This piece was composed by Lou Harrison in 1976. Though largely unheard, the melodic structure of this piece reveals intricate compositional "games." This aspect of Harrison's music has been under appreciated, but shows that he explored the ability of melody to create form. In Javanese tradition, gamelan performances customarily end with a Bubaran to leave the audience with the joyous sound of gamelan ringing in their ears. Saxophone: Patrick O'Keefe with the Sumunar Gamelan Ensemble of Minnesota.
