This looked like a heavyweight against a light heavyweight. Baksi just too strong.

What Woodcock lacked in chin, he made up for it in heart.

Baksi was a dangerous fighter. 61 wins against 9 losses in his career. Only stopped once, in 11 rounds against the great Ezzard Charles. Oddly forgotten. Died young, only 55.
Just heard about this fight in Brian Blessed's autobiography. It's everything he said it was!

The fight was listened to during the night whilst I was in Churchill ward Stratford upon Avon. Warwickshire at age 11.

Joe Louis [passed his best, and 6 y older than Ezzard Charles ] outweighed EC by 33 pounds YET Charles was the unanimous winner on points. I think Charles -who, as a heavyweight, was about the same weight as Woodcock-also beat Baksi [inside the distance?]. The Baksi/Woodcock fight should have been stopped at end of 1 st round.

Funny how Baksi never did fight Joe Louis. The Brown Bomber would have sent him home on a stretcher. Baksi had all the advantages over Woodcock but couldn't finish him when he had him hurt early. Louis would've put the Englishman away in the first round.

Joe Baksi was incorporated into Cockney rhyming slang as taxi. It was also used in Liverpool. I still say it.

Nah, Woodcock was just a slow starter. For some reason, he always needed to warm up before he really started hitting hard. Baksi even admitted that he had would have lost if he hadn't gotten the really lucky hit in out of the gate.
