Like at the end when Dawn tries to touch her mum's face and it cuts to black JUST before she touches her because it's not her mother any more and she can never touch her again. Diego R. de la Rosa idk. Pipers scenes in charmed when when prue died are just as heart wrenching. I think losing a parent and losing a sibling can be some of the most traumatic experiences a person can go thru bc ultimately they are the ones that have been there your entire life. The real reason it's not fair to compare the three shows is because of their vast differences. Buffy is a show about a group of ragtag misfits coming together as a makeshift family. While Charmed and Supernatural both focus around a sibling angle (sisters and brothers respectively), how the character dynamics play out is different. The Halliwells (and now the Veras) are strong, competent women who must overcome whatever evil is thrown at them. The Winchesters go around, hunting down their evil half the time (the other half, one of them makes a colossal mistake that dooms the entire planet). Their relationship is codependent at times, but at others, it's that connection to each other that allows them to overcome the evil they seek to destroy. The three shows should never be compared. They're all wonderful in their own, unique ways.

To the best of my recollection, this is the only episode of Buffy I've only watched once. No other episode of television has had such an emotional impact on me because we lost my father only a few weeks before it aired. This scene was particularly impactful because I was the one who had to tell my mother that she was a widow. It didn't matter that my dad had been sick for a long time, that one doctor told me he was surprised that with all his health issues he was still alive. Because when I got the call he had died it was as shocking to me as it was for Buffy when she found Joyce. I suppose part of the impact was because I had sat down to watch one of my favorite TV shows. But the normally lighthearted Buffy the Vampire Slayer had suddenly morphed into one of those "very special episodes" of Mash without a laugh track. It was unquestionably one of the best episodes of not just Buffy, but of any television series. But I only watched it once for much the same reason I only watched Roberto Benigni's Holocaust comedy Life is Beautiful once. I never had any desire to watch it again.

@ChannelReuploads9451

Maybe not a Blooper.........., We know Dawn was a product of powerful magic (Monks created her to hide Glory's key) and changed reality to hide her, perhaps the extreme emotions of the loss of her perceived mother actually changed reality slightly, hence the scene focusing on the painting at the end. Buffy had to use powerful magic to find out who Dawn was, the part where Buffy was walking around the house, and in all the pictures, Dawn was phasing in and out of the pictures, and when she saw Dawn in person, she too was phasing in and out (From the effects of the spell Buffy used). The spell was initially used to help find out what was making Joyce ill, but it had a side effect of revealing the Monk's Illusion spell. Then there was also the time, Joyce momentarily fell out of the monks spell, and Joyce saw dawn and said "Who are you ?"

i’ve always loved this episode, but it hits so different now that i’ve been through something similar. i found out one of my childhood friends died when was in class one day and the shock of it was impossible to explain. poor dawn
