They really earned the brown belts, especially with the katas. Kudos to their Senseis. And the artwork in your dojo is really cool

Videos like these make me want to get back into karate. I did karate for about 3 years (from when I was 7 until the dojo that I was at closed down when I was 10, and I was real close to getting my 3rd belt, at that time, so I was upset). If I got back into it (I'm 27, now), I know that I'd have to start as a white belt, again (which I wouldn't have an issue with), but I do wonder if I'm too old to get back into karate.

You are never too old to do something you enjoy. We have many students who started late. Find a good Dojo and enjoy the journey. Good luck!

Very nice testing. Very similiar style of testing in my own dojo in Cypress, CA. You guys definitely don't give away belts. It took me 11 years to earn my black belt. Keep up the good work.

You mean 11 years to get to shodan? What were you doing in that dojo, sleeping?

@@jorrisaddy6769 Lol. Our dojo is strict and makes people work for their black belts. On average it takes 7-10 years. To answer your question though, I broke a toe in my foot as a blue belt which held me back for several months. I also blew out my left knee which costed me six months. Then I had a few personal issues which set me back also for six months. Despite the challenges I got it done. Thanks for asking that question though.

@@michaelhubbard4023 yeah so say you had personal issues which affected your commitment to regular training and dojo attendance. But no matter how strict a dojo is, with regular training and normal commitment, it shouldn't take a student up to even 2 yrs to get to shodan, unless the student is not understanding and getting anything at all
@michaelhubbard4023

@@jorrisaddy6769 True. But McDojos give black belts after two years. However depending on the style most martial art forms range between 5-10 years. My style is traditional shotokan karate. BJJ takes 10 years for their students to get black belts. The minimum in my dojo takes about 7 years. Where are you training?
