Let’s chat,
A little about the car: My husband and I decided to get a new car since our lease was due in April. After doing some research, we opted for an all-electric car. The company I work for offers electric car reimbursement up to $2000, so we used that amount as a down payment for the new lease. The money came from our "future" savings, with the promise of repayment once I received reimbursement from my job. Thankfully, the process was smooth, but I was unaware it would be taxed, leaving us with around $1500.
Explaining our "future" savings: Although my husband and I manage separate finances, we are currently pooling funds for our future plans. We reside in NYC but plan to relocate to NC in the fall or winter. While I anticipate being able to transfer jobs due to my employment with a large corporation, my husband will be returning to school to pursue a new career, resulting in a reduction in income. Our future savings will cover moving expenses, securing a new apartment, restocking our pantry and furnishing it. Any remaining funds will be allocated to a new savings category: Down Payment. Our ultimate goal is to purchase our first home after residing in NC for about a year and a half.
Thankfully, he has zero debt, and I am planning to pay off most of mine before moving so that I can use my income to help more with our expenses. We decided to combine our incomes to be able to afford the new living expenses, despite his lower salary.
