Any time we picnic or just hanging outside, I always bring along a box fan and point it towards the area of seating. Turn it on high. Keep most of the flies and mosquitoes away. They hate the wind. Helps keep you cool too!

We've had a clam for about 2 years and we love it. So easy to set up and take down. I wouldn't worry about a center pole. We've had ours out in a lot of rain, and never had a problem with the roof caving in. We also got a nice light that hangs from the center.

Thank's for this informative video and thanks for helping us make up our mind on which Clam to buy. Was leaning toward the Pavilion model which is the one in your video but your comments on how hot it got because of the roof pushed us to get the Escape Sky which comes with a netted roof that can be covered with a water resistant cover if needed. Also ordered the removable floor. Camp mostly in Texas where it's hot and have plenty of insects. Watched other videos and you're not the only one to mention how much heat came in through the roof. THANK YOU AND HAPPY CAMPING!

I have a colman bug room. Not as nice as yours. It gets unbearably hot in them. I use an oscillating fan inside mine and it seems to force the hot air out and allows the outside air in. I run the fan off a 200w inverter off my RV batteries.Works great.Hope to see you out on the road someday. Best wishes Mel

We got the clam about 4-5 years ago. The one you have was not out at that time. I use a tarp for a floor. And the panels were not permanently attached. I bought two sets of panels just in case. It held up very well. In the wind you must tie out the center. Strong wind that is. I think i tied down the center twice in four years. Mine is about 72" long and 34# I carry it in the center floor of my scamp. With all the panels up and if it is hot, the breeze if any is slowed with the no se um screen. We use a fan which helps. What bugs get in are attracted to the light/sky at the ceiling . Good luck.

We recently purchased a smaller version Clam than what you're reviewing but with only the screen walls (no window walls). We tested it out at home and then took it to an RV campground for a few days. It's easy and quick to set up/pack up and weighs only 26 lbs. if I remember correctly. I'm able to do it alone. It's not as long as the 81" you mentioned either but the inside height was adequate/comfortable for us. I recommend using the tie-down ropes and tent pegs included as it did blow over during a thunderstorm without them. Cost was about $200.

I have the camouflage version without floor. Looks the best. I spray the top of my roof with kiwi camp dry heavy duty water repellent. If you aren’t going to open the walls highly suggest any fan that moves a lot of air without taking up but a small room.

We just got back from a 5 day camping trip and as you know in Florida bugs are horrible. We set up our screen room and the first night there were bugs all over the screens ( most on the outside). I thought I would try Sawyer Products SP657 Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent, and sprayed the screen room with it. The rest of our trip we did not see one bug on or in the room (even while eating). Can't wait to see if it lasts 6 months like they say. Our next trip will also be in Florida in August for a 50th Anniversary Woodstock Festival.

I had the add a room on my camper we were at the beach with rain and 40 mile an hour wind gusts we lowered the owning as low as we could and pulled the truck in front of the awning and tied downs with Rachel straps to the truck we lowered all the flaps left the camper door open and we didn’t have a problem I don’t know how that would work with the flimsy new awnings I had one of the old manual awnings. Well my kids played out in that add a room all day. No problem 😉

Great review of the Quick set by Clam. I own the Escape model (2 of them). I never knew about them & caught a crazy clearance on them & paid under $100 for both in the brown-what a score. I also own the Shelterlogic canopies for a table, have 2 in the older version & new tilted one. Had an issue with the fabric not reaching the end to velcro to the pole, called the company, sent them pictures & they sent me 2 new ones (newer versions). I'm about to order the wall panels for them to be complete. Not sure if there is a rain fly for the Escape model, if so will get that too. Happy travels.

So what I’ve read is these model canopies because of the tight mesh it gets very hot inside. You mentioned it was a little warm but after using it what was your experience with the heat?
@Rvdaydream

Pretty much every canopy out there has microstyle weaving to allow water to shut off of it even our old 10 x 10 King Canopy is the same way so I don't believe it's because of airflow of the mesh I believe that it's just the transparency of the roof and having a large area that is being exposed to non-reflective Sun. The good news is this canopy has so many windows in it that even if there's the slightest Breeze and you open all the windows you get good airflow through it and you can adjust it accordingly by opening just the windows that are needed. The other thing I've seen people do is like myself by the rain fly but something I haven't tried yet is they put reflective material between the rain fly and the roof and they say it cools it down drastically. What I mean is one of those inexpensive solar blankets that you see emergency crews use that's like a chrome or gold chrome style blanket it's not really a blanket it's just some sort of plastic. Anyways right now nobody else is offering anything even close to this that pops up so easily cover such a large area. It's really hard to show on camera but you really could get inside there with a few people and feel like you're still social distancing, LOL I guess that's a consideration now. I still think it's too heavy without having a roller bag other than that that's been perfect. My wife wants to treat the rain fly with some sort of Scotchgard but I don't see why the water runs off really well with the rain fly I think she just likes to go overboard.

@@Rvdaydream Hi, do you have any photos or links talking more about the reflective material you mentioned and how to install it. Also, how do you still like your clam, would it be ok in 85 plus degree hot days and out on a beach to prevent deer flies and sun protection. I hope the air flow would be ok and not stopped by the mesh. thanks
@Rvdaydream
4 жыл бұрын
@@Lampofilm we love the clam, the breeze on the beach should be able to keep you cool with no problem. It definitely stops the insects. The breeze that comes through it of course isn't as strong as it would be if it was just open air. The reflective material is some sort of a solar blanket or you could use reflectix that can be found at Lowe's in large rolls. It would take a little bit of creativity and foil tape or even duct tape to cut it to the size and shape needed but would probably do a very good job and cutting down the heat as the roof is dark and still allows light transmission I know that seems counterintuitive but it's translucent to a certain extent and it will heat up the inside of the clam. Again, wheel of the clam it is our go to shelter or daily events. If you decide you would like to try it out please make sure to use the links in the description of the video to help support the channel and more videos to be posted. Thanks
