I like that extra attention to detail like piston ring gap. That's what makes engine extra reliable.

Its surprising how many 4G63 motors are used in Clark, Komatsu (and of corse) Mitsubishi forklifts. The three biggest differences are that the industrial 4G63's use dual counter-balance shafts instead of a single, a single overhead cam instead of DOHC's (and of course) aren't turbocharged. They are tough little motors.

when you published this vid i was 16 worked at whataburger and had dreams of a gsx, i eventualy bought a 97 gst a year later. had it for three years then sold it. i see the publish date and its crazy how time flies by so fast, im turning 26 on november and i recently bought a 99 gst spyder in search of a gsx i have failed to purchase a gsx but thought i might start with something then i will eventually find a gsx within my budget and swap parts over..

I build mitsu 4g63 motors that make over 1000 WHP. This build is fine! I assume the block was machined properly, and the ring gap was already set prior to the video.

The only bearing I've hear that you don't directly touch are tri-metal bearings. Most modern bearing it doesn't matter. My only gripe on the whole thing that I saw was that the hear and crank bolts weren't incrementally tightened... looks like they were just torqued in one go.

Great video, I love how you know all the procedures that go into overhauling the engine. As a fellow 4G63 owner, I'd be interested in knowing how long it really took you to build the engine, because let's not kid ourselves here, There's no way anything could build that work of art in 10 minutes.

the ring end gaps should be ground from the outside in preventing a bur from forming on the outside of the ring or damaging the coating on the outside of the ring/s.
@Epix182
16 жыл бұрын
As long as you have all your parts and specs ready to go it only takes about 2 hours to assemble a bare motor with have everything torqued down to spec. Maybe 3 if you have to file the rings if piston ring end gap is incorrect.

I would have thought the same thing, that's part of taking the time to do things the right way, although atleast he torqued them in the right sequence. It's still an impressive build, if it only lasts him a week, he still has the satisfaction that he built it on his own right?

@rambow70 Also if you do commit to any work, also get a good repair manual to help you along. Haynes or Chiltons are major names. The main thing with rebuilding is to make sure you understand and put it in right. Even if it takes more time to recheck and double recheck everything, its worth it.

What is that "LUBE" in the red container he is putting on the bearings? Im about to put my block back together (4G64 DOHC) and dont want to fuck it up and the the spray he is using for the gaske? if you buy a gs, it will not have the 4g63 motor shown in this vid... it still has a 2.0l 4, but it is not anywhere near as responsive to turbocharging. If you wish to do a swap, it will be extremely time consuming and very pricey. a new 4g63 costs around 2 grand, and then throw in another grand for a turbo and wastegate, and yet another 5-800 dollars for a tranny. If you arent mechanically inclined, throw in several thousand in labor... so all said and done, it would cost $4000-6000
