I don't know what some of these people who commented expected. The specific purpose for the LT was for those who wanted luxury over performance. LT=Luxury Touring. The suspension is supposed to be soft in a car orientated for a buyer who wants more luxury than handling. If you don't like the soft ride, buy a different model. So easy.

My '74 LT with 350 ci engine came with a 4 barrel Quadrajet carb and factory dual exhaust. It also had leaf springs in the rear, not coil springs. Red with rear spoiler and black vinyl top. It was a real eye catcher. It always rode and handled great but it came with performance-type tires (Uniroyal at that time) and not the skinny things in the video. I installed a rear anti-sway bar myself ($50 factory part from dealer) and a shift kit ($50) for the auto trans and an electronic ignition (another $50) to get rid of the old-fashioned points. Easy stuff to do. It could hold its own and out perform most anything else that came out after 1973. It would chirp the tires when it shifted to 2nd gear and that ain't bad. With BF Goodrich Radial TAs and that sway bar it handled like a Corvette and I'm not kidding - near zero body lean when cornering. It cost me $4,600 new and I sold for $2,500 ten years later at 183,000 miles to a guy and his son who were anxious to get it. By the way I drove it from MD to Florida round trip with three friends and baggage in '75 to see the race at Sebring and even with air conditioning on full time it averaged 21 miles per gallon. Just sayin.' BTW did I mention it was a chick magnet?

Yeah that wasn't bad at all for 1974. I had a 73 Plymouth Duster 340-4 speed that also ran mid to high 14's if I got a good launch before I ditched the smog equipment and bolted on headers and dual glasspacks. That car was still pretty damn fast for something built in 1973. It almost seemed like the Mopar 340 wasn't de-tuned quite as much as the 440 big block. I test drove a brand new 74 Roadrunner GTX 440-4 speed and my Duster was a better performer. The 74 Duster/Dart Sport 360 were pretty quick cars too

Jeremy Thompson You must be mistaken about the 4-speed or the 440, although you said it had the GTX package. The 4-speed wasn’t available with the 440 after 1972 as it required the Dana 60 rear axle. The 400 was available with a 4-speed but that wouldn’t have been a GTX.

I got my drivers license in 1974, and wanted a new Camaro Type LT in the worst way. Yeah, that's right, I wanted the LT, not the Z28. BTW, those are not the correct wheels for a '74. They came with body colored rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. And ALL second generation Camaros used leaf springs in the rear. I didn't like the new rear window for '75, but still liked the Type LT. It was available with a half vinyl roof in '76, which I liked. Many years later, I did wind up with a '79 Camaro Berlinetta, solid white, plastic bumpers, 350TH trans, 350 four barrel engine. Not fast but looked great. After 4 years I sold it to buy a nice orange 1977 Corvette. But even after all these years, I would still love to have a '74 or '75 Camaro Type LT. marks man I mean you can't really blame a new generation of kids that were 50 years late in the game I almost feel bad for them to not experience this era or cars but there blessed to have modern handling and performance.

How the hell did they get 0-50 at 7.5 seconds, when the engine made only 145 hp??

Torque. The same reason fully loaded rigs can run 75-80 comfortably.
@1967davethewave

Honestly, if you look at dyno tests on these engines they made about 70-80hp more than rated. 225 isn't a lot but it was about the same as a '65 Mustang with a 289/4bbl. They were underrating everything during the early '70's to try and get the insurance companies off their backs.

Why didn't GM give a Z28 to Bud L.for testing? Probably because they had enough market share and thought they were invincible! I'm not sure they would do anything different today!

An amazing difference between the 71 350 2v car they tested, and this 74, in all aspects! Slower, much worse handling, weaker brakes ( though it probably weighed more) than the 71. I've heard much debate over just what the LT name meant... Some say Luxury Trim, some say Luxury Touring, some call it a Little Turd and some call it worse LOL What have you heard that package called?
