Iron horse, I have drilled oil holes in 4 stroke pistons at a 45 deg angle. In a 2 stroke what size do you drill your holes and do you drill them at an angle or just straight because in 2-stroke case we're not working with the hole catching oil splash running down the angled hole, we should be working with atomized fuel correct? Or would there be an advantage to having it angled possibly? Obviously you can't drill them where we would drill them in a 4-stroke because of the intake port. But off to the side of the port I would think would be fine and would definitely help. Also how far from the sidewall of the port opening would you recommend as a safe distance?

Harv, you know what I have to force myself to remember? Looking at how the flame moves and what airflow does sitting at the bench turning the engine over by hand as compared to 9 to 10 thousand RPM in the cut. I can visualize the speed and volume at that speed. If you think in those terms, i think you can port a saw more effectively. Is that something you agree on?

Alright the jb being used makes it easier to play with dimples in the floor how big each one is and how far apart they are. The dimples are pretty much small craters that capture fuel and as the air goes over the crater gets caught as well resulting in a circular motion sucking fuel from the craters as some stays there. That air is like the air in the bed of your truck the air that goes over that pocket of air speeds up because of the air circulation in the bed of the truck. Same result in the dimples and in a high revving engine it helps tremendously and works well. Depending the dimples depth and how much fuel it might hold it can load up on idle. I personally have not had the issue with 2 stokes just 4 strokes.
@rncboy2
3 жыл бұрын
I did forget to mention with the 2 ramps on top of the port and the dimples on the floor causes a turbulence vortec. So the fuel air mix that goes directly through the center of the intake port actually speeds up a lot.

Lighter from memory. My take is the Windows also help get the air and fuel up the transfer when piston is at bdc, especially with the epoxy in the case. Lose a wee bit of case compression but epoxy does help reverse that. Light piston also means less momentum to reverse at bdc and faster acceleration of piston from tdc. It’s all about the ying and yang give and take to maximise the effort when you want it.

The only issue we have is they can get a little lean on the bottom end when they get hot. Will they our perform a ported 371, 372? No.. but they run hard every day, do the job well, and pay the bills. No complaints here.💪

As apposed to slick shiny water, way more drag
@seancasey7090
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a small bit of chop on a planning hull gives you speed, but for different reasons than texture on the ports assisting in building power in a saw. The air introduced on the running surface reduces water drag for reasons, but it also reduces lift on the hull, but on a skiff there is huge amounts of lift… aero is no hydro, aeromarine research has some good software in the runabout side.
