My father used Brylcreem for decades since the 50s. He didn't lose hair. I remember the smell of it and watching him apply it to his hair since I was a little girl. I have used all sorts of expensive hair salon products but last week while grocery shopping I saw Brylcreem on the shelf and made me think of my father. So, I purchased it and it is the most effective product I've used. I have long hair and a few dabs goes a long way to making my hair shiny and silky.

Through my travels I've bought the Indonesian made (SE Asian) aqua-oxy original and anti-dandruff tubs (from Nepal), the USA tubes (old black and white box and current maroon/black box), and the Australian made original and anti-dandruff tubs (from NZ). From most greasy to least is USA tube, Aus original, Aus AD, Indo original, Indo AD. Since I don't like the oily look (my hair is naturally pretty oily) my go to is the Indo AD. I really like the smell of it, kinda fruity. I use it as a hair conditioner more than anything. There's basically no hold. I use the Indo original when I want a light hold. The smell of Indo original is more classic but not overtly like the USA tube. I haven't tried the UK tub yet, but I think the Australian is pretty similar. Ingredients are close between the two but the UK has synthetic lemon-ish scents added. Used to use Groom & Clean but spicy smell gets to be a bit too much.

dtimm612 Like you, I'm obsessed with the quest of hunting down different Brylcreems around the world. Because I like high shine, I hated the Indonesian/SEA version because it practically has a natural shine when Brylcreem is supposed to give a high shine, so I dismiss it as a failure tbh because Brylcreem should have actual shine, hence the name. But one man's trash is another's treasure. I know those who don't like anything too greasy will like the Asian version.
@pomadesandpompadours6309
6 жыл бұрын
I also found out there's a Mexican version which looks like an older version of the UK can, has the same UK scent but I heard it's not shiny enough. And there's a Brazilian version which smells like Froot Loops. Really weird how Brylcreem varies per nation. This came as a shock to me initially and when I broke the news to individuals within the pomade community they seem as equally confused. This whole time we thought that there's only 2 kinds of Brylcreem: tubed US and red pot non-US. The whole story changed when I used the SEA version for the first time and as my first Brylcreem and I could tell immediately that something was wrong.
@dtimm612

Interesting, that would explain the old looking tubs I sometimes see images of. I was surprised Kathmandu had the Indonesian version, because I always see all black pots of brylcreem "Protect" on Amazon saying made by Hindustan Unilever, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India, like the Hairfall, Dandruff, Shine, Dri-Damage Protect and I thought they would have those. The Indo AD I have is green pot, blue colored cream, the Australia AD is blue pot, and they all have white cream. Then there's a bunch on amazon I've never seen before, like gels, waxes and gel creams. Seems every country does their own thing. All made by Unilever though, except USA which is Combe. You would think Unilever would make the formulas the same throughout the world. FYI if anyone's interested you can see pictures of the Indo bryl I put on usa amazon, search for "B00VYW8P4Q" (ASIN)

dtimm612 There was an older Indonesian one from the 90s and 2000s that doesn't exist anymore called "Brylcreem Natural Styling Cream" in a black pot with a green leaf and smells like hair gel and it looks like a green gel. But it's the one Indonesian Brylcreem I really like (it's actually my first Brylcreem but not the "original cream") and its shine is much higher than the red aqua-oxy. I was just lucky enough to try it at my barber when i spooted a few pots, each with very little product left and those were probably the last pots surviving. What makes this Brylcreem different is that it is enriched with aloe vera.

I used this for a few weeks. I love the application but I didn’t like the fact that my hair felt greasy all day. Stephen Parkinson Yeah, Brylcreem isn't for everyone. Have you ever tried an unorthodox water based pomade? Non greasy and washes out easily but remains pliable throughout the whole day and not stiff. I can give some recommendations if you'd like.
@danbasta3677
2 жыл бұрын
Just a little advice. Yes, this product is on the greesy side, however it depends on how much of an application you use and the length of your hair. I have always said and it is after all written on the tube, A little dab will do ya, and that's exactly what your suppose to do, only use a very small application of this product in your hair. When using this product, you use just a small application with every other day hair washings and combing out your hair, this way, you will train your hair to the desired looks and effects that you want and desire. Some guys have extremely dry hair, lacking in natural oils and they can go through a tub of this stuff probably every three months, while other guys hair is normal which has the alread right kind of natural oils for both the scalp and for the hair, and in that case, a styling jel, again, a small application is best for their hair, and hair type make up.

What does it mean when it says condition your hair in the instructions of how to use it
@pomadesandpompadours6309
5 жыл бұрын
O yeah yeah Brylcreem is a 2-in-1 hair product - both a styling product and a leave-in-conditioner. So when the instructions say "rub through a small amount of Brylcreem to style and condition hair", that means you just style your hair with it as usual - the Brylcreem itself does the conditioning of course. It conditions as you style it, and as it sits in your hair all day.

If you want something more classic with the higher wet-sheen look then Tabac Hair Cream of Germany is similar and obviously has a light hold too but has a better hold than Brylcreem. Modern creams with a classic look and better hold are Lockhart's Hair Groom and Lockhart's Groom Cream. If you want a stronger product with a cream-like or creamy scoop, you should try looking at a type of unorthodox water based pomades called "cream pomades", which typically give a natural or medium sheen and not the greasy sheen of older hair creams. Some examples are Grim Grease cream, Flagship Cream Pomade, Nostalgic Grooming Cream, Grand Classics Cream Pomade, and Shear Revival Gray Ghost.

@@pomadesandpompadours6309 Thanks. The reason I ask is because I have an interesting question for you. As a Muslim we are supposed to pray times a day. We must be in a state of wudu (ablution to do this). Wudu are actions using water to clean yourself. Wudu last about 24 hours but if you go to the toilet you have to preform wudu again at some point before you pray. One of the actions of wudu is masa of the head this is where you get some water in your hands and run it over your head. You need to make sure that the water reaches your roots however you don't need to wash your head like youre shampooing it. My question is what do you think is the best thing to do in terns of wearing a styling product for the day? I would literally have to be applying hair product a good few times in the day if I do wudu multiple times. I was thinking to wear the product after Zuhr pray (it's at about 1pm). That way I have already been to the bathroom multiple times and can wait to go to the bathroom when I get home after work (hypothetically if I waa working tgat is) and clean out the product then as I usually clean it out after a day out. Nah I would not use that shit anymore. May be better products are available but brylcreem is not the one just a nice bullshit.

The shine will not go away during the day, if it does.. well than you'r doing something wrong, i think there is no hair product that can beat brylcreem in it's shine. The overall performance depends on your hairtype, if you have thick wavy hair that's trained to go into a pompadour, your blessed for this product. About the acne breakout, that veries from person to person. I don't have that issue

There are videos of the American version of Brylcreem vs. the UK version of Brylcreem. The American version is the best one. You should order it online. They come in about 8.5 oz tubes and it is creamier than the UK version. It also does not get contaminated by touching it in jars with your hands. The hold is also better than the UK version.

Kevin Ceniceros There is a written review of the US vs UK but there's never a video of it and I ought to be the first and will make it very detailed. Let's see if your claim is true. I'll find out in October

Eric Ott Haha I made a review on it which ended up becoming a rant. It's probably not as shitty as I made it to be, and others who don't prefer something too greasy may enjoy it. But I was being very subjective against it because I strongly stick to the principle that Brylcreem must be shiny, which Asian Brylcreem is not (there's a reason why it's called BRYLcreem).
