Rm says something about sides eroding so basically if you erode the sides of the character ㅁ you get the character ㅇ. That turns 'saram' to 'sarang'. Saram=people sarang=love
@SimrohnIftekhar
6 жыл бұрын
10:13 One of the things you miss not looking at the Korean romanization next to the english translation in Trivia: Love is how RM uses sarang (love) and saram (human). That is something he likes to mention a lot about how you can find so much symbolism in the fact that these two words are so similar. It's like the korean equivalent of the english aspect of the song that you guys pointed out with the "I to an O." That's the chorus that he keeps repeating "saram, saram, saram" "sarang, sarang, sarang". Just love that thing.

9:16 In Trivia: Love, there’s another layer of depth to the statement “Make a person into love”. In Korean, person is 사람 (pronounced saram) and love is 사랑 (sarang) - so they’re only one letter different and sound very similar. Later he adds in more similar words: wind (바람 baram), blue (파랑 parang), pride (자랑 jarang). And if you’ve relistend to it, you’ve already caught that the live/love i/o section is in English, so he’s doing word plays in both languages. 23:19 The layout of the album is very intentional - it starts with falling in love, then being in a relationship, then a break up, then learning to love yourself.

I know a lot of armys say they miss the old BTS but I think this is one of their most ambitious concepts yet. hyyh told loosely related short stories about youth, but the love yourself series tells a larger story over the course of multiple releases. WINGS was so beautiful and dramatic but I personally feel the solo songs in love yourself are even more cohesive and they fit like a puzzle. If you're not feeling this series I really suggest you read through all the lyrics from Euphoria to Answer. I want to point out that the first lyric of Singularity [which starts the TEAR portion of the album, or the 轉 (ten) - twist] is "Sound of something breaking/I suddenly wake up from sleep".....what beautiful imagery to represent the sudden turn and change of tone. I think BTS are one of the best storytellers in Kpop. They are still sharing their personal struggles, still writing their lyrics, still producing, but this time theyre on a world stage. and IDOL may not be everyone's favorite, but since debut namjoon struggled with being called an idol and for him to literally shout out he's proud of this name in their TITLE TRACK five years later is a serious glo up.

I was writing this comment under another video, but since you were talking about how the list of tracks looks quite unusual, I'm gonna share it with you too. In Answer the tracks are listed in a little odd way for a random person, but when you look deeper into it: WONDER(Euphoria) + TRIVIA[introduction](Just Dance) + HER(Serendipity, DNA, Dimple) + TRIVIA[development](Love) + HER(Her) + TEAR(Singularity, Fake Love, The Truth Untold) + TRIVIA[twist](Seesaw) + TEAR(Tear) + ANSWER(Epiphany, I'm Fine, Idol, Answer: Love Myself) Every album has a Chinese character in the title that references the classical narrative structure and development of a story: Kishōtenketsu (起承転結). WONDER (Euphoria video) -> 起 (ki) - introduction HER -> 承 (shō) - development TEAR -> 轉 (ten) - twist ANSWER -> 結 (ketsu) - conclusion Also songs in HER are more on the "let me love you, we were destined, I have a hard time bc I love you" side. When on TEAR they elaborate more on "heartbreak, love that was fake, unable to show your real face, hiding behind the mask". And then in ANSWER "I'm fine by myself, I accept everything that I am, I don't need to prove anything to anyone, I am me, I love myself and I will go my own way, we can go together but I am my own person". It is also very interesting that Her and Tear segments seem to have the same order: INTRO: Vocalist's Solo + Main Track + Vocal Line's Song + Rapper's Solo + OUTRO: Rap Line's song Wonder is a shorter version of this: Vocalist's solo + Rapper's Solo So this seems a little bit that they are going in the loop that has been referenced in the "Epiphany" video Until Answer's segment where the pattern has been broken, the answer has been discovered. INTRO: Vocalist's Solo + I'm Fine + Main Track + ANSWER: Love Myself Also female vocal on Suga's track is Adora - female producer from BigHit I counted that you will listen to all of the tracks, but it's okay I understand. Just listen to "DNA" (pedal 2 la mix) bc it's amazing and full versions of Euphoria, Serendipity and Epiphany - bc more beautiful vocals. Have a nice day!

I'm Fine is supposed to be sort of opposite to Save Me. Both in the beginning and the lyrics. Specifically in RM's I'm Fine rap, the lyrics mean opposite to his Save Me rap, and they are arranged in reverse, if that makes sense. (The first lyric of his Save Me rap correlates and is opposite to the last line in his I'm Fine rap) Also, apparently IDOL was supposed to be in Love Yourself: Tear, but something happened with Nicki's agency, so they could not release it.

