I don't know why you don't have more subs...this is a fully legit BOV build, I'm loving it bro. K5 is one of my favorites from that time period. Cool that you have a shop to do that work in and the skill sets. If you were paying for a custom job, it would easily cost you 30k
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother, I have been working on it for awhile, it is starting to really take shape!!! Yes, the shop took me 7 years to build from ground up, it is my second home. I am about 14k into this build. Of course the engine was the main cost, but if I was to buy a new rig capable of what this rig could do... It would be 50k... Hope to have it on the road this summer... we will see, thanks for coming by my friend!! atb Todd

Great work on the blazer. Some advice with the radios. the fan will probably create noise in the radios when it's running.. some filtering will cure that. Each radio has a ground lug on its back plate. Rub a ground strap from the radios ground lug, to the radio rack, and the radio rack to the frame of the blazer. You're gonna have three different antennas up top. Just keep them far enough apart. that's it. looking forward to your next one 👍
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have the radio's grounded to the frame ground, and I haven't had a problem with the fan yet, it is a computer 2 1/2 inch cooling fan, with grounding. I will do more testing and see if I get interference. I have two 102" CB/10 meter antennas separated in the rear to make more of a directional, forward more rear (testing) HAM over cab for ground plan and FRS/GMRS in the front left fender. Plenty of separation, but haven't tested yet. I also have a military Cobra dipole antenna for base camp use. I do not have the depth of knowledge as you, so if you see anything I can do better, PLEASE let me know my friend..!

Nice BOV, I have been following this project from the beginning. You said you are upgrading to a 150 a alternator, I have been considering an auxiliary alternator for the high load circuits. What do you think? Nice work, keep the vids coming. Al
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the support!!! Really appreciate it!! Yes, I went with a 150 AMP Marine alternator to power the whole system. Two alternators would also work if you have the room. I have seen kits out there to add a second. I also thought about going with a serpentine belt, but it cost a lot for the pulleys... Thanks for watching!!!

Too many folks underestimate the usefulness of a quality CB radio. Nearly truck driver on the road has one, and they can be very useful for getting info such as traffic jams and police speed traps(And Checkpoints!). "Smokey" or "Bear" looking for "customers" is code for a radar trap. "Gators" are shredded tires in traffic lanes that may cause crashes. Learn the professional "drivers" codes. They simply refer to themselves as "drivers". Non 18 wheel vehicles are simply "4-wheelers". Do you know a guy out there in Oregon that goes by "419 Oregon"? I have made contact with him a couple times on channel 38 lower sideband(27.385lsb) from my Honda Accord w/ Wilson 1000 antenna(I have a "box"). I remember him because I used to go by 419 Wisconsin.
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
Right on, and you are right... I added the CB because there are still a lot of user's, or people that will only have access to these type radio's. I have to get back into it and start talking once I get her on the road. I have one in the other rig, but haven't really used it much. But, a CB has it's uses for sure!! Never heard of 419 Oregon yet... Thanks for stopping by!!!

Hello mate, the blazer is looking great, i like the old blazers, so much better than modern flimsy junk, of course...i still love my landrovers haha, the radio kit looks good, i heard you say the master switch cuts all power to the radios, do you have a constant live to keep the memory channels up, other wise all your presets on the ham radio etc will vanish once the system powers down, and youll have to re programme them each time, but apart from that, looks great, i think its about time you hired me so i can move down there and get involved with cosn full time haha, cheers buddy and happy new years
@CentralOregonSurvival

Yes, I like the old stuff, and it is fun to work on!!! No, don't need the memory wire, the HAM has an internal battery and stores all my fills without power. Very nice man. Have you thought about Rhino lining the outside and other volatile areas? It's something i am considering. The master power box is genius. Also, on the radios. I thought about using positional radios so I could leave them both on. I could identify which radio was squawking from the location in vehicle. left-right-front-back etc. Think that's a bad idea?
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I have thought of doing the lower sides of the Blazer with Rhino liner, but don't know yet... Positional radios? Or do you mean directional? Thanks for watching!! atb Todd

Sorry I didn't say that right. Positional Speakers. for the radios. Like left speaker is GMRS, right is CB, rear is HAM etc.
@CentralOregonSurvival
7 жыл бұрын
You could do it that way, like are SAR vehicles have a bunch of speakers for the radios, I find this confusing at times and distracting. If I am monitoring police, SAR, fire, etc... I uses my HAM radio. If I am out in the wilderness, I switch back and forth between the CB and FRS for scan looking for civilian traffic.

I love the K-5. But don't you think parts for it are going to be a little hard to find during an apocalypse? I'm just saying it's a rare vehicle and there aren't that many of them left on the road. I went with a 96 Cherokee. 2ND most common vehicle on U.S. streets. Mine has bullet proof plates throughout the vehicles door and body panels. I removed the rear window systems and used the bullet resistant glass from a bank I remodeled 2 years ago. It also has 360 degree night vision cameras and EMP resistant wiring harnesses. I got them from a military auction. I'm currently installing a sunroof/slash pop up shielding from the bank glass I have left at the rear of the vehicles roof for defensive and scouting purposes. I have a back up power system that doesn't drain own the Jeeps primary wiring system but I keep over heating the cooling fans and can't fucking figure it out. Any suggestions. I.ve tried everything I know to do. When the system is in use it's fine but when I switch back to the main power it overheats the fans and there not even on the same power source.

Now that is a comment!!! Awesome... On my side of the county we have tons of old chevy's. A lot of farmers still have old trucks, use suspension or external parts, also external engine parts as well. So, you are right, old vehicle, but still have parts available. Plus, I have made it very simple, tough, and homemade parts that are over engineered. I really like the selection you have chosen, I have had a couple Jeep Cherokee's, hated the interior!!! But solid rig... You have created an awesome rig, the suspension can handle that much weight!!! Wow... I worked on up-armored HUMMV and there armor kits destroyed the suspension. So you are talking about your cooling fan for your electronics? Fan for the inverted? Need the spec's in the fan and size wire going to it? Let me know, thanks for coming by brother, love to see that rig you are talking about!!
