The Como-Brunate cable railway is a unique way to reach, from the shore of Lake Como, the "balcony of the Alps".
The cable railway first opened to the public in 1894, a unique journey traced in a straight line on a hillside slope with a maximum slope of 55% on a 1084 meter track. It takes around 6 minutes and 30 seconds to reach the top, with two possible intermediate stops: Como Alta and Carescione, by request.
Brunate is a very popular, small holiday centre and offers an incredible panorama over the city of Como and its lake.
A curiosity that not everyone might be aware of: since 1912, a "cannon" installed in Brunate fires a salute every day at noon and it can be heard all around Como.
Just 2 km from Brunate, we'll reach the Voltaic Lighthouse of San Maurizio (a 29 m. octagonal tower), from which opens a vast panorama of the Alps and Mt. Rosa.
