This video just proves even more that Buakaw’s mind is just as strong or even stronger than his body. Just pure will and determination and it’s an honour to see this man fight in my time.

I can only do 8 kms top in one hour., but if I had someone to chitchat with while jogging, I "might" make it to 15 kms. But it is just an anticipation.

Not the most efficient way to train for endurance, but definitely an impressive feat. Ideally you would want to do intervals at a higher speed with short rest, and maybe aim for 10-12km in intervals. 15km is unrealistic for someone to regularly implement in to their training (multiple times per week year round) simply because of the high wear and tear for the relatively little reward. Intervals at a slightly faster pace with little rest would be much more beneficial vs. the wear and tear on your body. Much more efficient and sustainable in the long run. Again, Buakaw is conditioned for this type of training from a LIFETIME of running distance, his bone density in his shins and feet is probably much more than ours, also their quality of nutrition over there would help too in terms of inflammation and recovery. Still impressive nonetheless.

Thanks for information. Rest and recovery must be important for him as well. I wonder how much sleep he gets. Pretty sure he naps in between workouts. Trains once in morning then at night.

I remember seeing on a video showing a day in the life of Buakaw that he runs 10k in the morning, then hits heavy bag for rounds, then hits mitts/ thai pads for rounds, then does a full body weeight training work out. After his morning session is complete, he'll eat a lot of food, and sleep 3 hours. Then he wakes up, runs 5k to start the session, and repeats the first session except rather than weight training at the end, he spars then eats a lot of food. He does get a lot of rest with that nap, but 15k per day is simply impossible for 99% of all humans especially non-thais or people who aren't used to running that since a child. The quality of nutrition in Thailand is also far superior to pretty much every where in the world. They don't have as vast of a variety of different foods like we have, but it's all grown organically on their soil and free of the gmo and chemicals/ watered down garbage we have in most of Europe and basically all of North America. The quality of poultry, fish, rice, and lentils in their diet (which is pretty much what thais eat with some spices) would be so high in nutrients this may play a part in their ability to recover from such frequent long distance running, vs. Europeans and North Americans. Again, it's all just speculation. But I can tell you that there are FAR better and efficient ways to train for endurance than running 15k straight.

Yes, you are correct. HIIT training is considered intensity, although you can add volume to your HIIT training by simply adding intervals or more "work" to be done in that workout, you will only be working that much harder at a peak intensity. This comes with consequences in terms of recovery. Also, your body adapts to new stimulus in your V02 max much faster than your lactic threshold (body's ability to mitigate and flush out lactic acid for example the bike or running stairs). It takes a lot longer for you to develop a lactic threshold and to improve in this energy system than it does to improve on your V02max, however since your v02max requires training that is so strenuous, once you adapt to that new level of v02 max, you now have to make your training that much more difficult in order to still progress. This is where you start to see plateaus and injury because athletes will either be too lazy or not recovered enough from their training to be able to push any harder in their HIIT to improve, or they will be training too hard and their body will start to break (overuse injuries, muscular ruptures). Also, steady state cardio is technically called Aerobic Capacity, which is your body's ability to handle volume at a low state. This doesn't mean you need to run a 15k straight with no rest, it could mean you run 3k at your 2k pace, with a one minute rest, and repeat five times (total of 15k, only you are running at a faster pace). IT's not fast enough to develop lactic threshold, and it's not fast enough to b considered v02 max, but you are developing bone density, and time on your feet which is crucial. You would want to have a strong foundation in Aerobic Capacity, then build off of that with lactic and V02max training. "A triangle is only a stable as the size of its base." And that applies to endurance as well.
