Nice Yorky. I like the look of that Odroid Go Advance too. How are you liking it? Any shortcomings other than the not wireless charging that you upgraded? I had a few things I was working on too, but had to take a break from it for a while. I’ve ben spending some time trying to learn to program a little. Well, I’m spending a lot of time learning but still at the point of not accomplishing much, but for some reason it’s really fun. Have you done any programming?

Great build series! These builds are getting more and more refined and clean looking. I honestly am not a big fan of the slider analog sticks, the smallest ones I have used that I like are on the GPD Win... although I dont like that the GPD does not have L3&R3. All that being said, this build with the sliders looks so clean. This thing must pack so well. The deck height of the sticks vs the bottons and the rest of the build must be very minimal. Well done indeed. If you want portable and tiny I would almost want to see you try out a clamshell design like a GBA SP or a GPD style unit. Or... maybe you go big and mod a Wii u gamepad with a better screen and a full raspberry pi 3 board.

Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean all around. My next build will have the Joy Cons again. I do like the idea of a clamshell or a bigger design with a bigger screen. I’ve also wanted to mess with more powerful boards for a while. Hopefully I can get more time on my hands soon. My DMG Pi3 Boy build used a stripped down Pi 3. What tools do you need to spray paint? Also, what exactly are you spray painting? Would a magic marker work?
@jivinhipcat
5 жыл бұрын
ohdaUtube I just spray paint directly on the glass after cleaning it and taping up the screen area so only the bezel area is uncovered. I scratch away the paint, use a little acetone to help, and then clean it with alcohol. I doubt markers will work because I bet light will shine through, but I haven’t tried, and maybe some markers are able to be used. I’m not sure. You could always try and if it is no good you can just clean off the glass and try again.

@@jivinhipcat how did you end up figuring out the dimensions on the screen to draw? I feel that's probably really important
@jivinhipcat
5 жыл бұрын
ohdaUtube haha it sounds like you want to get this right the first time :) . So I tape up both the front and back completely. Then I put the screen in place just holding it in position (it helps if you have between 3 and 4 hands). Now I put the tape covered glass in place. With the screen and tap covered glass in place you can use a ruler or other straight edge to mark the exact screen area on the tape. Just draw on the tape with a marker. Now you ha the bezel area. So you cut on those lines and remove the tape that is on the bezel area. Now you have exposed bezel areas and covered everything else. Paint away :)

@@jivinhipcat awesome! So if running full screen, sounds like the entire LCD is used. What spray paint would you recommend for spray painting? Never done that before. Any brand works? The build looks great. I definitely needed to see how you did the glass screen. Do you think there is a way to change the power LED out? I have a all black build that I want to upgrade incrementally and I think a purple LED would look good with it.

@@OnyxAnimosity Before this you may need to take a look at there resistors also, values require change from one color to another. eBay is a simple place to source the LEDs and resistors, these used are 0603 SMD format. Aside of this, purple is pretty near UV wavelength, so it can look great but dangerous of your eyes (low power but long exposure) and damage ABS plastic.

Hi Eric, I definitely know what you mean. I don’t really have a good list though. Usually I’m searching for deals on eBay and then waiting FOREVER for the parts to come in. When I bought the 3DS sticks I found a good deal auction and bought 5 for around $20. When I find a good deal I buy a little extra too that way I can afford to break things messing around and won’t have to wait FOREVER again for new parts. I like www.adafruit.com/ for some things. On my Pocket build I broke the CM3+ (actually 2) trying to mod it to fit, so I bought a couple more from Adafruit. They have always been a cool place. When I buy from them I usually look around and see what other stuff they are selling and toss in a few little things to test. So this time I bought some different kinds of switches that look really cool. Not sure what I’ll do with them yet though. Amazon sometimes if I need a normal thing quickly, which isn’t often. Alibaba and Aliexpress I’m less familiar with. I’ve purchased a couple times from those and have had good luck, but I don’t know a lot about them still. So, shopping around unfortunately is all I have for ideas there. I don’t really mind doing it that way because it can also be helpful. Sometimes while I’m looking around I stumble on other parts and things that look interesting and I may get new ideas or see things I never knew about. Actually, that happens a lot because I really don’t know what I’m doing for the most part. I’ve been just trying things and they seem to be working a lot of the time so far :)

Good news is, I got it assembled. Bad news is, it seems the front cover needs to be cut to show full screen? How did you do that part? Is there a video I'm missing?
@jivinhipcat
5 жыл бұрын
Woohoo! The plastic shell at the screen opening is fit perfectly for the GBA screen size, so it will need trimming. I think more and more people are doing the full screen mod now, but before I think it was normal to just go with the default GBA size. I show trimming one on an older build here kzitem.info/news/bejne/kXh8vmqMoICVpYo . Nothing real fancy about doing it other than being careful not too do too much. Better to go slowly and leave as much of the plastic as possible because it helps block the light. If you cut too much, the glass will probably still adhere fine and look fine, but you may get light bleed around the edges. That happened to me before and I had to pop off the glass and add some material along the edges of the screen housing to black the light. So, everything working well and all that other than the screen opening size for the full screen mod?

@@jivinhipcat I've figured out how to get the software side to work. It really only does come down to the front cover and LCD for full screen. Sounds like I also need to cut more from the 4 button side on the right to center the screen. Do you flash the screen while directly on top of the case to draw the lines for cutting?
@jivinhipcat
5 жыл бұрын
I do turn on the screen to see the outline perfectly. Also, there is a way to modify the screen itself to help with centering. You can very carefully trim tiny bit of the white plastic from the ribbon cable connector side of the screen. This is pretty delicate though, and you can end up with a broken screen if you make a mistake. I’d hate to hear that you have everything working well and then accidentally crack the screen or something :) . You can trim up some of the plastic around the buttons like you said to help center the screen. Just be careful not to trim too much so that the silicon pads have a messed up surface to rest on and interact with. I’m glad you’re getting it all set up and everything! I know that feels good. I can’t wait to be there in my current build. Soon.

No, for me it feels better. It may be kind of like going from a full controller like an Xbox controller to something similar to an SNES controller like the 8bitdo dual analog controller. The 8bitdo SNES controller is much thinner, but still comfortable. That may not be the best analogy, but you know what I mean.

Are you having any software issues, or just curious about the video?
