Who else loves the fact that Buffy the superhero runs into her mother's arms when she gets scared in the night?

This is such a fun episode with a great twist plus we get introduced to Snyder!

I love that you said "I robot you Jane" was a crazy episode, when you are just about to watch the Puppet show. I really like this one, but it sure is pretty wacky. I think I like the misdirect of being led to believe that the living puppet was the bad guy when he wasn't.

it's definitely an underutilized approach. it's speciesist to assume someone is evil just because they're a puppet.

I love this episode! I was really sad when Syd died. The fact that he killed the demon anyway, knowing that it would kill him too was really valiant and brave.

Best thing about this episode is our introduction to Snyder, one of the great characters in the show who has really got it in for the Scoobies straight off. Again S1 is hard going for newbies to the show, as many of the storylines are fairly weak, love the fact that you really enjoy these early episodes. You really seem to be loving this show as the Series progresses, and believe me from mid Season 2 onwards it improves leaps and bounds.

Thinking this was the maddest episode so far is a fine opinion to have. It's all personal taste, so it can't be wrong, no matter what keyboard warriors might try to enforce. I think the last one was madder for me. I personally love this episode after the twist is revealed; it's just such a fun concept having the dummy be the good guy. That being said, this is one I'd love to see Deepa react to. She'd have a blast with season 1.

This is such a great episode to watch reactions to. The reactor goes 'Ew! Creepy puppet!' and all the viewers go 'SID!! 😍😍😍😍' You might enjoy it more on re-watch when you can appreciate the story it tells and all the little flourishes, rather than be on the back foot because of all the twists. Lovely reaction though! And the rest of the season is very good. Looking forward to the next one.

It's perfectly fine to not like some episodes as much as others, we all feel that way, although we probably all have different episodes that we like more or less than others. Generally, Season 1 of Buffy can be a bit of a hit and miss sometimes. Season 2 is definitely better, especially the 2nd half of Season 2. In terms of consistency the show gets to another level in Season 3.

I love this episode. I think you just got too hung up on the puppet being the villain, even before the show ever hinted at that, that you couldn't really enjoy the twist when it came. Which is a shame as I know from your DW videos that you love a good twist. If I may be so presumptuous, I think maybe you were a bit too focussed on "reacting" (i.e. "oh here's the creepy puppet again, I better react accordingly and say something", rather than just watching and letting events play out. As I'm sure you don't speak that much when you're watching TV alone) That's not a criticism. Just an obersvation. I think it's a great twist and it's a very clever episode on rewatch because you see how everything the puppet does, which actually looked suspicious on first viewing, actually makes sense when you know the truth. But that's something you don't really appreciate until a rewatch. I've said on other reaction channels that there's a difference between a reaction video and a commentary, and that giving a running commentary doesn't necessarily make a good reaction video as people can be too focussed on speaking to really let themselves get immersed into the vibe of the episode. But it's easy to be an armchair critic. I do enjoy seeing your reactions to things and I look forward to the next one.

This is the episode where the show really starts to show what it's capable of, by subverting your expectations for the creepy puppet to be evil and then throwing another red herring at you in the form of Principal Snyder. There's weirder to come!

Another example of subverting the expected. We expect the puppet to be the monster, but nope, it is a demon slaying hero. I think this is the only time I have ever seen the puppet not be the vilain of the story.

Wierdest one yet? That's not a stretch - I think it's one of the best though. I love compariing this one with last week's episode - this is an sillier premise - but I think it succeeeds in so many ways that Me Robot, You Jane completely fails. The main thing is the level of wit in this one - it's just dripping in delicious humour - practically everything Principal Snyder says is deadpan comedy gold, Giles for the first time is shown as an anti-authority figure and more one of tha gang with his jibes about Snyder, sarcastic deadpan face when the team are made to join the show and that wonderful scene where he gaslights Cordelia. It's a completely bonkers story - and could have been the basis of a truely awful episode - but I think it's by far one of the most entertaining stories of S1.

Welcome Principal Snyder, played by the indomitable Armin Shimerman! And of course we get subtle misdirection, is he the monster of the week? No, he just doesn't want to get eaten like his liberal thinking predecessor! Sunnydale has touched and felt for the last time. Or has it?
