Wonderful advice sir! I've been preaching this for a while. I started with a wood rig and a broken computer chair, built one out of scrap steel and mig wire, and now i built an aluminum rig with the seat from the race car; which has an added bonus. The seat has a provision for a brace to be tied in with the roll cage, so i put a swivel caster there, along with two casters on the back of the rig so that if the rig is tipped up so the back of the seat is on the floor, it can be pushed away and put in a closet whenever i need the room!

I partly agree in that the cheap rigs are super uncomfortable. I have a memory foam seat pad and use a soft cylindrical pillow as a lumbar support. I do have load cell pedals and although they are connected to the rig, the portion of the rig they are mounted to is flat on the floor. I've never noticed significant movement but perhaps I'm missing something. Lastly, I have a wife and three kids that use the movie room that I race in. They readily tolerate my folded up rig that sits in the corner, but would be unhappy with a big rig that takes up the middle of the room. I think Im in a similar situation to most online racers. We have to compromise.

I'm a new Sim racer. I bought ACC and started on a controller. I got HOOKED, as we do and decided to buy a rig. Do to lack of space, did some looking around and bought the Next Level GT Lite Foldable Cockpit and the entry level Logitech G923 wheel and pedals.. It will be a year old in July and it's been great. Not one problem with the cockpit at all. So for folks that are just starting out, and if you don't have a lot of space, I highly recommend it. I agree that for belt driven and more intermediate gear, I will need a more rigid rig. I've actually got a place for it now so, upgrades coming. For now, this equipment is fine. You have helped me and others "Big Time", to understand setups and how they effect the cars in ACC. So Thank You for a superb channel.👍🏁🍻

I have had the play seat challenge for 5 years. Perfect if you don’t have space for fixed rig. But you are right they do flex and the pedals can move without modifications. Recently discovered assetto corsa competizione and now looking at converting roof space into gaming room and making a custom built rig and new setup

I've welded mine with letal scraps, coupled with a cheap gaming chair (80€). Cost me almost nothing. Gear is Logitech 920 (180€ second hand) with trustmaster tlcm pedals (180€ on Amazon), old 46 inch lcd tv (from 2008) with 2 cheap 27" put vertically on each side (200€ each) for a 150 cm wide screen total. 4 bass shaker with 2 mini amp : 2x50w bass shaker, one under seat, one under pedal plate (road vibrations and bumpers, wheel slip, wheel lock). 2x15w, one tied to accel (tc vibrations) and one on the brake (abs vibrations) total 200€ on Amazon). I started playing end of December, and got my lfm license yesterday thanks to your AMR setup. Saving now to upgrade over time for a simagic mini with their new cheap wheel (tlcm are perfect, i won't change them). Later on a 55 4k lg tv, and last will i buy a new rig, but it is clearly not a priority. Cheers !

Measure twice cut once. I got lucky when I started, as a UK seller made a price mistake online, and I bought a T150 for £40…( which I later sold , used for double+ the price) I now have the Fanatec dd and v3 pedals..very happy with this kit.❤

Awesome video. I built a pine rig - a bit less-sturdy than yours, but still did the job - a few years back. I can heartily recommend your design, which mirrored mine. Simple, but ultra effective, well up to handling the torque forces of most direct drives. I've downloaded your plans, just in case! Thankyou.

For anyone is the US that wants inch dimensions: Beam 1: 55 1/8" Beam 2: 23 5/8" Beam 3: 26 3/8" Beam 4: 16 1/8" You can make it with 5x 8ft 2x4s. Be picky about straightness when you go to the store and it'll save you a lot of time and frustration.

I use the motedis alu rig, which was quite cheap before the corona-time, now it is around 400 € with the tripple setup. My seat is a 2nd-hand original BMW (70 €), which can be adapted in all directions and height, including an variable extension for the upper leg.

