Pronounced: JAT-roh-fuh pod-AG-ree-kuh
Bulbous caudex - (cordex) trunk where it stores water in case of drought.
It’s a tropical succulent from parts of Asia and Africa and the South Americas
It likes a bright sunny spot but not too much direct sun as it may scorch the new leaves if coming through a window at midday.
Being a tropical plant it loves heat and humidity, as for watering, most succulents prefer less water and even leaving them dry for a time but this one does prefer slightly more water, not staying wet or the Caudex will rot but a regular drink so maybe once a week, unless the soil is still moist in which case leave it for a while longer until the top inch as dried out.
If you see the lower leaves turning yellow and falling off this is normal, the new leaves grow from the top to replace the lower older ones. You can take them off once they go yellow or brown.
Prefers well-drained soil so a cactus mix will be fine, or you can add some grit to your normal houseplant compost and maybe some perlite to help with the drainage.
This plant is Poisonous to animals so if you have houseplant munching pets in the house this one needs to be kept somewhere where they can’t get to or just swerve this one completely, up to you. If you are handling this plant, repotting it, just in case maybe wash your hands after or wear some gardening gloves. It would probably be fine, you’re going to be licking it or anything but it’s good to be aware of just in case.
This is a plant that can go dormant if it gets cold in the winter it may drop it’s leaves, don’t throw it away, just give it some time stop watering completely until you see some new leaves coming out from the top once again.
