I'm using this video to help me work on my existing weather app using TypeScript and ReactJS. I'm a TypeScript newbie but I come from a Java background. The big difference in my app is I have a NodeJS server that the app talks to with an initial request. The server performs the request to the weather service then responds to the initial request completely hiding my API key. I think I saw a video where you did something similar if I'm not mistaken that got me started with the NodeJS server.

Yeah that’s a great way to hide some credentials and sensitive data! It’s always good to check the docs if the api key can be public or not. But I don’t think I’ve done a nodejs code along 🤔 though sounds like a good idea 😁

@@danascript I plan on having hourly and daily forecasts on their own page so I had to go up one tier. Once I'm finished these will be some good projects to put on my portfolio. I still have a lot to learn about NodeJS, TypeScript, and React. Most of my professional back-end work is on the LEMP stack.

Amazing tutorial. Just went through React, React Advanced and TypeScript in the recent months and kinda confused still. Started the Weather app to my portfolio page as my first React+TS app on my own but got lost many times. Really enjoyed the video. Liked the teaching style, the explanation and that you didn't waste too much on the CSS(I always do but I'm gonna be simplifying the design and maybe even use some design material like MUI, Ant Design even though I love Tailwind). Love how you split the code and created all the types, I can really see what makes you a Senior. If can ask for another project I say some project which includes a bit more authentication with Login(admin, member, guest), Registration form(since forms a bit more complicated in React would make a great project), local storage, useContect(useMemo)+ useReducer or Redux. Also would be great to add more Senior comments and best practices, that can also be an other video, I just love React and can't wait to be much better at it. I also love hearing and seeing best practices which can highly improve the coding experience.

Thank you so so so much for taking the time to write this 🙏 Appreciate all the feedback and really glad to hear you've enjoyed the tutorial! It'll take me some time to prepare something on a bigger scale but I definitely want to do it and I think it can be a lot of fun and it has potential to include many hidden little things to learn along the way, so I'll be exploring that soon 🙃

Aawh thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I increased the font size with CMD and + (i'm using a mac), but it would be the same combination for zooming in/increasing a web page, you just need to make sure you're selecting the inspector/console, for example by clicking in it. Hope this helps!

A wonderful tutorial, i'm refactoring your project to another and figuring out how to filter a fetch nested data in SearchForm.tsx file and setting the filtered data to the main STATE. can you give me some hint please?
@danascript
Жыл бұрын
You could extend the custom hook with a function that does that filtering or one that is setting data to the state while the filtering happens in the search form component and then calls that new function with the data to set.

Hi Dana! thank you so much for the tutorial! i really got used to code everything in js but ts is quite useful to know Do you know any platform such project can be deployed on? tried vercel and netlify and getting errors about mixed content... thank you
@danascript
Жыл бұрын
Heeey Anastasia! Thank you so much 🤗 indeed, getting to know TypeScript in the current world can only be a plus 🙃As to the deployment - I can recommend Vercel and I've just tried to deploy it there myself and saw the error you've had too! So, the solution would be to use "https" in the links where we're calling the API (we're using "http" at the moment and on localhost it didn't matter so that's why we didn't get an error while developing it), in the tutorial's repo it would be in 2 places - Forecast.tsx and useForecast.ts. And don't forget to add your REACT_APP_API_KEY with its value to the environment variables in Vercel (or any other hosting service, but in Vercel it's under Settings). Hope it'll work now! 🌟

terrible tutorial. main problem is writing whole component and then copy pasting in one single file. in react, complexed components are also made by other smaller components . and instead of doing that, you just writing whole component in single file. i was following that video and stopped in the middle of it.
@danascript

Hey, I think if you would’ve watched until the end or checked the finished result files on github then maybe it would’ve been closer to the desired approach? Regardless, in coding there are multiple ways of approaching things and having different solutions, I never preach that what I show is the one and only so I agree with you that there are multiple other ways to go about it! And I always encourage people to push themselves and refactor the code to try out different things. Thanks for checking it out though!
