I saw one today. Has to be a '48 sedan hardtop Super 8 with ALL the bells and whistles - driver's side spotlight, fog lights, what looked to be read side mounted reflector or actual lights on the rear panels, white wall tires, moon hubs, chrome everything. It was a rolling work of art. I can't even imagine what that world looked like where all the cars were behemoths that really didn't last all that long for all the work that had to have gone into producing them -- when America was its own producer of the raw materials, steel mills, rubber factories, textile mills, chrome operations -- and if one hit 100,000 miles, it was pretty much spent as I recall. What a wonderful sight to behold on this dank, rainy day where I reside.

The Buick Super Eight is a stunning car that owns the road, even today. Thank you for making this video. I actually came to this video because I just watched ABBA sing "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and Bjorn Ulvaeus is wearing a jacket that says Buick Eight on the back of it. If I remember correctly, Ulvaeus means "of the wolf", The Buick Super Eight is also of the wolf!!

The last paint job it got is really a pretty black but it has just the slightest hint of red in the black paint that it is almost the darkest maroon I have ever seen it is a very dark oxblood more than anything else I can think of. One of the best tinted black colors I have ever seen. Nice car. I have done this old, old trick a couple of times. A gun metal grey is another really good candidate to tint. That started in the late 40s when people were beginning to get some pretty good painting equipment inexpensively as far as quality goes.

Cadillac & Oldsmobile each had their own, individually developed motor. . I The 49 Olds DID NOT have a Cadillac V8 in it. I don't know where that misconception came from, but I have known for as long as I've been a gearhead that Cadillac and Olds DID NOT share a motor. The Cad was a 190HP 354CID VS 135HP 303CID for the Olds, but the Olds motor was the heavier of the two by 20lbs.
