These are great shotguns. I'm a little surprised that you and others are surprised that these are made in Japan. Nearly all Browning shotguns have been made in Japan since the early 1970s, including all Citoris. The use of a tang safety is considered normal for anyone familiar with the majority of double barrel shotguns and all Mossberg pumps. The location of the slide release is also the same as on Mossbergs and Winchester pumps. Both of those control locations are superior in my opinion because it means your trigger finger is only doing one thing, pulling the trigger.

I grew up shooting and 870 Wingmasters in the late 70’s/80’s & I Love this Browning BPS 12 gauge! What makes it best to me is the bottom eject and the tang safety like Mossberg. I had switched to Mossberg in the early 2000’s because Remingtons quality had severely suffered so this BPS was a breath of fresh air. Beautiful blueing finish, ribbed barrel, and wood furniture you wouldn’t dare find on 870.#Browning#12gauge#3”mag

Browning put the top tang safety on this gun to pattern it after most all double guns, If you've ever shot an over/under or side by side shotgun, this is where the safety is located. Much quicker in my opinion to disengage it as you bring the gun up. to fire.

I have owned several pump action shotguns over the years. I started with a Winchester 1200 then traded for a Winchester 1300 which I used for many years. Over time I got the itch to get something different so I switched to a Remington 870 express, bad idea, nothing but problems! Figured I was unlucky and got a lemon so I picked up a Remington 870 SPS Super Mag! The worst gun to date was the super mag! Three out of five empty hulls would get stuck in the chamber! Took to the gun shop and it was going to cost $120 to fix the problem so I said no friggin way was I going to pay to fix a brand new gun! Gave it to a friend who wanted it and he paid to fix it! I went out and got myself a beautiful Browning BPS Upland Speical in 20ga and have never looked back one! Seems as thou Browning is o e of the few companies left who still make a solid dependable gun! Way to go Browning! I will add that the Winchesters I started with work the very best with no issues at all. The only issue was looks and fit and finish, no pump shotgun out there compares to Browning in fit and finish!

Like you I start out with a Winchester 1300 in ‘92, I still shoot it and easily average 21-23/25 in Trap with it. In fact I have several 1300 verification, I just like the design and function. Personally I feel they are superior to Mossbergs and lower end 870’s, maybe not the Wingmaster’s, but the standard 870’s. Winchester and Brownings are my favorite shotguns. Although the Beretta’s are really good shooter, love my 694!!!

Top tang safety is probably the most intuitive and therefore the quickest of all the designs. If you're watching ducks fly in towards your blind it doesn't matter where your safety is; you'll find it. For quick flushing birds however, the top tang safety is the rig you want for fast, ergonomic use. When you look at the majority of all upland designs (including this one) they've got the safety where it should be IMHO.

It doesn't matter what purpose that you're using the gun for,the top tang safety is always in the same place, its just a basic logical position when you use the top tang safety as opposed to cross bolt safety system. When it's extremely cold out and you have heavy gloved hands on,it's much more difficult to use the crossbolt safety without touching the trigger,There has been many hunting accidents because of the crossbolt safety being too close in proximity to the trigger. Most manufacturers use crossbolt because its the cheapest safety system there is.The Browning has the best egronomics I've ever seen on any repeating gun ever made.I happen to have one in 20 gauge and its tons of fun to shoot.Of course the best feature of all is in invector-plus backboard barrel system which tightens up patterns dramatically and cuts recoil somewhat.

I would like to have another 16 with interchangeable chokes that can handle steel, not just pricey Hevi-Shot. The BPS has an extra pound on the M12. The M12 @ 6.3 lbs with a hard butt plate will beat you up when shooting clays or doves in light clothing. 1 1/8 kicks harder than you'd think in a gun that light.

I guess you know that John Browning designed it so the rights to Remington and Remington made the model 10 and 1910 like your model 17 through 1937. Ithaca picked it up called the model 37. It’s a shame Browning finally built their gun in 1970 70 well that’s history, and now Browning stock production in the spring of 2023 what a shame

If you want a better designed tactical old school pump shotgun then get yourself an Ithaca model 37 deerslayer. Browning designed it. Everything is in the right position. It has the best slide release if you're a right handed shooter. Plus if you buy a used one old enough(prior to 1975) they didn't come with a trigger disconnect which allows you to slam fire.

The the Ithaca shotgun is a direct copy of the Browning pump shotgun, which is the original classic pump shotgun that John M Browning designed .Sold the patent to Remington in 1907 andRemington made the shotgun in 1910 called it model 10 then Ithaca come along in 1933 when their patient ran out and in 1937 and picked up brownie pattern and made it for a while, late 1980’s ,in 1977 Browning built their own design shotgun that was started in 1907 just a little bit of real history there for you the real Classic shotgun

why matte metal finish is preferred over the traditional deep shinny gun blue? So what w finger smearing? U can always wipe that off? Back 20 or even 10 yrs ago, no video had complained about the finger smear on a blue finished gun. FINGER SMEAR is NUT Permanent. The deep blue finish is much more beautiful than the plastic looking matte coating. Out in the hunting environment, if ur careless, don't get wood furniture, no blue finish, and let it rain reign.

The action release button is optimized for left handed use. The bottom ejection is natural. If fact if there is some type of blowout in the shell rim, the gasses and whatever else involved, the fully enclosed receiver shields your eyes and face. It does happen, rarely but I did experience it using a right side ejection auto loader and me shooting left handed, got some Pifer burns and specs of blood around my right eye. Very lucky that day it wasn't anything worse. Btw, you will never jam a shell in the carrier with cold or gloved fingers like an 870 will do again and again. Had and 870 and had enough of it. Good fun, but now a great gun. Bought mine when I was 18 and 35 years later know I will have it for life. Hint for those who look at the older models of Brownings, BPS included, they come with fixed chokes that are patterned in the parallel design. That design seems to swage the foster type slug down and exit the last parallel section to deliver rifle like accuracy out of a bird barrel. 200 yard range no problem. I got another identical model with identical results for my brother. My gun can group, with Winchester slugs can put a 3 shot group into a softball at 120 yards. Again, I am keeping this gun for life,
