A stocky brown bird rockets up from just in front of your feet, but is it a Common Snipe, or its rarer relative Jack Snipe? Let us help you tell the two apart.
As a new birder, I honestly don't know what I'd do without these videos. Just excellent. I keep coming back.

I love these videos and descriptions. Very helpful, quality photography, and a joy in their own right. For me the addition of some sound recording of the birds calls would have improved this one - especially the call of the snipe when flushed.

Amazing! Such a beautiful clear video! I’m pretty sure it’s common snipe flying up I front of me when I walk in the fields! This definitely gives me more clarity!!!

@@solitudeguard5688 yes bro, this bird is so smart and usually makes its moments very quickly from one place to other so in the old ages a person who hunts this bird with Arrows/Archer was called SNIPER.....

I thought what I saw might have been snipe, but now I don't know. It certainly had a very long bill. It wasn't on the ground, there were two of them, flying around my head and making a lot of noise. I wish you included identification of them in flight and the calls they make.

The xeno-canto website (xeno-canto.org/) is a library of bird sound recordings that could help you make the ID from the calls.

+Julius Bell Hi Julius. These videos are short and are meant to help ID the species in the field. I agree the mating flights of the two species are very different, but as Jack Snipe is not found in UK when Common Snipe is displaying, there is really no need to add this feature to enable us to separate the two species.
