I definitely agree that NewJeans has a strong meta angle. People tend to just rely on Y2K in their analysis but I've always been drawn to how Attention is as direct of a message to the audience as a debut can be. NewJeans isn't pure escapist nostalgia, it's contemporary social media drive nostalgia. At the same time, I think the Get Up EP rollout was a bit much. There was so much focus on the tick tock tick part of ASAP during the pre-release cycle and then in the end ASAP got lost in the shuffle. To be honest since Attention I've been a bit lower on the artistic depth of NewJeans MVs that most. I'm just not that into the coy mysteriousness that their plots have. I think the singular aesthetic vibes of the MVs are their strength. So with Bubble Gum, I appreciate that it's like a palette cleanser. To connect with recent pre-release discourse, I think not being on streaming reinforces that this is an appetizer rather than a main course. That function also highlights the aspects of NewJeans I like the most. I do personally wish we get a straightforward message like we did with Attention but I've kind of lost hope given that others don't rank Attention as highly as I do.

I definitely get what you mean with attention! It’s probably my favorite song of theirs to this day. It’s a simple song that doesn’t overthink things, yet I think a lot of dimension was added to it by being the first time people ever heard of NewJeans - they were quite literally looking for attention with that song

For me Attention is top 5 of their best songs. Just a second place right after 'Ditto'. I like the musicality, the vocals, mv and the dance. Basically, just everything. Literally was listening to it right before clicking on the video. It also has some personal connection to me, cause that is the song i was listening in 2022 in a bus every morning when i was working on my best job right after uni. Add to it the view of mountains and sea behind my window and we have the best summer song experience ever.

so happy to see Attention appreciator, for it has to be the best song of their EP album. yet I never wondered how Attention was such a perfect song for them to come out of nowhere "looking for our attention" until choujimi mentions it. it is such a good idea. and I always grateful for the team behind this decision.

No. Bubblegum and How Sweet (Korean comeback) is ONE double single, Supernatural and Right Now (Jp debut) is another double single.

I originally thought the song wasn't on streaming services because Ador wanted to make sure that the MV got views. But I like your reasons more. My other theory was that they learned from the Get Up era that having that many title tracks was overwhelming and made a proper pre release this time around so everything got the right amount of attention. I also believe they did this with Super Shy. SS wasn't that strong of a song by itself, as a title or not, so by pre releasing it it also got the attention they wanted. As for the time between the pre release and the actual ep, they couldn't afford to take a long time to release the album, because even a hybe group can lose relativity and popularity if they're gone for too long. Plus they were new, so that wouldn't have been very good. This time though their fanbase is big enough to wait and not forget about them, so they can afford the lose of streams.

The Japanese version of Bubble Gum will not be released with 'How Sweet' or 'Supernatural' the version for the shampoo commercial was in three languages. Hyein said the song was in 3 languages so maybe that’s the version that will be released. Also the “EP” is just a double single and the instrumentals
@choujimi

That’d be pretty interesting if the official song is in three languages, but then I also wonder why we have full Korean version from the music video?

I remember how I used to listen to Hurt 250 Remix from KZitem back then, until it is released on streaming platforms on an album.

Well I can suggest something . 1. Builds that anticipation for its streams. Streaming for a calm Song is rare and hard to get. Look at hurt vs attention streams. Anything calm like this is doesn’t have the tendency to well. 2. Also MV views people look to this song because it has been a a year since a proper project has been released.

NewJeans might release the JP ver of Bubble Gum later, with a japanese album of their korean songs, the opposite to Twice's format (japanese vers, then a original japanese song, japanese ver, japanese song) etc.
@SoraiaLMotta

nice to know. maybe it's that they wont depend in every song to do direct profit, as they have their cover show on youtube, and this song ins't so in line with the album direction. But as a more casual fan it bothers me a little bit.

Here after the release of How Sweet. I love how NewJeans and their team is commited to craft their art and go fully in for the concepts they are doing with whole attention to detail. because in kpop where everything groups put out is so predictable and repetitive, like concept teasers, trailers, tracklists, highlight medleys. yet NewJeans here stand with their art. their passion and commitment makes them stand out from the crowd of repetitive groups.

It's really normal in the japanese industry for MVs to drop way before the release of the single or album though. I don't think it's that deep!

I hadn't thought that there was anything wrong about Bubblegum not being on streaming because Ador has done this before, like you pointed out. On the other hand, I am worried that if Hybe decides to be vindictive with NewJeans -- or if the girls' parents (and MHJ) interfere with their contracts -- that we won't ever get the EP and this song will only ever be accessible through the MV. It's probably an unfounded concern, but 😖
