Thermactor hump or bump is exactly what it is called. I ported mine out and it made a notable difference.

I really like your approach to this build. My method is flow the intake and head together and try to balance the entire length of the intake. Find the best and worst flowing ports. Get the worst flowing port as high as you can get it. The result is your target for the other 7 ports. Same principle for the exhaust ports. The closer you can get the ports, the more even the power production between the cylinders. Tuning afr is much easier and the engine will run smoother. This is particularly important on a SBF because the intake manifold runners are imbalanced, front to rear, for distributor clearance. Flowing the head by itself doesn't show the differences. I also pick a head and assign it a side. If its the left head when I port, it's always and forever the left head on the engine. I'll even go as far as flow both heads on different sides of the intake to get the match as close as possible to start.

Thanks. Your method is very thorough. I might try something like that in the future, I would have to make some upgrades to the way the head is fastened to the flow bench. Thanks again.

The most important part is the puny exhaust port. I discovered the hard way there is not much iron in the exhaust port try the straighten the port. Remember line of sight rule. Chevy valves add helps a lot.

Good to know about the exhaust port.

how do you feel about removing the valve guide boss altogether and just using a long bronze guide insert? perhaps after you finishing the initial port work? would be interesting to see how much difference (if any) it makes. Enjoy the videos...👍

I think the only things that would stop me from trying that would be the cost of installation and having never had that type of guide installed. I have had the thin wall guide inserts done but not the thick wall ones. Maybe when I start working on them, we can get a better idea if something like that would be a benefit. Glad you like the videos.