For the part in RM's Trivia: Love track that says that you make me from a person into love, there's actually some really interesting wordplay going on that might be difficult to pick up from English translations! In Korean, a person is "saram" and love is "sarang", by changing the letters in "saram" to "sarang", he is quite literally changing from a "person" to "love"! I don't know what the Korean word for "live" is, but for the part where RM sings "I live for my love" also does the same thing (it works well for English and Korean too haha). RM actually talked about this in one of his Vlives, where he commented that the reason why these words are so similar is because people cannot live without love, whether it be platonic, romantic, familial, etc. I really enjoyed your reaction, and just wanted to provide some extra context to the song because I really love how RM plays around with word meanings!

I agree. One of the things that makes BTS songs stand out from most pop and kpop songs is the intellectual and emotional value they carry. So it is important to understand the message of the song and how the lyrics are reflected on the music as well coreo. To a certain degree, I think Umu focus mostly (if not only) in just the music theory, which is fine I guess as this is the topic she likes to talk about in this channel. However, BTS musical value doesnt resides only in the music, but also in the lyrics, which to me, are as important as the music itself.

If you guys find the time and haven’t heard the others yet, you should react to the new versions of some if the old songs (Epiphany, Serendipity, Euphoria, Singularity[?], DNA remix, full version of MIC Drop remix, the remix of Idol, etc). I’d love to hear what you think of the changes, I really respect your opinions and the insight you give. For Joon’s solo “Love,” the word for “person” in Korean is very similar to the word “love” and technically it says something like “you erode person to love” and so when you “erode” the corners of the character for person, it turns into the character for love. When you couldn’t tell if it was a girl or Jimin, it was a BigHit producer known as ADORA and she does a lot of backing vocals for the boys. In I’m Fine, they say you can let go of my hand now because I’m fine and in Save Me they say grab my hand before I fall so I’m Fine plays off of Save Me and also, obviously, relates to the theory by that pertains to when you flip “save me” it reads “I’m fine”

okay but how is IDOL westernized, when it's south african and traditional south korean sounds?
@hesAhead

sarah i Because it’s structured/written like any generic American pop hit;And if Any American artist added Chinese traditional sounds for example that doesn’t mean that the song isnt hip hop oriented like any other generic hiphop song

MJ most kpop song are bought from western songwriters where the structure is also western so i dont get the point of specifically calling bts westernized? It’s a new absurd trend of calling them that and undermining them, cos they’re blowing up in the west. Which is especially annoying when they’ve always been inspired by western artists in their music. I wouldn’t mind them being called that if it wasn’t being suddenly thrown around by kpop stans to discredit them
@hesAhead
6 жыл бұрын
sarah i Yeah of course there are ,but I guess the main difference is that Most western producers who wanna experiment sounds that will never attract The “western public “ so they approach the Kpop companies first mainly the major ones and when the company likes the Producers music they hire him to compose/produce a totally different songs but with their own conditions..that’s how it usually works but of course there are a dozen other companies who sample and produce by their own or approach a western producer to make a globally likable song but I guess bts gets a lot of hate about it is because of their popularity or idk it’s beyond me really

Someone said that in RM’s track, the part where he was talking about turning a person into love was pretty cool. In Korean, someone is “사람” and it looks and sounds like the word for love “사랑” so when he meant turning a person in to love he meant it literally in words. (Idk if this makes sense lol)

Jelaine Velasco yesss omg and the part that made me really reallly love his lyrics in love is that he says “saram saram saram you eroded my corners so now I am sarang sarang sarang” or smth like that and he means eroded corners as in eroded the corners of the actual letter ㅁ to turn it into ㅇ that blew my mind and just made me love namjoon even more if that’s even possible 😭

RM's verse in I'm fine is really cool, it's like the opposite and turned upside down(?) from his verse in Save me. I can't remember what the phenomenon is called, but it's really cool when you read the lyrics next to each other and from the top for Save me and then the bottom for I'm Fine.

