In this video I was joined by Ross as we set out to see if you can get out and enjoy a bikepacking trip on a limited budget. We first began by acquiring a new bike. After a little searching on Facebook marketplace we found a bike that seemed ideal, a Raleigh Pioneer 120 which we believe dates from the late 90’s or early 00’s. After completing a little basic maintenance on the bike we set off on a one night trip in a nice area local to where we live. I used the new bike with a cheap bikepacking setup, and I set Ross up with all of my nice, high end, bikepacking and lightweight camping equipment that I have acquired over the years, and which make up my current bikepacking setup for long distance tours.
Over the course of the trip I assess how the cheap setup compares with the more expensive setup that I am used to, and we share our thoughts on what you need to get into bikepacking, and where best to spend your money.
