You broke rule number one when welding frame. Never do a full vertical weld. You need fish plate support over it and you should have staggered your cut.

You’re wrong. It is an old myth that keeps getting propagated by misinformed gear heads (probably the same crew that talks about back pressure being necessary). Go talk to an engineer who will whip out Mohr’s circle and show you the data if you care about actual facts. If you don’t care about facts, you do you.

You're right in this case it's a piece of cake on what you're doing the big challenges is setting up some body mounts for whatever you want to put on it. Getting it to sit properly the height you want and then hooking up the hardware

@@josephhaase9452 that’s not the point. It was welded incorrectly. That type of joint in that area isn’t strong and could fail. I have seen bad clip jobs where the car ripped in half because of the horrible way they put it together.

Should have cut the frame at a 45 degree on one side and 45 degree going opposite way on the other side of the frame. Helps keep the frame from twisting under torque. Yeah I seen you boxed it. Still do that. But cut 45 it’s so much stronger

Definitely would've made piece extend further beyond the seams for greater rigidity. That's going to sag for sure.

Yeah, I would make it overlap the existing frame by at least a foot in either direction. I'm not a structural engineer, but that doesn't look right to me.

Had a plan to stretch the frame on my old ranger long bed reg cab to a extended cab long bed. Plus the extra length gives me room for a custom fuel tank and air tanks under the bed.

Nothing should be scary with knowledge,knowing mbm and cross section modulus with frames is important. Implementing an angle or step cut and (sometimes) fish plates when stretching or shortening is a good idea and of corse lots of the proper prep work to ensure your frame is straight.

Improper way to stretch a frame always do long angles it gives a larger welding point so the frame is much stronger in the end hotroding with this frame will look like a Ford truck bent in half

Well, depending on the motor, you may have just ruined it by using a boxed piece instead of c channel considering frame torsion is a factor in doing a frame on a car. You may as well just slap a 4 cylinder economy motor in there now.

If I had me a camera and knew how to upload my daily driver Xterra would be Titan swapped, sasd, doublelocked with a supercharged VQ56 by lunch time tomorrow. Nah I'd get on to Diesel pump UK to send me one of them kits and Turbo OM606 it like their Patrol. And if I invest in a Mic for good sound quality, rear steer. KZitem makes everything possible. Turning my work van into a Unimog with a tiny house to pull a hotrodded Samurai or X-90 will be for next week.

Now. If you wanted to do an actual professional looking job you would have added a piece of 1/4” plate to all sides and welded that in too and ground the outer welds down. That way it’s flush the length of the stretch and looks factory.

Is this allowed in America? In UK you'd have send plans in for reviewing and then have a method statement accepted. The finished work would then be inspected by vehicle licencing. Prohibitively expensive.😮

Please tell me you are going to brace that with some fish plates! Vertical welds are horrible ideas on a frame. Zero flex. You will have cracking issues. Also putting box tube into a c frame also causes a stress point.