Bts "I'm fine" & "Save me" are connected. Bts albums have concepts. "Save me" came out on the Bts album Most beautiful moment in life pt.3 back in 2016 the lyrics for "Save me" is a love song telling someone I will fall without your love. But "I'm Fine" is apart of the Love Yourself:Answers album that just came out (2018) The song is about being fine because they love themselves. The concept of this ablum is about self love & coming to terms with the fact that they as individuals is enough. You hear this theme through the whole album. Which is the conclusion of the Love Yourself series. They released 3 mini albums in this series and one compilation that had some new songs. Love Yourself: HER Love Yourself: WONDER( this was the Japanese release and ain't talked about much in the west. Love Yourself:TEAR and Love Yourself:ANSWER(this was a compilation album with new songs) LY:HER is about finding your better half, you hear this tracks I'm *Best of me,Dimple,Serendipity OUTRO:Her and DNA* LY:WONDER(I don't known much about this one) but Japan is really strict and it's hard to find music promoted here on KZitem. Most people just give up BUT 9 times out of 10. Promotes the same songs in Japanese. LY:TEAR Is about love coming to an end. The track that best represent is Outro:Tear. Bts uses the word for both its meaning. Tear: as in crying and Tear: as in something being torn apart, also you hear this theme in the album in the tracks Singularity, Fake love, the untold truth and 134340. Speaking of 134340, That is the coordinates to Pluto. Just to Reiterate the genius of Bts. This song talks about how they went from being an important part of their loved ones life to nothing, the same, the same way Pluto went from being an planet to another rock in the sky LY: ANSWER Is the end of the series. They have taken us on a journey of finding love, to unwillingly and willingly breaking up that love and now where here. They are very understanding. That without self love you can't truly love someone else. Happiness starts within you. You got to love you before you expect anyone else too. You hear the theme of self love in tracks Idol, I'm fine and ANWSER: Love Myself TRIVIA:LOVE if u pay attention to both English and Korean lyrics u can notice his really poetic word play. Like when he sings "before I knew u, my heart ( 심장 ) in his entirety was soley a straight line " the word for heart is mainly made from straight lines, and right before that he said " you're the right person that will change a person " ( 사람 ) to love ( 사람 ) and then " you invade all my concern, you make me turn into love " ( 사람 ). So when you round all corners of the last character from the word 사람 it will turn to 사람 = love. Also his point is that you need another person to make real love. And of course that part with alphabet, when he says "I" is so distant to "U", but he will cross all letters to reach "U" (You)

I begin to love this album more and more. I needed to time to fall in love with it and now it seems like I'm beginning to admire the genius that this album is. Namjoon said that the next album is 'for us' Army's (I may be wrong, forgive me), I'm really looking forward to hear what they want to say next. Although I may grow older and even a bit apart from them, I'll never stop loving them. They brought a whole new world into my life and for that I will always be grateful.

I'm in love with the save me i'm fine concept. The fact that they released Save me first then I'm fine instead of I'm fine save me shows that people are able to overcome situations that makes them want someone to save them instead of hiding the fact that they are having a hard time within the words 'i'm fine'. RM also said that the reason he put 사람 (person) and 사랑 (love) together is because once you really connect with a person you soften them in a way; and when you soften the edges of the ㅁ character in 사람 it becomes the ㅇ character in 사랑 so you both literally and figuratively turn a person into love! Rm is such a genius 😭

IT IS ORGANIZED, lemme just tell you 1. Euphoria - Just Dance : from the LY ‘Wonder’, not released as an album, only as a connector of the LY series. It’s basically about the first phase of falling in love OR before you fall in love with someone. JK Euphoria tells us that when we like/love someone, we have some kind like euphoria feeling. J-hope Just Dance tells more about his love and passion to dance. 2. Serendipity - Her : from the album LY Her. The phase when we fall in love. When we fall in love, we don’t think about others. All we had in mind is just love love love and how it’s everything that matters. I can’t talk about all of the tracks but I’ll focus on the Trivia Love since you guys react to it. Basically it’s like usual love song but with RM’s uniqueness in writing lyrics, it’s the BEST. 3. Singularity - Tear : from the album LY Tear. This is the phase when love turns against you and you’re heartbroken. When you realize that love is not really all that happy, it can be sad sometimes it can lead to dark things. Like the Trivia Seesaw, Suga said that ‘repeated seesaw game’ and ‘I’m tired of this’ or ‘let’s stop now’. He basically saying that love is like a seesaw where it could go wrong if someone is too greedy or they don’t like each other it became boring. A NICE breakup song, really. 4. Epiphany - Love Myself : from the third album of the series and also the last one, LY Answer. This is by far the best repackaged album because of the story itself. Notice how it’s been phases of love all along, but it ends with loving yourself. People mostly forgot that in order to love someone you need to love yourself. The most important message of the series. You know, I’ve heard this kind of message everywhere, but I only understand it now from bts. It’s just amazing how the put effort and time to arrange this so people would realize. Cuz I get it. If it’s only one album, I don’t think I will take it seriously. But hey, it’s BTS. That’s all. Thank you for reading my opinion. Of course it’s not 100% true since it’s my own interpretation of the album. But, I think it’s beautiful in that way. Buy LY by BTS and support the #LoveMyself campaign 😊

9:16 - RM says: "I'm just a human, you erode all my corners and make me into love" which is the best fuckin wordplay I've ever heard in my life because 사람 (saram) means human and when the edges are eroded of ㅁ (the "m" in saram) it becomes ㅇ ("ng"), making 사람 (saram) into 사랑 (sarang), which means love. RM does the most meta shit in his lyrics.

"Who will make a 'person' into 'love'" not only is that a really intimate and unique lyric but it's also a wordplay. 'Person' in Korean is 사람 (saram) and 'love' is 사랑 (sarang) so by making a person into love he's literally just changing a character, ㅁ to ㅇ. It's clever and it works so well, stan a lyrical genius
