Tonight the Rockledge Raiders will host their biggest rivals, the Cocoa Tigers at 7:00 pm on BSN.
The Raiders, who have dropped three of their past five and are looking to snap a two game losing streak come in to tonight’s game at 10-5.
Coach Colin Kearns team is scoring 66 points per game and they are playing well defensively allowing just 58.
The Raiders are playing an iron sharpens iron type of schedule to prepare them for February.
Those three losses in their last five have come to No.8 St. Thomas, No.42 Holy Trinity and to No.23 ranked Providence School from Jacksonville.
The Raiders are the top seeded team in the north in the upcoming Cape Coast Conference Championship tournament
Rockledge is led in scoring and rebounds by senior, Ryan Blount. The University of Tampa commit is averaging 25 points per game and is averaging almost seven rebounds per game.
The interesting story line in tonight’s game is the Raiders Mark Christian. The Rockledge Junior spent his first two seasons playing for Cocoa and transferred this past year. His father, Mark, is a Rockledge basketball legend and was inducted into the Raiders Sports Hall of Fame in November.
Cocoa will also have to defend one of the best guards in the county in Terrance Shannon. The junior is second on the team averaging 13 points and he leads the team with five assists per night.
Sophomore Conlan Oakley is having a good season as he is averaging nine points anf five rebounds per game. Navy commit, CJ Kearns checks in with six and five respectively while senior Kiori Jordan-Thomas also is averaging six points per night.
The Cocoa Tigers are 3-6 and looking to jump start their season with a big road win against their cross town rivals tonight.
Cocoa is led by five players averaging seven or more points per game. Junior Travon Graves leads the team with 14 points per game.
Junior Damien Bryant checks in with nine points per night while fellow junior Corey Peterson is averaging eight.
Sophomore Dontay Williams is averaging seven points per night and he leads the team with six rebounds per night. Freshman Antonio Adderley is also knocking down seven per game.
Cocoa is scoring 55 points per game but are allowing 60 to their opponents. A win for Cocoa tonight would most certainly propel them into the upcoming Cape Coast Conference tournament where they will play as the No.5 seed in the north bracket and face Cocoa Beach Friday night.
THE SERIES:
Since 2006 Cocoa leads the series between the two rivals 25-16. With that said, Rockledge has won four in a row over the Tigers and 13 of the last 16 matchups including a 57-44 win early last season.
The last time the two teams finished with a one possession score was in 2021 when the Raiders defeated the Tigers 66-63
