, which is like a brick on your foot. QoD: Brooks strikes me as a shoe for Beginners. Usually sofa-like comfort in the heel, durable, and relatively affordable. A bit gimmicky with some of their color patterns. QD: I wore the Launch 6 on my one marathon to date and finished healthy and with enough time to BQ and make the cutoff, so it served me well. When I went to try on v.7 it seemed to run over-size and I tried the Revel 3 and preferred it. Seth, please check out the Revel 4 which comes out in Aug. Even 3 was a does-it-all super versatile, light, fun shoe. V. 4 will be more responsive. The Revel gets high praise from all reviewers but is way too much under the radar. However, I’ve been running in the Hyperion Tempo and love it. That outsole is holding up amazingly well, the midsole gets more and more fun, the fit was great out of the box. I started running in Brooks with the Pure line--Pure Flow and Pure Cadence. Now the only Brooks shoes in my rotation are the Tempo, and Pure Grit (great trail shoe for not-too-technical trails, low drop, very smooth, light...never catches stones in the sole), but I will want to check out Revel 4.

QD: Caldera 3. On my second pair having got 800km out of both my first pair and a pair of Caldera 2s. Roomy mid foot - a lot of shoes (eg Salomon) have too narrow an arch for me, both the Cascadia and Caldera are pretty wide in the mid foot. The Caldera 3 is also surprisingly grippy despite relatively shallow lugs. My theory is this is due to the wide platform and it being quite a stiff shoe. It’s a very high build quality - no tearing of the upper and I like how subtle the overlays are. Due to the stack height I would recommend it to someone looking for an ultra distance shoe. Though the 4mm drop is a little low for me I ran a mountain 50km in it with no issues. Interested to try this new trail shoe from Brooks.

The Hoka Torrent 2 is a great choice for the trails if you like some feel (not their highest cushion) and has a semi aggressive lug design. No rock plate makes them feel light, but have to be aware where I run in the desert with thorns and on technical rock trails. The biggest draw to these is the upper which forms nicely to your foot plus the drop is on the lower end at 5mm which I prefer being a mid to forefoot striker.