Bro! My rig is absolutely fantastic its literally rock solid. Ive spent literally like 50 bucks on lumber from lowes, i do construction so luckily i have a dope drill set. Building it was fun as fuck too! You get it to you EXACT specs. If you have a gaming chair or office chair, you can just unscrew it and drill right into it they are made out of wood! I wish i could post pics.

For now my setup is on a wheelstand with some sort of loadcell and a deskchair with rubbers under the wheels for 2 years now. I got alot of flex indeed, but it works well for me now and i enjoy simracing. Hopefully this year i got myself a real rig. I got the space for it, but its expensive and a complaining wife sometimes 😂

This advise is basically saying spend €2,000 at least or don’t bother sim racing. I spent £200 on a used G29 and a folding sim rig (like Playseat but cheaper). Played on PS4 before moving to PS5 at Christmas. I don’t have the space for a permanent rig so a folding one is my only option for a wheel. I disagree with never. For me if I didn’t have a folding chair I’d be controller only. Also, what if you spend €2,000+ on a PC, DD wheel, loadcell pedals and then discover you don’t have the time to play or find it’s not as enjoyable as you expected. Appreciate the cut list, but this advice is only valid if you have the space to make it work and €2,000+ to spend to see if you like a hobby.

€2000 at least? I think the argument is plain and simple. Buy or build your own sturdy rig. And buy load cell/DD. I think this can be done for under €650… AC or Rfactor can run on almost every modern laptop/pc so you don’t need expensive stuff for that either, probably already have something that would run those games…

Step 1. Buy 500 bucks of woodworking tools or learn to weld and buy a bunch of metal. Step 2. Spend a few grand on upper branded simulator gear. Step 3. Have enough room to have a simrig. Step 4. If you have enough room for simrig, experience the frustration of craftsmanship as you are going to mess up a cut here or drill a wrong hole there and may have to redo that entire piece of rig. Step 5. If you are able to get simrig put together, you (A) rage at it not fitting you properly and now you have to start all over, or (B) rage because the equipment you bought doesn't fit in your rig. Step 6. Proceed to boot up game and spend the next 30 minutes to 6 hours trying to get the wheel and pedal settings right. Step 7. Join a race, and rage because someone got too close to your fender.

Terrible advice. To some people, those prices are out of the question. Its go cheap or not at all, or go foldable or not at all. I have a playseat challenge because there is nowhere to put a static rig, so it works.

Its a nice advice but you can not put such a wooden rig in your living room, it just looks ugly as hell. So the only way to go for me is a ready to race sim rig and a more lighter one. I also dont own a gaming PC, so most of the advices are for people with extra gaming "rooms" and gaming PCs.

This doesn't seem like really great advise to me. I think the best, the cheapest and the easiest way to start and find out if this hobby is for you, actually is to do buy one of those cheap rigs and a cheap set of wheel and pedals to go with it, but second hand tho. Unlike you think, they don't loose any value at all, while a crappy ass self build wooden rig is a waste of money and time, you will never get back. I do like your rig tho. That probably wasn't cheap.
@amazingzone8659

it's only crappy if you build it crappy. a wooden rig that is built right will be just as strong and sturdy as the expensive rigs. yes it takes some design and building skills to make, but if you get it right it'll be just as good as a metal rig

Yeah I agree. I started with a Wheel stand an a G29. Sold the wheel stand at a minimal los (like 20 euros) and bought a Playseat Challenge. After a while I sold the G29 and pedals and bought a CSL Elite with V3 pedals. Did some small adjustments to the Challenge to make it work with the V3 pedals. Yeah it had to much flex, but I could fold it up and hide it which was a good option at the time. After a while my wife allowed me to have a permanent spot in the house and ofcourse moved to an aluminium profile rig. But the Challenge is not bad for what it does at the price. Another thing Arnout and I are very lucky about is that we live in a country where everybody wants to be Max Verstappen. Selling Sim gear is super easy over here.

That would depend on your ability's. I built a nice wood rig in about 4 hours after work for about $25. Ten years later it is still holding up well.
