Abel Has Risen. Bruce Lee was a martial artist, and an actor. For someone to say Bruce Lee couldnt fight is someone that never met Bruce Lee personally. Chuck Norris never said he could beat Bruce Lee and Bruce used to beat up Chuck in sparring sessions. The greatest wing chun fighter, Wong Shun Leung who touched hands with Bruce in Bruce's latter years even said himself that Bruce Lee had very good kung fu and not many could play at his level. Did you know that studying under Yip Man and Fook Yeung kind of makes you a martial artist. Stop saying Bruce Lee was just an actor, it makes you look stupid. Do research.

Wow, the hate for Bruce here is unbelievable. You guys are completely misunderstanding why he is referred to as the "father of mma". It was because of his philosophy. He was basically the first man to actually merge multiple fighting styles. He didn't restrict himself to just one, some say he used as many as 9 or 10. That is why he is so highly regarded. We all know he didn't actually fight professionally, that's stating the obvious. Understand the context before you criticize, it makes you look slightly foolish.

@NAGA2086 Mixing martial arts is as old as martial arts. That's why certain disciplines developed the manner in which they did. Martial arts used to be practical, in fact, they still are!!! It is much older than anything in the last 500 years, that is for sure. It is only in competition where we do not want our people dying that such methods have become limited. Even MMA (and Vale Tudo) has their limitations, I wonder, still, if MMA's ground game meta would hold up, say, if the goal was to kill your opponent, or if weapons were permitted. I'd like to see Ronda Rousey pull off an armbar with a dagger in her throat.

the first man in modern film to mix martial arts perhaps.. but people have been fighting in real fights with real martial arts for hundreds of thousands and perhaps millions of years and i doubt the cavemen picked one form of fighting and stuck with it their whole lives. fighting is fighting and there are no names of moves and rules in nature to define the movement of the human body when it reacts instinctively during a hostile situation.

To the people who apparently don't know shit, they called him the God of MMA, because he was the one who really got MMA started (the first time combining martial arts was widely accepted and famously known) and he had insane speed, ability, reflexes, etc. The first of his kind pretty much. There's a reason Boxers, MMA fighters and icons credit him and his philosophy and use his ideas and his methodology (for example, Conor Mcgregor, Joe Rogan, to name a few, more examples in video aswell).

Dana White credit Bruce Lee as the Father of MMA to promote the UFC more, MMA gone on way before bruce lee all Bruce Lee did was popularize it in the west. Another early example of mixed martial arts was Bartitsu, which Edward William Barton-Wright founded in London in 1899. Combining catch wrestling, judo, boxing, savate, jujutsu and canne de combat (French stick fighting), Bartitsu was the first martial art known to have combined Asian and European fighting styles, and which saw MMA-style contests throughout England, pitting European Catch wrestlers and Japanese Judoka champions against representatives of various European wrestling styles. Many ppl was mixing martial arts before Bruce Lee. In Ancient Greece there was a sport called pankration, which featured a combination of grappling and striking skills similar to those found in modern MMA. Pankration was formed by a combination of the already established wrestling and boxing traditions and, in Olympic terms, first featured in the 33rd Olympiad in 648 BC. All strikes and holds were allowed with the exception of biting and gouging, which were banned. The history of modern MMA competition can be traced to mixed style contests throughout Europe, Japan, and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s; In Japan these contests were known as merikan, from the Japanese slang for "American fighting. Merikan contests were fought under a variety of rules, including points decision, best of three throws or knockdowns, and victory via knockout or submission.

The Ancient Greeks combined Boxing & Wrestling into Pankration, which translates loosely into: All thy Might. Meaning, to use all of the techniques, striking, wrestling, throws and submissions. It was an Olympic Sport from 667 BC until the games ended in the Roman Empire around 336 AD, nearly a thousand years. When the Olympic sports were being chosen for the current timeline we know now, the committee decreed that all of the original Olympic sports would be allowed EXCEPT Pankration. In fact, the first UFC pretty much followed the Pankration rules, no eye-gouging and no fish hooks, with no time limit.

He did have several REAL fights though, but for obvious reasons there isnt any footage of that around. There is footage of Lee sparring against Inosanto and Taky Kimura in 1967 though. By the time he died so much had changed for his deas of JKD but at least it's something

That's a complete myth. The only fighting he did was in movies. There is NOTHING to support that he "traveled to different dojos" fighting "masters in martial arts" and of course he supposedly won them all. He was one of the few guys trying different things and arguably did more for martial arts than anyone, but these claims of "rooftop fights" "dojo fights" etc aren't verifiable in ANY way and almost all of them are from 2nd,3rd, 4th hand sources that come from fanboys. Alright Boxing Legends TV I just have to say is Dana White credit Bruce Lee as the Father of MMA to promote the UFC more, MMA gone on way before bruce lee all Bruce Lee did was popularize it in the west. Also Vale Tudo is another mma predecessor in Brazil way before bruce lee.

Supernova the people I mention barely in the times where they even had TVs we are talking about the 1800s, MMA started by having different martial arts competing against each other to see which style is the best. His Concept is taken from Fencing called Interception which is use for stopping an attack from intering. Bruce Lee's Fighting method of Jeet Kune Do is design for Street Survivel using the Way of Interception with no rules which means Using No Way as the Way and Having No Limitation as Limitation which leads to having the flexibility to adapt and flow like WATER = Survivel.

He didn't get the chance to focus more on it because he died only 32 years old. He was well aware of the need of training grappling as he did movies with alot of different martial artists, he didnt learn grappling from only Gene Lebel. It wasn't as easy back then as it is now to get teachers on as high a level as it is today. And let's be fair, he died in -73 and jet-kun-do originated as late as -67. Dan Inosanto was asked in an interview of what direction Lee would have taken JKD had it lived and his answer was that, JKD changed more or less every month, but Lee was looking more into ground-combat more and more but unfortunately he died. Remember, when the UFC started in 93-94 or so people still wasnt taking ground-combat as seriously as we've seen later on.
